Princess Fuzzypants here:
Whew! Let me catch my breath. It is not often that a story grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. This very scary and enthralling story did that and more.
Our hero is an investigator who is hired by a grieving father to find his son who has disappeared while searching for a lost community in a very isolated and strange place. The police have turned up nothing and so he must travel to Marshwood to learn what happened. Things are not as they seem. Even he says the village seems like it was transported from The Wicker Man. He does not know precisely how right he is until it is almost too late.
There is a horrific secret that the residents share as they lure their victims to their fates. What they have planned is terrible and he is not alone in his plight. There are some bone chilling moments that sweeps the reader along with the characters. The action never lets up from the time of the reveal to the end of the story. It is a frightening ride that the reader does not want to leave. Like many good stories, this one does not have a neat ending although the ending is quite "neat" in the colloquial sense.
I give this a shivery five purrs and two paws up.
Where the blood runs deep by Edmund Glasby is a mystery and thriller and general fiction (adult) read.
Small community. Big secrets.
When police fail to solve the disappearance of a young man, Private Investigator Patrick Haskell is called to investigate.
An absolutely fantastic read with brilliant characters. I loved the story. Full of twists and plots. And what a twist. Didn't expect that. 5*. Highly recommended. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley.
