Strangely compelling but rather odd. Some clever twists I'd not spotted but it just didn't gel well for me. Undeniably very clever and intriguing but maybe there were just too many lies for me to enjoy it.

It will definitely float the boat of many a psychological thriller fan but for me it didn't work.
3.5* as I can see the potential

After being in a bit of a reading slump for a week or so, this is exactly the kind of book I needed to read to get my life back in order. This book is fast-paced, twisty & turny and overall fun to read. Thank you, Feeney, for getting me out of my slump with this terrific mystery thriller!

This is most definitely, one of the best thrillers I’ve read in such a long time. The writing style is superb, the characters are so well developed and complex (in a good way!!) and the twists in the plot come out of nowhere (again, in a good way)!

I loved each and every character in this. No one is originally as they seem and as the plot builds and builds around them, each person grows more and more complex. We suspect all of them for different things, so sure we’re right, and then all of a sudden, a new revelation appears and we’re shocked back into not knowing what the hell is going on. That's what’s so great about this novel, you think you’ve got it, you think you know what will happen next, but don’t be so naive! Just you wait and see what Feeney pulls out of the bag next.

As for the plot, I thought this was wonderfully unique. Having the perspective of Amber in a coma, telling us her story, was an incredible way to keep us “in the know” without actually knowing anything!

This is a seriously dark, but superbly written and executed novel. Any psychological thriller lovers out there, must pick this up in 2017!

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for giving me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

The opening of this book fascinated me the 3 simple statements
1 I'm in a coma
2 My Husband doesn't love me anymore
3. Sometimes I lie
As all the information we learn is though Amber who is lying in a hospital bed in a coma and trying to decifer the truth and the half truths is difficult.Amber is in a coma but aware of what is going on around her and she is trying to remember why she is here she seems to have had a driving acccident but she doesn't drive?. She keeps trying to piece together the sequence of events that lead up to the accident and there is also an older timeline woven from the past this tells us more about Amber and her state of mind. There are so many red herrings and I was trying to work out what was the truth and what was a lie but just when you think you have it all together it goes off on another angle. This didn't just happen once but many times! I couldn't put this book down and even though I know what happened I am still in awe of how Alice Feeney made it all come together. This book is only her debut and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. A definate 5* from me.
Thank you to Netgalley for the copy of the book.

Written in a similar style to a lot of psychological thrillers recently, e.g. Girl on the Train and Behind Her Eyes, this has a difference. The main character is speaking in present tense while she is in a coma and trying to work out what happened to get her there.
What I really liked about the style of writing is the way that it plays with perceptions of the truth. You could argue that there are no lies in this novel, just different angles of the truth. Does the narrator really lie? I'll let you make that decision yourself.
Lots of twists and turns, which I find preferable to a massive twist at the end.
Enjoyable and though provoking.

I loved this: a familiar device, with the story told from different times.
The characters were well-drawn, and although not all likeable, mostly believable.
I enjoyed this, and didn't guess the main twist. I'm not sure the ex would really have got away with what he was doing!
Hooked me in for a weekend.

My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me:
1. I’m in a coma.
2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore.
3. Sometimes I lie.

This fast paced thriller is narrated by Amber Reynolds. She is in a coma and has obviously been involved in an accident. This book is twisted, unnerving and very difficult to put down. It is told in alternating chapters, with Amber lying in a coma able to sense things and remember bits of what happened, a historic narrative that gradually reveals what happened and entries from the historic diaries of a ten year old which give the background to the current events.

It is difficult to discuss this further without spoilers but given statement three above, I was always wondering about the reliability of Amber as the narrator. An unreliable narrator is a difficult device for an author to use as it can lead to confusion. Alice Feeney uses it very cleverly though I must admit that sitting stunned after the end and that repeating of the "Sometimes I Lie" at the very end, I did go back and read the early chapters and the last ones again to see if I had read it right! A great debut novel.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for a review copy.

