When I first saw the cover and title of this book I was intrigued. I wondered what on earth I would find between the pages.
Wow! A debut writer with a book that had me laughing yet cringing too.
The main character is fantastic we learn so much about her. It really is such a lovely story of why this lady ” Says it how it is” . She comes over as obnoxious but i recommend everyone read this heartwarming story which I guarantee you will love.

Wow this will be one of my reads of 2017! Stunningly written with such depth and skill that I couldn't put it down as I just had to see how the story unfolded with every biscuit crumb dropped by each chapter. The characters within the story are flawed, and rough around the edges and utterly utterly fantastic; Eleanor is one of my all time favourite book characters now, hilarious and honest and yet so vulnerable, I love her! This book explores some deep subjects, including family, the care system, loneliness and the worst kind of tragedy, and yet it remains such an upbeat and ultimately life-affirming book.
If there's one book you have to read then it is this one.

Unusual and engaging story of misfit Eleanor and her struggles to keep her life on an even keel working with people who dislike her and coping with weekly phone calls from her abusive mother. A chance encounter helps her to start communicating better with the people around her and come out of her shell. Stretched the bounds of credibility in parts but the ending brought it all together well. So good to read something out of the ordinary!

I really enjoyed reading about Eleanor, who was written so quirkily but realistically that I was totally drawn in to her story. The cast of characters is small but poignant, and I really felt like I was transported on this journey of self discovery and acceptance. I believe this may be the first read of mine from this author but I'm excited to add her to my must watch list. Abuse of any kind is a delicate subject matter, but I was completely impressed by how tenderly the story played out. Wonderful book.

Eleanor Oliphant lives a structured and isolated life, never deviating from her routine and never interacting with other people more than is absolutely necessary.
Despite her blunt, no-nonsense attitude and her desire to be left alone, Eleanor is kind and funny - dry and usually unwittingly so - and I warmed to her after the first few pages. Reading how Eleanor truly starts to come into herself is both heart-breaking and heart-warming, and there were times when I would laugh and cry within the space of a few sentences. This is a book that breaks your faith in humanity and sets about building it back up, restoring a sense of balance and hope that Eleanor has been missing all her life.
If you're a fan of Emma Healey and Matt Haig, this book is for you.

A great read.
A memorable look at how we are formed by our social interactions, how the past can haunt us and how loneliness is just as debilitating as a physical malady.
I would definitely recommend this book to colleagues and friends.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine is one of my favourite books so far this year. It's a wonderful read: quirky, funny, sometimes a bit sad but hopeful – a complete delight.
Eleanor is almost 30, lives alone and has a very ordered life. She goes to work in an office, wears the same clothes, has the same lunchtime routine every day and buys two bottles of vodka every weekend. She doesn't socialise with colleagues and doesn't engage with anyone. She is very direct and says what she wants to say without irony. Once a week she talks with her mother who dispenses advice (and criticism). In fact the mother comes across as a horrendous character.
Eleanor narrates her story in a very matter-of-fact manner. There is no hint of self-pity. As the story progresses you sense that her upbringing wasn't exactly normal but she got a university degree and a job.
Eleanor is completely fine in her self-contained life until she finds the love of her life and decides to embark on a makeover and engage (just slightly) with the modern world. This makes for some very funny misunderstandings and yet I felt sadness at her predicament.
Eleanor is totally alone although she doesn't see herself as lonely. She considers herself completely fine but she really lacks the ability to engage with other people and she takes everything very literally. I found it quite sad they way her colleagues talked about her.
Things start to change for Eleanor when an old man collapses in the street. Raymond from work just happened to be walking alongside Eleanor, making conversation while Eleanor was desperately trying to avoid any interaction. Raymond ran over to the man and got a reluctant Eleanor to help too.
Raymond is a warm, friendly, thoughtful character. Somehow Eleanor finds herself becoming less self contained. It's a very gradual process but she starts to blossom (not sure if that's the right word!) It's not all plain sailing and there are setbacks. It's not a romance in the traditional sense. It's more about an unlikely friendship and Eleanor's journey.
Although Eleanor comes across as slightly odd, I found her very likeable. The story is well written and is funny and sad in equal measure. I found it easy to picture the characters and the scenarios. It's a very enjoyable, entertaining story. I definitely recommend it.

Cannot say enough good things about this novel. I've been to hear Gail read and she's just as lovely as I thought she'd be. She deserves every ounce of her acclaim as Eleanor is hands-down my favourite character of the year. I enjoyed every single awkward encounter and loved her alternative world view and 'mistakes' as she tries hard to navigate a largely incomprehensible world. I was absolutely rooting for her fabulously depicted relationship with the scruffy awkward and resolutely non-romantic-hero Raymond. Gail revealed that the book has been optioned and I can't wait to see how they bring Eleanor to life. I've already bought this for five people and keep tweeting about it as I think that it deserves to become as famous as Bridget Jones as almost an anti- Bridget. If I could give this ten stars I would. Love, love, loved it!

