I loved the opening line -"My wedding dress burned easily." It grabbed my attention straight away, but unfortunately lost it a little by the end of chapter 2, mostly because of the tense switches (sometimes within the same sentence) and a couple of other little things which an editor should have picked up. Once I noticed them, I found I was looking for them, rather than concentrating on the story.
However, that said, by the end of chapter 3, the story had drawn me in enough to forget the little niggles of earlier, I got over my initial 'meh' and began to enjoy it. Really enjoy it. Unexpectedly funny, I caught myself sniggering into my tablet (the thing with the pigeons was inspired!) and eagerly looking forward to discovering what else the author had up his sleeve.
I did think Jamie was a bit of a prat, though, and maybe what she did to him all those years ago was justified...
Gran - what can I say about her! She was my favourite character. I want a gran like this. Heck, she's going to be my role model when I get to her age. Better start practising wearing ridiculously high heels then!
Miss Wrong and Mr Right
A laugh out loud, funny and endearing book! Fast paced, chaotic and charming, this book just won't fail to entertain you!
This is very different to Robert's other books that I've read but every bit as enjoyable and soooo entertaining!! His characters become real, believable and so funny. 4*
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book, with thanks to Netgalley and the publisher.
I loved this book! It's witty, funny, cute, sweet, dramatic. An overall good read. I recommend it for a chic lit lover.
This book was brilliant, I absolutely loved the characters & found myself laughing out loud on several occasions. I would definitely read more from this author
Funny funny love everything about this writer and all he writes
I absolutely loved this book, fabulous characters especially ' Gran '! I love going to the theatre but can't often go to the theatre in London , this book took me there instantly, it was glorious! Another complete hit as far as I'm concerned, and Robert is fast becoming one of my " must read " authors.
I always enjoy Robert Bryndza's books, whether they are the Coco Pinchard romantic comedies or the DCI Erika Foster crime thrillers. His writing is good and it's easy to imagine the characters and the places.
This time the main character is Natalie Love who realised on her wedding day she was too young at the age of nineteen to get married and left her fiancé Jamie standing at the altar. Encouraged by her Hungarian grandmother Anouska (who is quite a character), she burns her wedding dress. When Jamie arrives at the house seeking an explanation he gives her an ultimatum – marriage or nothing. Natalie is adamant that she is too young to be married so Jamie leaves saying she won't see him again. Her gran says she was planning to go to London to stay with a friend and suggests Natalie go too so she and her friend Sharon leave for London that evening …. and that is just the introduction.
Fast forward fifteen years later and Natalie has a successful career managing a theatre, a yoga instructor boyfriend (who doesn't give the impression of being overly committed to the relationship), and her friend Sharon is now happily settled with Fred and their children.
The theatre company are about to put on a production with a young American actor in the lead role. Natalie has to deal with egos and big personalities and try to keep everyone happy however at the same time they learn a rival theatre is opening across the road and Natalie is shocked to find her ex-fiancé Jamie very much involved with the rival company. Her grandmother has also returned to the UK unexpectedly and has nowhere to go so is staying with Natalie in her tiny flat.
Poor Natalie has to try and juggle her job, her love-life, keep her family back in Devon happy (they have never met her boyfriend), and contend with the presence of her grandmother Anouska (who is a wonderful character). Her grandmother is not backwards in coming forwards and is not averse to manipulating situations to 'help' Natalie.
Some of the situations are just pure comedy and I laughed out loud quite a few times but there are also some quite touching scenes.
Robert paints a vivid scene with his writing. My favourite character has to be the larger then life grandmother – she should get a book of her own.
I have been reading a lot of (excellent) crime thrillers recently and this funny, entertaining romantic comedy was just the change I needed over the Christmas holiday period.
A funny and fun quick read with the right amount of romance and cringe-worthy moments. I think this would make such a fun, quirky film in the vein of Bridget Jones complete with the embarrassing, well meaning family and fun best friend.
Witty, Snappy, Snarky, fun, fast, engaging read. I love the humor and became a fan!