Thanks to Net Galley & Harlequin for an ARC of this book. The first three sentences hook the reader and the pages turn themselves.
Amber Taylor Reynolds is in a coma and as the story unfolds it becomes clear that she does indeed tell lies, it would seem she has been telling them forever and her whole life has been lie after lie.
The lies to her parents as a child, lies to her one friend and manipulates her, lies to her friends mother, later lies to her husband and her work colleagues and in fact one of these colleagues is a made up imaginary friend and her boss Madeline is someone she has set out to destroy and why is revealed as the story unfolds.
The story is told by Amber from her coma, remembering her childhood and trying to piece together the parts of the jigsaw of the days before the accident. So many lies and secrets with lots of twists to the story. A great read 4.5 stars

Sometimes I Lie is Alice Feeney's debut thriller. I usually take descriptions of books like this with a bit of scepticism: 'Unnerving, twisted and utterly compelling, you won’t be able to put this new thriller down.' But it really is like this - and I did find it utterly compelling.

I like complicated plots with believable characters and with twists and turns to keep me glued to the book. This book has all this and more. I was puzzled, stunned and amazed at the cleverness of the plot structure and how I'd had the wool pulled over my eyes, although I did have a suspicion of what it was all about, I just hadn't worked out the whole truth.

I'm not going to say much about this book because I think it's best to read it without knowing very much about it. It's narrated by Amber Reynolds as she lies in hospital in a coma. She can't move or speak, but she can hear and gradually she begins to remember who she is and what happened to her. But as the opening sentences reveal sometimes she lies. Actually it's hard to figure out who is lying, who can be trusted and what really happened. There are flashbacks to what happened immediately before Amber ended up in hospital and there are diary entries from the early 1990s starting when Amber was nearly ten.

I thoroughly enjoyed Sometimes I Lie. It's a complex, confusing, disturbing and brilliant book. I read it in just two sittings and when I got to the end I immediately had to turn back to the beginning and start reading it again.

Many thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for a review copy .

I don't give 5*s easily but this one deserves them all. What a head messer that was. A brilliant book. So well written cleverly bringing three scenarios together - now, then and back in the early 90's. We know Amber is unreliable as told by the title but who else can be trusted? Very dark in parts with some disturbing characters. Great twists. I actually had to stop reading and just rethink all I thought I knew at one point. I hope Alice Feeney is writing another book now!!

Right from the start this gripping psychological thriller had me in its thrall. We are introduced to Amber, our narrator and main character, as she lies in a coma. Her hospital perspective of “Now” is enlivened by a throwback thread of “Then”, which offers hints of how she arrived at her current predicament, and “Before”, which speaks of her background and its direct bearing on the present.

All is not as it seems on the surface. Are accidents truly accidents, or something more sinister? Can she trust her family, her sister and husband in particular, never mind the medical staff? And is Amber who she thinks she is, or are we seeing her life through a cracked mirror or distorted lens?

Jumping around in time, this novel manages to sustain the suspense, intrigue and thrills in equal measure. Just when the reader thinks they've got a handle on it all, yet another divergence throws them off the scent.

I read this late into the night, desperate for sleep but more desperate still to discover how all the loose, unexpected, tangled threads would eventually come together, woven as one. I offer no spoilers here—suffice to say you will be captivated up to the final page in this cleverly written gem of a debut novel exploring relationship and remembrance.

A typical modern psychological thriller, it engages the reader throughout. An enjoyable read for fans of this genre.

Sometimes I lie to you is a book you can't put down. The plot switches from the present, near present and childhood of the main character. Initially I thought the plot was going to be fairly predicable but there were so many twists and turns it was hard not to stop reading. I would highly recommend this book.

This is a really amazing book. Totally original from the opening...
My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me.
1. I’m in a coma
2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore
3. Sometimes I lie
to the closing lines..
I could not put this book down. It flies along at an amazing pace, switching between present day and a couple of times in the past. There were moments when I could not believe what I was reading and I seriously did not see some of the twists coming.
This year is turning out to be a great year for female authors and this is easily one of my must reads for 2017.

