Punchy thriller that will add a zing to your TBR!

Stepping outside the box of general thrillers, this fast paced novel draws you in with building suspence and intrigue and spits you out the other end, while your head spins from the twists and turns.

Certainly a book for those seeking a light bite of fiction and a race through it's pages.

Enjoyable beach-read type of thriller. Some nice ideas, even if some of the characterisation is a weak, but still enjoyable enough to pass the time.

Although well plotted this just wasn't the book for me

LIES is a well written debut psychological thriller by T.M. Logan. This one is sure to please and will have you flipping the pages.

WHAT IF YOUR WHOLE LIFE WAS BASED ON LIES?

When Joe Lynch while driving his son, William home stumbles across his wife driving into a hotel car park while she's supposed to be at work, he's intrigued enough to follow her in.

Joe Lynch is a high school teacher happily married to wife, Mel with son, William. But Joe is so naive…I wanted him to wake up and smell the roses!

When Joe witnesses his wife in an angry dispute with Ben, the husband of Mel’s best friend, Beth, he knows he must step in.

But the conflict between the two men turns violent, and Ben is knocked unconscious, Joe's young son has an asthma attack and Joe must leave the scene in order to get help.

When Joe returns to the scene to make sure Ben is OK, Joe is horrified to find that Ben and his car have disappeared.

And then Joe’s world falls apart! He starts to receive emails and text messages from Ben! Ben says he's going to take everything away from Joe ... his wife, his house, his son, his job!

Ben’s wife reports to the authorities that Ben is missing…and Joe becomes the suspect!

Joe must discover the truth to prove his innocence.

This is a well-written debut psychological thriller with well-developed characters, and an excellent plot. The first-person perspective worked really well through Joe’s POV. Fast-paced with lots of twists, turns and a major final twist that I didn’t see coming.

Many thanks to T.M. Logan, Bonnier Zaffre, Twenty7 Books and Netgalley for the ARC.

Bonnier Books Ltd and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Lies. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

When William spots his Mummy's car pulling into the car park of a Premier Inn, he asks his Daddy if they can surprise her. But what is his wife doing at a motel in the middle of the day? Joe Lynch spots his wife in a heated discussion with her best friend's husband, Ben Delaney, but both Ben and his wife deny the meeting. When a heat of the moment decision turns into a heap of trouble for Joe, will he be able to find out the truth in time to safeguard his future?

I had decided, early on, that Lies was not going to be as straightforward as it seemed. This helped me figure out some of the outcome of the story, but gave me my share of surprises as well. Joe was my favorite character, as he endures his fate as his life as he knew it changes. Lies is a fast paced thriller worthy of a read by those who are fans of the genre. I look forward to reading more by author T.M. Logan in the future.

It's the classic, one seemingly innocuous decision which starts a chain of unstoppable events likely to unravel your entire life. Joe spots his wife's car pulling into a hotel car park when she should be at work and in the moment he decides to pop & say hello, everything is changed forever.

A man goes missing. Joe's life starts to fall apart as he struggles to keep his marriage, career and reputation in tact, when everything is stacked against him.

When your whole life is based on lies...

Technology and social media play a huge part in the plot which adds an extra element of fear as we see how easily lies can be manipulated to appear as truth. Is anything real? Who can he trust?

You really feel for Average Joe and although he's not the most dynamic leading man, I enjoyed his perspective. I totally thought I had it all figured out around halfway into the book and I couldn't have been more wrong.

I won't lie, this is a thrilling, twisty read with a satisfying ending that you'll race to get to. Four cwtches. Get your copy here.

I love, love, LOVED this book. It's one of those 'just one more chapter' kind of books that you just can't put down. I whizzed through it like a tornado, not knowing what was the truth and what were lies and boy are there a lot of lies in this book, as you would expect from the title.

Joe thinks he has the perfect marriage, he is married to Mel and they have an inquisitive little boy, William. One day Joe is driving William home when William spots 'mummy's car', Joe humours him at first then realises the car isn't just the same make and model as Mel's it IS Mel's car. What is she doing going into a hotel car park when she is supposed to be playing tennis? Joe follows her into the hotel and sees her arguing with Ben, a friend of the family. Joe goes back to the car park with William and confronts Ben but as the pair square up to each other Joe pushes Ben and he falls. As Joe bends down to see to Ben, William gets out of the car with an asthma attack and there's no inhaler in sight. Joe's choice: check Ben is ok or save his son's life - no brainer, so Joe heads for home and returns later to find that Ben has gone so he must be ok, right? WRONG!

A few days later Ben's wife reports him missing and when she also uncovers a secret mobile phone containing naked pictures of Joe's wife Mel, the police focus all their attention on Joe. There may be no body but there's also no sign of Ben and as the evidence mounts up, it's only a matter of time before Joe is arrested for Ben's murder. Joe believes that Ben is still alive as he is posting on social media so Joe heads up to Sunderland, Ben's home town, to get proof of life and clear his name. I always enjoy seeing places near where I live in print, so it was a nice surprise to see Sunderland mentioned. Joe has no idea what he is up against or how much danger he is in...can he uncover the truth before it's too late?

Phew, what a scorching read; I almost got third degree burns I was flipping the pages so fast. I thought Joe was a bit of a weak house-husband at first, but when his family life is threatened he really steps up to the mark. He is so trusting that he believes everything he is told and wouldn't be able to spot a lie if it had a label attached to it. That was what was so great about the book: trying to work out who was lying and who was playing who. A couple of times I asked myself, 'is nobody telling the truth in this book?', then answered myself, 'er, the book's called LIES'.

Lies is a VERY impressive debut; I actually had to double check it was a debut novel. It's so addictive you really won't be able to put it down and it will have your brain in such a tizz that you won't be able to tell truth from lies, so don't even try to guess the ending!

