I read this book a while ago and I absolutely loved it! It's a sweet story in a gorgeous setting. It flows so easily and is a book I would highly recommend.
With more woes than you can shake a French stick at, the learning curves of life and love push these poor characters above and beyond, as they appear to be targets attracting all manner of strife! Not only do they pack up their troubles in “the pig” (a vehicle in case you were wondering), they manage to fill it with a few unforgettable emotional souvenirs.
Forget summer holiday, this vacation is a complete tragedy – in a good way, of course! Never fear, their spirits are raised by good food (Leah has ingredients for every possible scenario), excellent company (namely Ronan and Curtis), and the unpredictable outcome of many, many trials that are set to test every member of their extended, troubled troupe.
This may not my usual reading fare, yet this absurdly chaotic family break ticks all boxes: hugely entertaining family dynamics, the building up and breaking down relationships, sparky romantic interludes, and that special feel-good factor, all narrated at a terrific, punchy pace.
I thought it was great, and quite possibly it’s the most eventful fictional holiday any character may ever have endured – sorry, "enjoyed".
(I am grateful to have received a digital copy of this title courtesy of the publisher via Netgalley, which I voluntarily chose to read and review.)
Just For The Holidays was a great book.
Touched on a few emotive subjects and plenty of twists and turns that will keep you hooked.
A great summer read that you will struggle to put down.
As it says - perfect summer read. Light easy read with more than a touch of humour in parts. The characters are quite entertaining and there are some wonderfully funny moments. It is a book full of almost farce like timings of people turning up at the wrong moments. The three teenagers in the story are portrayed well with all their misunderstandings and raging hormones. A good holiday yarn.
This is really the perfect book to enjoy whilst lounging next to the swimming pool on holiday. Michele was to me very immature and selfish for a 43 year old woman. That was about the only character that I did not like in the book. I enjoyed the rest of the characters and especially the chocolate tasting and bake off scenes. The was a relaxing book that I really enjoyed reading.
Just for the holidays by Sue Moorcroft is about a family's holiday in France. Madness, mayhem and teenagers. A good summer escape.
I would like to thank the publisher for my free copy of this book.
My review has been posted to my blog & Goodreads.
Review has also been tweeted as usual.
Thank you! :c)
Just for the holidays is pretty okay, it was a bit difficult to get a hang of the story with its many characters. But it soon eases and ends well.
A nice easy read that I could enjoy after a string of more difficult and psychological reads. It made me very jealous of the life that was being lead in France though.
A fun read, though if I was to be overly critical I would say the lead female character would’ve benefited from being less of a doormat to her sister
This is a lovely summer read! Perfect to pack in your suitcase or enjoy in the sun in your garden as I did.
The book starts in France as Leah is talked into going on holiday with her sister and husband who are going through a difficult separation. Their two teenage children are caught in the middle and Leah has the task of being there for them all.
With the discovery of her sisters pregnancy and her brother in law having an accident Leah is unexpectedly forced into becoming the mother figure for the teenagers.
Leah’s next door neighbour is single dad Ronan who’s son quickly befriends the teenagers and this brings him closer to Leah who is grateful for some support and advice.
The chemistry between Leah and Ronan becomes apparent but will this be just a holiday romance? Or something deeper?
Will Leah’s sister Michelle find happiness and can her marriage survive all the obstacles ahead ?
Many issues are explored in this book relationships, secrets, family difficulties, love, heartache , teenagers, infidelity and grasping happiness.
This book was well written and pulled at my heartstrings. I will be looking out for more of Sue Moorcrofts books .
Absolutely loved this book!! Highly recommend it 😀 love Sue..love her books. Another winner 😀
I really wasn't sure about this book when I started reading it. I don't like to give up on a novel and on the whole I'm glad I didn't this time.
The story of one family's turbulent summer often makes you glad for your own easy lives and this book made me feel this in abundance!
An ideal quick beach read.
This book reminded me why I love the genre as a change from books that require more thought. It's a chic lit book with a heart. A difficult situation for our main character who has to put conscience and responsibility before her desire for a carefree single summer. Relationships at various levels - romantic, parent/child, siblings - and broken families are explored in depthand we're all rooting for a happy ending. A lovely summer read.
read this book via NetGalley and I am so pleased that I did, I was in a reading slump, not being able to concentrate on anything. This light hearted, funny, family orientated saga style read really helped me out.
I absolutely loved the setting in Alsace, France where I have had the privilege to holiday there. I loved the sound of the food that leah made, being a choco-holic.
There are some moments when I held my breath and some where I laughed hard.
Absolutely recommended...in fact I have done to several colleagues. It's currently 99p on kindle too! BARGAIN.
Thanks to NetGalley and Sue Moorcroft and the publishers.
I've read some Sue Moorcroft's books previously and have enjoyed them and have found them easy to read and the perfect pick up after reading anything to gruesome. They are what they claim to be - easy going, light hearted comedy/romance books.
This one is slightly different though in that it isn't all light hearted and there are plenty of intense family moments which is just real life isn't it?
Would recommend her books as I just find them very easy to read. The only thing is that you tend to get through them faster than she is writing them...!
It's always a red letter day when a new book comes out from Sue and I couldnt wait to read this.
And I certainly wasn't disappointed. It has everything - love interest, dysfunctional families, handsome pilot, beautiful scenery and a lot of laughs.
As always, Sue creates deep, meaningful characters, interesting interactions and complicated relationships in the space of one book. I really felt for Leah, going on holiday with her sister's family, whilst her sister and brother-in-law were going through a very rough patch in their marriage. The holiday didn't promise to be a barrel of laughs!
But it was - it was all about self-discovery, mending and making do and the complications that children can bring to any situation. And it was very funny at times!
Thank you, Sue, for yet another great book and I look forward to Christmas!
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books UK and the author Sue for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I liked this book and I especially liked the authors writing style. She is very good at introducing characters, especially when there are so many. However, the plot line was very farfetched and that was the only thing that stopped me giving this four stars. I would recommend this book to someone wanting an easy read.
This is one of the very few romantic books I’ve read & must say much enjoyed.
I loved the story, it’s twists, challenges & the characters.
To see the transformation in Leah’s character, from a single, care free women who’s love only devoted to cars & chocolate (who doesn’t love a home made chocolate) to be in charge of her sister’s teenagers, while having a hot neighbor next-door to crush on.
Sue also tooks us thorough the journey of Michelle & her family conflicts and struggles related to parents separation.
It was a fast & enjoyable read.. if you love happy ending, this is what you need.
Thanks for an advanced copy.
