EXCERPT: My wedding dress burned easily.
I stood in the field behind the farmhouse on that summer afternoon, the afternoon of my wedding day, with my Mum, my Gran, and my best friend Sharon. It was almost two o'clock.
My wedding invitations stated that at two the reception would begin. I should have been sitting at the top table with my gorgeous new husband Jamie, listening to my Dad make the speech he'd stressed over for the past few weeks. Instead I was peering into an old oil drum, and watching with morbid curiosity as the satin and lace of my dress puckered and curled, appearing for a moment like caramel, before crinkling, singeing, and then igniting with a whoomph.
ABOUT 'MISS WRONG AND MY RIGHT': Natalie Love has worked hard to have it all. She runs a successful London theatre that's about to host one of Hollywood's leading stars, Ryan Harrison. She’s pretty sure she’s found her man in yoga boyfriend Benjamin, despite his annoying habit of saying Namaste! every time he speaks. And her eccentric, glamorous Hungarian Gran is always on hand to offer sage advice and steaming bowls of goulash.
Life in the bright lights of London has always been Natalie's escape from her chaotic country family in rural Devon and Jamie, the childhood sweetheart she left at the altar fifteen years ago. Until he turns up at her theatre door...
Jamie is in town producing a West End show and with rivalry suddenly clouding old feelings, this isn’t quite the reunion Natalie was expecting.
Will Benjamin prove to be Natalie’s perfect match? With Ryan turning her head, Natalie is more confused than ever. And what about Jamie – could he be her second chance at first love?
MY THOUGHTS: A mostly perfectly delightful romp with some unexpected lessons involving friendship, loyalty and alcoholism.
While I didn't quite laugh out loud, there were definitely a few snorts of mirth. This is a light and fluffy rom-com that could have stood a little fine tuning. At one point Natalie acts as a doormat to her current boyfriend and I was so relieved when she grew a backbone. The cat fight was a huge turn off for me, and the scene where the reality show camera crew follows their star into the toilet cubicle was just a step too far - ICK! And how did the cameraman, soundman and star all fit in there anyway?
Natalie's gran, Anoushka, is a scene stealer. She is delightful, street savvy, and not beyond being more than a little manipulative in using her age to get her own way. There are a lot of funny and/or touching moments, and I enjoyed the way Robert Bryndza wrote the story so that we were never really sure until right at the end who Natalie would end up with.
An entertaining and fun read that left me smiling.

My bad, BUT... finally i have gotten around to reading this.
I fancied something different and lighter than the usual books I read. This fitted just what I wanted.
Fun, fun, fun some great comedy within this book. A story you get lost in, some great laugh out moments, this was just the tonic I needed to put a smile back on my face.
light hearted and quirky a fun read.
First of all, I must ask how I have missed not reading this author before?! This book was so entertaining and fun to read from the beginning when we first meet Natalie after she has left Jamie, literally at the altar to the end when fifteen years later, we get to see Jamie come back into her life and wonder if he really is her Mr. Right or if she should keep running. Perhaps her soul mate is her yoga boyfriend, Benjamin, who says “Namaste!” in every sentence and during sex or Hollywood heartthrob, Ryan Harrison, who Natalie has hired to perform in her theater’s production of Macbeth.
This book is full of interesting characters, some more likable than others, of course, but all with personalities that draw the reader in further to the story. Natalie’s Hungarian grandmother was a hoot, and I will never think of bunions again without thinking about Sophia Loren’s toe. Natalie’s best friend Sharon and her teenage-like crush on Ryan and the calendar she has still makes me giggle.
Benjamin and Tuppence were less than likable and gave me near migraines with the intense eye rolling their presence caused but I found myself curious as to what they would do next and what would happen as a result.
I really liked both Ryan and Jamie and thought they were down to earth characters who were decent people. I enjoyed meeting the rest of Natalie’s family and her theater mates as well.
My Final Verdict: This book delivers on every angle, comedy, drama, heartbreak filled with characters and situations any reader can relate to and enjoy. Give this one a look and you will be wondering, like me, what took you so long to find this author. I am looking forward to jumping into his other books.
I really enjoyed this book. I haven’t read anything by this author before but I am glad I gave him a go. The book was a great read and one I would recommend.
My favourite character was Natalie’s gran I laughed at her story lines the most. From the first page the story reels you in and keeps you hooked. It was easy to read in a light kind of way but I got engrossed and didn’t want to put it down. I like it when a book draws you in and from the moment we join Natalie setting fire to her wedding dress there is no other option but to settle down and read it until the end.
I related to Natalie on a personal level and I liked all the characters as they are all likeable and relatable to someone. The story flowed well and didn’t require too much concentration to follow despite the chapters being split between the characters. It was easy to follow and you could just enjoy the story.
I was pleasantly surprised at the story and plot and how much I enjoyed it without it being predictable and how much I laughed at parts too. Even though it was my first book I have read by Robert I can definitely say it won’t be my last.
I was definitely in the mood for some romantic comedy when I picked this eBook up and I’m glad to say it ticked all the boxes rather nicely.