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

This was a gripping, psychological thriller that was hard to put down. It follows Joe, high school teacher and main caregiver of his son, William, as his life disintegrates at an alarming rate. After watching his wife, Mel, in an argument with Ben, the husband of Mel's best friend, Beth, Joe makes the fateful decision to confront Ben. What follows is fast-paced and with twists and turns all over the place. The author does a great job of integrating the dangers of social media into the plot. I was surprised to learn this is T.M. Logan's first book. Wow! I thought it was very well written and the plot was excellent. Joe was authentic and likeable and his first-person perspective worked really well. While I had my suspicions about one of the characters from early on, I didn't see the ending coming at all. I loved it! Although this required a little suspension of disbelief at times, I was so busy turning the pages desperate to discover the next bit that I wasn't unduly bothered by it.
I look forward to seeing what this author has in store next.

After collecting his son William from school Joe was driving home when they were stopped at a red light.
William spotted his mums car told his dad who thought he was mixed up but when he checked it was Mel's car it was going into an underground car park for Premier Inn hotel guests. Joe decides to surprise her and detours back to hotel car park.
William is excited to show his mum his school certificate he presses the lift button, when they reach the floor there's no sign of Mel then through a gap Joe sees her with her back to him and she's with Ben Delaney one of Mel's closest friends husband. Ben seems angry he's thrusting his hands and pointing Mel seems upset not wanting William to see this Joe takes him back to the car. While waiting for Mel to return to her car he spots her gets out his car telling William to stay where he is but he's too late Mel had already driven away.
Joe sees Ben getting out of lift Joe speaks to him he gets angry clutches at Joes shirt and thrusts him against his car he went to do it again that was when Joe pushed him away Ben then fell over his case slipped and banged his head hard on the ground Joe wasn't sure if he was breathing then he heard a sob William had gotten out of the car seen everything he was now having an asthma attack Joe rushed to car to get inhaler there was none so they rush home to get spare one leaving Ben. Once William used inhaler and was back to normal Joe returned to hotel to see if Ben was ok only thing is he's gone no sign of him or his car.
Great storyline lots of twists and turns loved it a definite must read.

I enjoy books that are set in places I recognise so from the get go this was a book I already felt would be a good one. However I didn't realise how good it would turn out to be! I was swept away with the angst and dilemmas that raced poor Joe but the writing was so good that it never became too obvious or trite. What a grea WTF moment at the end - something I didn't see coming. Great plotting and great writing. I'll be looking out for more from this talented author

Lies by T.M. Logan is a twisted psychological thriller about deception. At one point in the book, a character described the feeling that you’d get if one day you discovered a trapdoor under your carpet in the living room. That is the feeling I had when reading this book. The levels of deception were insane.

Joe Lynch saw something that he wasn’t supposed to. His intervention led to things spiraling out of control. Soon, the stalking and framing started. Someone hacked his facebook account. Someone else is posting from another account to taunt Joe. Then he is seeing messages on his phone and laptop that nobody else sees. Someone seems to be out to get Joe and they were doing a pretty convincing job to make him look like the bad guy.

Joe’s life was disintegrating pretty fast that I was convinced that there was no way out. The lies kept piling up. There were so many secrets that it was hard to guess the truth. Due to all the lies, I didn’t like most of the characters except Joe and his son. Joe seemed like a regular guy just caught up in a bad situation. Although some of his actions were really frustrating making him appear weak and naïve.

Lies by T.M Logan is a book that I think fans of psychological thrillers will enjoy. It had mystery and tension to the last page. I felt like some parts were slow although this could have been because I was so tense and curious about how it would all end. I just needed to find out the truth… and fast! I loved the ending and couldn’t have predicted it. Deception being a main theme, I kept trying to guess the truth but couldn’t do it until the reveal. The story being told from Joe’s perspective made me feel like I was going through the nightmare with him. I made discoveries at the same time that he did and we were both shocked by the twist at the end.

This is the third book that I have read recently about cyber stalking. It made me think about the impact of sharing our personal lives online and how easily this could be used against us.

I was torn between giving this a big solid 4 stars and the 2.5 stars I'm actually giving it ...

Overall - I thought this book was ok +.

First 50% had me wondering what the heck is going on. Joe; father, husband, school teacher is driving his son William home on a Thursday night when they spot his wife's car ... he decides to follow her and ends up in a situation involving another man (Ben). Emotions are high, things are said and it becomes a little physical ... Joe is forced to leave and when he goes back to make sure Ben is ok ... Ben is gone.

The real kicker to Joe though is that when he asks his wife (Mel) what she was doing meeting with Ben, she denies having been there. Hence the title "Lies".

What follows is a case of Joe being stalked by Ben as Ben uses Facebook to undermine Joe - casting suspicion on where Joe was, if Joe was involved in Ben's disappearance, ultimately involving the police. All of that felt a lot like an episode of "Luther" - only Joe isn't John Luther and he is not only confused as to why things are happening, but seems to stumble along as he tries to solve the mystery of "where Ben in hiding".

The reason I didn't rate this higher is simply because at one point the story turns. I get unreliable characters, but it felt like all of a sudden two of the characters just become completely different people. It was almost as though there was a story within a story and they just didn't connect for me.

I will say that I found this book reminiscent to In a Dark, Dark Wood]; fast paced, high tension, high suspense, with an ending (in my opinion) that just kind of happened to wrap things up. It also felt like it was a reminder to people to be careful as to how you use social media (Facebook, twitter, Instagram) since that's how Joe was being tormented and set-up.

Would I recommend this to friends - sure. A fast paced thriller that just veered a little off for me in the end.