An extraordinary debut with a memorable character and strong narrative voice that will warm the hearts of many a reader. The story here is most superb and moving and is a treat for anyone to read. Honeyman has crafted a character in Eleanor who is a mix of Hyacinth Bucket and Sheldon Cooper. Many will enjoy reading of Eleanor's exploits as she navigates a normal world she is unable to comprehend, gaining new experiences and friends, and unravelling the dark truth about the scar on her face. This is a tale of kindness and friendship, and is just the tonic needed in this day and age.

Many thanks to the publisher for giving me the opportunity of reading this book via NetGalley.
I adored the book, loved the characters and was totally absorbed in the story of Eleanor Oliphant. I would highly recommend it particularly to Book Club members.

Ebook kindly received from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I think that Eleanor Oliphant is going to be a marmite book, you'll either really love it or you really won't and unfortunately I really didn't.
To start with the book really engaged me and I found myself laughing out loud at some bits but the book moved along very slowly as the author goes into all the mundane minute details, which I know is the point as this is how Eleanor is but this drove me mad and I was constantly waiting for just anything to happen.
Once I got to just over half way, I found myself skim reading and despite only reading little parts, I still followed what was happening.
I did skim to the end as I was intrigued to see what happened and to have a few questions answered. However even though it did answer my questions, I felt it, like the rest of the book, lacked sparkle.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine is a book that took me completely by surprise. I had heard great things about it so when I had the opportunity to review the book I jumped at the chance. All I knew about the storyline was what I had read in the synopsis.
The book sounded like a light-hearted adult contemporary with a few twists and turns. I was most definitely not expecting the range of emotions I experienced while reading it!
I was immediately sucked into the story, both because of the writing style – Honeyman’s writing is an absolute dream – and the main character, Eleanor. There is no waffle, no padding to the story. Every sentence, every word is carefully crafted and helps you understand Eleanor’s personality and world better.
Often in books I find myself frustrated when they drag on, or there’s whole paragraphs or even chapters that add nothing to the story. But Eleanor Oliphant was wonderful to read and I devoured it in a day.
Although this book touches on mental illness, the focus is on loneliness and the impact it has on someone who has no one - something that I haven't really read a novel about before. Eleanor is a delight to read about - because of her social experience she finds herself in some awkward situations (not that they seem awkward to her!). The remarks she comes out with are golden and I really loved seeing her develop as she began to make friends and go to social events. I'm hardly a social butterfly and saw some of myself in her at times.
As well as seeing Eleanor grow throughout the book, you learn more about her history and the reasons why she is how she is.
The other characters in the book were also a delight. Just as with the writing, none of the characters were there as filler either. I also really liked each of them, which is a rarity with most books nowadays!
And then just as you think you know how the book is about to finish, of course there is a twist. But it's a brilliant one and makes you see Eleanor's story in a different light.
I hope there’s a sequel planned as I really want to know what happens next – I was gutted when the book finished! I’m also excited to learn that a movie is in the works, which was the first thing I checked once I’d finished the book. I’m not a big movie fan but I think it would be fantastic on the big screen!

After I finished this book my heart felt really full and I just had to sit for a few minutes to take it all in.
I felt such warmth towards Eleanor as a character, my feelings towards her evolved like they appeared to for her peers within the story. She made me laugh, I felt empathy for her and mostly I felt so proud of her.
Such a wonderful book. I wish I could have given it six stars.
I was kindly sent a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Really enjoyed this book it had all the elements of a great read. It made me laugh and it made me cry. It was witty and quirky and Eleanor and Raymond make very interesting characters. I enjoyed how you saw the world from Eleanors point of view and the story revealed itself on her journey. It shows how simple kindness from can
change a persons view on life.. Warm funny and very thought provoking.

This debut story unfolds at just the right pace to give us insight into the character's life and history. We are teased with snippets of her past as the story unfolds. The little that is given, leaves us wanting to know more but the author very cleverly draws back so as not to detract from an excellent ending - one I wasn't expecting.. I felt a real affection and sympathy for the character and totally enjoyed the book. I'd be very happy to read more about Miss Eleanor Oliphant and where she goes from here.

You've got to love an unconventional narrator. Add in some unreliability and a childhood trauma, together with a time of personal growth, and it's a winner.
I loved Eleanor's voice, and was totally rooting for her. And top marks for a realistic ending to boot

I absolutely loved this book, I found I couldn't put it down. I was sucked into the characters and although funny at times, it was heartbreaking. One of the best books I have read in a while. I will recommend this book to friends, colleagues and book club.

I absolutely loved this book! It's hard to find something truly different these days, but Eleanor Oliphant definitely ticks the box. The characters are great, the storyline is gripping, and it has some great twists and turns. 5 stars. I loved it!

Eleanor is brilliant, the way she is described though she is awkward she is so lovely as well. She is going about her carefully constructed life in a way that does not harm anyone to any great degree. So when her and Raymond meet, the story gets another kick in how Eleanor and Raymond differ. But the coming together of these two characters and how they help out another individual brings us a story that is at times funny, touching and just an enjoyable summer read