An unexpected introduction to Natalie and her family had me slightly gobsmacked in the most amusing kind of way. Fast forward 15 years and Natalie seemed to have everything figured out until a blast from the past came along and made her reevaluate her life. Apparently things weren’t as awesome as they looked from the outside.
Natalie was a lovely character and I quickly found myself feeling protective of her, especially where her relationship with Benjamin was concerned. There was always a side of humour though so even when something was going dramatically wrong on the page, I couldn’t help but giggle.
Natalie’s Gran was a standout character for me, I absolutely loved her! She’s one of those characters who you really wish you could meet in real life, utterly awesome.
Favourite Moments
* Pepper spray and yoghurt
* Hungry pigeons
* Bodyguard Gran
* Trifle with a twist
* A bathroom brawl
Apart from one tearful scene, I pretty much read the rest of this book with a smile on my face because it was such a fun storyline. I definitely recommend it.
such a different read to Robert's previous books. great writing
Awesome story. Can’t wait to read more from this author!!!
I finished this book in one sitting with tears of laughter rolling down my face at times . This is one hilarious book that I absolutely loved . Highly recommend .
Having read the thrillers by this author I was surprised st this book
Great characters good fun, not scary at all!
I gave this a 4/5 stars or 8/10.
It was a quirky comedy romance, with lots of silly happenings between all the characters.
Natalie's life looked like it was all planned out, but as she jilts her fiancé at the altar. Life takes a sudden turn that she hadn't quite planned. Stuck in another relationship that doesn't seem to be going far again, her life could be all set to change yet again.
Well written this story had lots going for it and was great escapism, at a time when I most definitely needed it. I read this over Christmas last year and it was just the ticket. Grab a copy and let it take you away from your day to day life.
A funny, light hearted story. Made me laugh in a few places. Likeable characters, romance, and an amazing old lady. Excellent read.
Natalie Love is the artistic director of an up and coming theatre that is about to have its big moment - a Hollywood star is going to be the lead of their latest production - that Scottish play, Macbeth. This is her moment - tickets sales are going through the roof and success is guaranteed or is it?
Enter stage left, her childhood sweetheart (and almost husband) Jamie, who since her desertion of him at the altar, has also pursued theatre management and is about to open a pop-up theatre across the road featuring a very stunning and exotic burlesque performer.
This book was absolutely fabulous - I laughed and groaned my way through every page. I adored Natalie and cheered on every moment of her adventures. Her grandmother is delicious and suitably wicked. Her parents are quite eccentric in their own right and her sister brings her own version of weird to the party. Her best friend, Sharon, is someone you absolutely want in your life. And then there is everyone else from the revoltingly wrong yoga guru boyfriend who is definitely no Jamie to Jamie's publicist who wants Natalie to pay for a wrong he believes she had done.
Absolutely a book to grab for a good time - you won't be sorry because every word is a delight. Even when it is all going wrong, and wrong it goes, you can't bear to put the story down. I am sorry that I took so long to get to this book among my collection to read because it was one of those gems that you love stumbling across. I will certainly be looking for further books by Robert Bryndza - highly entertaining author.
Pretty cute! I am going with 3.5 to 4. But, I liked the fluff and I needed something light and that would make me laugh. So...rounded up!! My first read by this author. I will be looking for more. Rob seems like an author I would enjoy time and time again.
"My wedding dress burned easily. I stood in the field behind the farmhouse on that summer afternoon, the afternoon of my wedding day, with my Mum, my Gran, and my best friend Sharon. It was almost two o'clock."
That is how the book begins. With what looks like a wedding ceremony. Natalie is going to marry her love Jamie. Or is she?
It's an entertaining little tale of romance and second chances. Because it is set, partly, in the theatre, I was interested when I saw this title on NetGalley. I have been in and out of theatres for years and know many people still involved in one way or another in community theatre...which can be pretty fun! With lots of drama and crazy! I knew I could relate to the characters and setting of this story. And I did. The "players" are introduced. We have some very funny movie /TV references as chapter headings: Sophie Loren's Toe, Snakes on a Plane, What's My Line?
I have to say I loved the ending. I just did. But I can't tell you about it. So, go grab it for yourself. Anticipate lots of smiles and a great escape.
I want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me an ARC to review. I hate that I didn't get to this one sooner. But, I picked it up at just the right time....needing something witty, light and funny in between some darker reads from the last month or two. Good news is that I see this is offered on kindle right now for $2.99 and I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed the cast of characters, esp Gran! Thanks Rob for a great read!
First off, let me just state that I was unfamiliar with Robert Bryndza and his books until I came across Miss Wrong and Mr Right on Netgalley and its premise drew me in. I quickly discovered that Robert is a bestselling author of crime novels, predominantly the DCI Erika Foster series (The Girl in the Ice, The Night Stalker and Dark Water). Given that I’m a fan of crime thrillers I’ll surely be checking these out, but in the meantime, note that Robert writes rom-com too, and it is AWESOME.