Amber Reynolds is in a coma following an accident; the details of which are sketchy and slowly come back to her throughout the course of the novel. As readers, all we know is that her husband and sister are somehow involved although we don't know how.
The novel takes us in a journey with a narrator who admits that she sometimes lies, during a time when her recollections might or might not be unreliable. The result is a narrative that twists and turns and moves around in time from childhood to before the accident to the hospital bed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, it was inventive and had several twists that I didn't anticipate. It was also interesting to try and get to the kernel of truth at the centre of the narrative. I did feel that the final twist was slightly unnecessary but the didn't diminish the book as a whole.
I look forward to reading this author's next book.

I'm not sure that there is anything that I think of that would be worse than being in a coma and not being able to communicate but being able to hear everything that people around you say, it just is such an awful thought .I must be a sucker for punishment because this is the second book I have read about someone in this awful position ,the other one Try Not To Breathe is very different to this but both scare the hell out of me.This one is more of a psychological thriller and is told in flashbacks and as Amber the main character is now in her hospital bed we learn about her story, or do we.. you are going to have to read this book for yourself to find out, its a very good read and worth investing your time.I hope you find it as fascinating as I did.thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Wow, this is probably going to be THE psychological thriller of the year. It has so many unexpected twists, the reader is kept on the edge of their seats right to the end of the book.

Amber Reynolds is in a coma and the book opens with her stating 3 facts:
1. I am in a coma
2. My husband doesn't love me any more
3. Sometimes I lie

The first fact is what makes this book stand out from other psychological thrillers in that our narrator is trapped, in a coma, in hospital, unable to move or react to anything she can hear or see or to tell anyone what really happened leading up to her being there. The level of suspense that this creates is dizzying. The story is fast paced and well written and whilst a lot of historical events and memories are recounted the actual story takes place over the space of a few days.

The characters are likeable and well rounded and the reader is left never really knowing who to trust - they all seem to have something to hide. We learn about the supporting cast through Amber's eyes (literally) and as she gradually pieces together what happened to her, to put her in a coma, we feel her distrust and distress build. Amber and her sister Claire's upbringing is disjointed and dysfunctional and just when you think they have buried their differences and grown past the past, Feeney deals the final blow with the shocking ending.

Every time the reader thinks they know where this story is going, they would do well to remember those opening statements....especially 'sometimes I lie'. Will be recommending this all round.

Excellent read. Took a little to get into, but well worth the ride. Hang on to your hats! This one is a corker.

Oh my goodness, what a ride. Twists and turns, most delivered with a slap to the face, leaving me completely floored.
Amber is the most delightful unreliable narrator - not a spoiler, it's in the blurb and the title of the book! I absolutely loved her. But then, as more characters are introduced it starts to feel like she may not be the only liar amongst the cast. Secrets, lies, dysfunction, twists, this book has them all and all delivered with amazing expertise. Shocking and devious in nature as we start the book after Amber's accident and then follow as Amber tells her story, locked in to her coma. But remember, she lies.
As well as the present day and Amber's version of the days leading up to it, we also have excerpts from a childhood diary. How this diary fits in is unclear at the start but soon as things start to come to light... well, let's just say it all makes sense.
I can't say any more about the story other than it is extremely well crafted and delivered. Just when I thought all was ticking along, going where I expected; BOOM, where the heck did that come from? It is packed full of jaw dropping WHATs? But, believe me, they all work, they all make sense and none of them come completely out of left field. Remember; Amber lies... you know that from the start. Shocking!
Characters are all well drawn. I'd imagine that it must be hard to create characters that are so unreliable yet both believable and credible, but here, Amber is just perfectly crafted. The rest of the cast are also well drawn and, agendas aside, all equally believable.
I'd recommend starting this book with a huge mug of coffee (other beverages are available), cos you'll not be wanting to put it down. I'll also recommend having a huge pile of salt to hand, you'll need more than just a pinch for some of what you read!
And... it's another debut. Wowsers, Ms Feeney, I really can't wait to see what you serve up next. I'm salivating just at the thought of it!

My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
