Wow, ok, so this is a tough one to review! I enjoyed it, I related to it, this hit a certain spot in my feels where coming-of-age kind of stuff is kept. This isn't a book for everyone, but the people that it's for will really dig it!
What do I mean by not for everyone? This book is a super slow burn; if you're more a fan of plot-driven stories, this might not be your jam. But if you're like me and enjoy a good character deep-dive, this is your book! Not much happens (it's kinda slice-of-life in that sense), but to me, it felt like so much was going on! We peek into the lives of a couple of school boys, both misfits, thought to be weird by their classmates, and we see the ways they deal with their otherness. There are two worlds in this story, and we never really find out which is the "true" world. The ending is purposely left vague, which works perfectly in this story. I don't know, I can't tell you why this story was so good, it just was. If you've ever been "other", especially as a child, you'll get what I mean. This story was a nice break for my brain - it's dreamy, it's liminal, it spoke to a part of me I still commune with. I'll read this again, as needed (if you're a re-reader, you know what I mean), and I'll recommend it to my fellow Others wholeheartedly.
