Claire has been going through a tough time, she has just had the all clear from months of chemo and radiation for breast cancer and the scars to prove it. Feeling the need to get away from everything she books herself a break in Bamburgh on the Northumberland coast

Arriving at the cottage she is initially shocked at the poor state of repair but it has its compensations - it is right on the beach apart from the attached house next door is remote from the village.........and when she sees the hunk next door swimming naked at dawn every morning things are definitely looking up!

A lovely warm book - predictable but still worth reading - lovely characters and the descriptions of the friends she makes in the village and the surrounding area, definitely a nice light summer read

This is a lovely book from a talented author. The best thing for me was ''feeling' the scenery. 'smelling and tasting' the food and wanting to escape there for a little while. Lots of authors set their books in lovely places but it remains in the title and cover page only. this author has breathed it into the words and the soul of the book. The story line was very good, full of hope and love. despite the difficult subject. Breast cancer will have touched many of the women who will read this book in some way, so its message of recovery and light at the end of the tunnel is important. The only thing that didn't sit too well with me was Ed's tragic past, it was just a bit too much drama and devastation for a book full of hope (just my opinion). Overall though a brilliant book. I need to go and bake some bread !! I will definitely be looking for more from this author - looking forward to be transported to some more wonderful places. Thank you

This was a truly heartfelt, emotional and wonderful story, with a few sad moments too, it really makes you think about life and to treasure the little things that makes you happy.

The story was well told, and it was free flowing and fairly fast paced, although I did struggle a little bit with references to Cancer as wasn't expecting it, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the book as a whole regardless.

I loved getting to know the characters and found myself quickly turning the pages in order to find out what would happen next in Claire's life.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the snippets of what characters magic moments were, how simple, varied and unique some of them were.

My magic moment is being able to get snuggled up on the sofa with a great book and having a cat sitting on my lap. Total bliss.

So this was my first Caroline Roberts book I've read but it definitely won't be my last. Can't wait to read her other books already.

No one gets out of this life alive – and sometimes it seems the world is determined to beat the stuffing out of you along the way. Claire has made it through the last year, barely, surviving cancer and the implosion of her marriage and now she’s looking forward to three weeks of sun and sand in her cottage on the Northumberland coast. Then she discovers the man in the neighboring cottage, Ed seems to be just as beat up by life as she is. Claire wanted this trip to be a solo experience, a chance to relax and just be glad she’s made it through the year, she certainly didn’t entertain any ideas of romance. But maybe, just maybe, two down on their luck souls can help each other out? What I loved about this story is that it wasn’t just about Claire’s relationship with Ed, it was about all the people in her life, people she loved and loved her in return. A truly lovely story
