Building into a really impressive series. Jackson Lamb and the Slough House Secret Service misfits are a well crafted group, the dialogue is razor sharp and the humour well placed. In true spy style the group are required to return the worms to a recently opened can in this spy tale about a old program gone wrong. The sort of novel that makes you want to read the next one (& go back and read the earlier ones if you haven't!). Recommended.
A slow burn introduction to a an enticing tale. Echoes of Smiley's world with a Gaimanesque twist.
Mick Herron has taken an idea and produced four excellent novels from it.
Having read the one novel, I had no choice but to part with my cash and purchase the other three and to sit and devour them in as few sittings as I could manage.
Although the books probably fall under the thriller genre, the can be read and enjoyed by any reader who enjoys a well written story.
I would thoroughly recommend Mick Herron to anyone who has not yet tried him.
Gripping and a real, page turner. Will definitely look for this author in future.
My first Mick Herron book. Took the book because of others reviews and must say, really enjoyed it.
The characters in Slough House take some sorting out along with their boss Jackson Lamb. This is the third book in the Jackson Lamb series.
Slough House a backwater in the Intelligence Service of those banished operatives who have fouled the powers within the Service.
The book is fast pace with plenty of action that carries you along in an implausible but thoroughly enjoyable ride.
A great "airport book " that doesn't tax the intellect too much.
The fourth in this excellent series is well up to form and BDO twins the high standard set by Mr Herron in his previous books.
The Slow Horses are as damaged and bizarre as ever as they put aside their infighting to help solve the problems faced by River Cartwright's ex-spook grandfather.
Well written, understated and droll this is a treat to be savoured and enjoyed.