Natalie Love dumps her fiancé at the altar. Not only that, but she sets fire to her wedding dress too (following some sage advice from her beloved Gran). Now, years later, Natalie has left her small hometown, and is living a successful life in London, complete with a boyfriend who teaches yoga, and a job doing what she loves – running a theatre. Plus, there’s Natalie’s eccentric gran, who is glamorous, Hungarian and downright hilarious, always nearby to give any agony aunt a run for her money. Sometimes.
Natalie’s hard work at the theatre pays off when Hollywood heart-throb Ryan Harrison is booked to play Macbeth in a production she’s running. When it comes to her personal life, however, Natalie’s takes a hit when none other than Jamie – the man she ditched at the altar all those years ago – shows up. Jamie is working nearby promoting a new West End show. And, it seems, dating burlesque star Tuppence Halfpenny, the UK’s answer to Dita.
Being Jamie’s business rival isn’t easy – not when the past has showed up so abruptly in front of her face. And when Ryan Harrison turns out to be much more than just a pretty Hollywood face, Natalie’s in a bit of trouble…
Miss Wrong and Mr Right is an absolutely fantastic read. Seriously, this book is all kinds of brilliant. Don’t get me wrong, I actively seek out funny books, but it’s rare that a novel has me genuinely laughing out loud. This one, however? Oh, it did. I found myself chuckling on numerous occasions, the biggest culprit for my outbursts being Gran. Natalie’s wonderfully eccentric gran provides so much humour, as well as warmth, that I couldn’t help but adore her.
Every character in this book is wonderfully written and fun (well, besides Benji, but read it and you’ll see why). And not only was this book brilliantly funny, it was also rather heartwarming and genuine. Oh, and with a bit of revenge thrown in for good measure.
By the time I reached the end of this novel, I didn’t want it to finish. I could have spent so much more time with Natalie and her outrageous group of friends and family. I sincerely hope that Robert Bryndza writes more romantic comedies, because Miss Wrong and Mr Right is so far one of the best books of the year.
Bryndza structured this romantic comedy much like his thrillers, in that we don't know who Natalie should/will end up with until the last pages. I loved the protagonist -- she balls things up for her career, she second-guesses her actions with men, she has a big heart yet stoops to corporate espionage, she can't see the guys clearly for their appendages... (that's a poorly constructed 'can't see the forest for the trees' metaphor, sorry). She's a great character and I'd love to read more books with her as the heroine.
What I also loved what how Bryndza manages to write so well in two very different genres - his thriller series is fantastic and this romcom is equally wonderful. I could tell this was the same author. Despite a similar 'voice' to the writing, Bryndza goes for laughs here instead of fear. It's very successfully achieved.
The publisher provided me with an ARC via NetGalley.
I was already a fan of Bryndza for his Erika Foster series, so I was curious about this foray into a different genre. I was pleasantly surprised by how charming and humorous this was, such a difference to his other books, which shows how talented this author is. Always happy to read anything he writes!
This is an exuberant happy romance with humor and heart. While Natalie has her moments (and sometimes I thought it was obvious she was written by a man) she makes a good heroine. Being happy with yourself and your choices is a sign of maturity and that's what I liked about this novel- you watched Natalie grow up even as she's tempted by Jamie and Ryan. I had not read Bryndza before so thanks to Netgalley for the ARC=- I'll definitely look for him again.
Light and funny read, this book delivers exactly what it promises. Miss Wrong and Mr Right is a fluffy, feel-good rom-com that hits just the spot when you need to wind down after a long day. Personally, I was looking exactly for something like this: after a few "tougher" reads, I felt the need to just dive deep into something light-hearted to lift my spirits. And just like a cup of hot chocolate, this book did exactly that.
As far as the plot goes, it's a pretty standard rom-com, with a likable main character and several men hovering around her. Needless to say, I was pretty sure who "Mr Right" was only a few pages into the book (and could probably have guessed it from the blurb), so it wasn't much of a big reveal... but the journey there was fun enough, so I'm not complaining!
As a main character, Natalie was quite difficult for me to connect with, mostly because she seemed extremely naive for most of the book (hardly something I can believe, given the premises...) and just dives into trouble head-on in the rest. I had to get very far along in the story to warm up to her, and I just felt like that was a bit too late. By the end, however, I was rooting for her completely, and I did like her character growth, even if it did happen a tad too suddenly for my taste. Her grandmother was definitely my favourite character: witty and funny, she was the best thing in this book and is very likely to be one of the few things I'll remember about it far into the future. The men were your very stereotypical rom-com male characters, but let's face it, that's part of the reason why we read books like this, so again, no complaints on this!
If you're looking for some fun and romance, coupled with a theatrical atmosphere, then this is the right book for you!
Mr Bryndza is better known for his crime fiction, so this was a nice diversion of his normal genre.
I laughed from the beginning to the end, and really enjoyed this gem of a book.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good read!
Absolutely brilliant book!
Made me smile, laugh out loud & I have to say Hungarian Nan was hilarious.
A perfect read when you want something light & easy to read.
I can hear others think it's maybe a little too predictable at times..but that only reinforces the believability. Life isn't always shock horrors is it?!
I look forward to the next instalment.
