Nicci and Mark have been married eight years and things are a bit blah but ok. And then Nicci, on a night out, makes a huge mistake and confesses immediately- but Mark can't forgive her. He files for divorce. This is all about how Nicci sets out to get him back. But not Mark, exactly, a new improved Mark to go with a new improved Nicci. You might find both of them immature (I did) but it isn't my marriage so it's not fair of me to judge. A light read.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.
A very interesting tale that held my attention all the way through. Great plot, lotsa giggles & the writing kept me hopping! Thanks for the opportunity with this ARC!
So guys. I've requested this book because the title had immediately caught my eye, and also the synopsis promised it's going to be the uplifting, feel - good romantic comedy that I don't want to miss - just something I was in need of - and the cover, so beautiful blue...! When starting to read it I was really thinking yes, just what the doctor ordered.
However, very quickly everything went belly up. The first scene with the cake was relatively funny but that was all. To be honest, I've never even smiled when reading the story, let's forget about the promised "feel - good romantic comedy". I had a feeling that this whole book is one long whinge, grousing and unhappiness. The characters, Nicci and Mark, spent all of their time thinking they don't want a divorce but doing nothing, only inner - monologuing. And well... It's not easy, but let's talk about Nicci herself. She was acting selfish and childish and probably we should admire her for admitting her mistake to Mark but the only thing I felt to Nicci was indifference and I really didn't care what's going to happen with her. she shouldn't have made this mistake in the first place, right? Maybe it was brave to write a novel centred around such character and such thing, I don't know, as it could go two ways I think, and for me it just went the wrong way. And also, all the characters felt flat and under - developed. I also couldn't understand what adding some of the characters should bring to the story, like the old customer of Mark, and really, the birthday party that he attended made me roll my eyes and skip this chapter. Actually, I skipped a lot of this book, only skim - reading it - it just didn't keep my attention.
I didn't mean to sound harsh but it is really hard to sing this novel praises and it is probably true that when you have nothing nice to say, than better say nothing - I just think that I should justify my poor rating. When I start reading a book I am full of hope and I can't explain how disappointed I am that I didn't enjoy this story as much as I thought. I had great expectations for "How to Win Back Your Husband" and I am incredibly sad that this book didn't work for me. However I can see that people are enjoying it more than I did, so please don't feel dispirited and give this novel a go. I will for sure try the author's next story.
Firstly thank you to NetGalley and Vivien the author for letting me review this book in exchange for an honest review.
The book cover caught my eye from the start – thumbs up!
I liked this book from the off – I found it warm and it was really easy to get into and enjoyable to read. I liked how the story flipped between both of the main characters and their sides to the story. I thought it was refreshing for the female in the relationship to have been the one that was unfaithful as opposed to so many tales about it being the male!
It kept me guessing right up to the end as to how it was going to end – another thumbs up from me for that!
After finishing a couple of twisty and tense reads I fancied something a little more gentle and a little less terrifying this week so I opted for “How to win back your husband” by Vivien Hampshire. Thanks to Netgalley for the copy to cwtch up with & review honestly.
Nicci has made a big mistake which has cost her marriage. In an attempt to cheer her up, her gal pals throw her a divorce party – any excuse for a cocktail, right? Sadly no pretty, sweet, boozy beverage can even begin to ease her heartache when she’s just not in the mood to celebrate. Instead she sets out on a mission to win back her beloved Mark and – in the words of Cheryl Cole – fight fight fight fight fight for this love. (If it’s worth having it’s worth fighting for)
But with only 30 days until the divorce is finalised, can she win him back in time?
Compared to a few recent reads, the lack of crime and terror in this story doesn’t necessarily equate to a lack of feeling the feels; this is a really emotional book. There are some really tender moments amongst the more light-hearted feelgood stuff and I loved both Nicci & Mark’s honesty. The 30 days thing is a bit daft & not really necessary to drive the story forward but I can see why it was used. There’s also a little plot reveal that I wasn’t expecting which leads to a really satisfying ending.
A lovely choice for this week, five cwtches!

I didn't think I was going to like this. About half way in, I started to get a little fed up with Nikki and Mark's repetitive thoughts, but I managed to put that to one side and carried on reading. I was glad I did because the story took a turn I wasn't expecting and that rekindled my interest. The "ahh" towards the end wasn't a surprise, but then it didn't need to be, and the tension was maintained right to the very end.
Nikki and Mark both grew and developed throughout the course of the story and I believe they were better characters for it.
This is a story about second chances. Nic and Mark have been married for years but when Nic makes a mistake on a night out, it costs her their marriage.....but will she be able to win him back before the divorce is final?
I liked this story and it had some very loveable characters. The spunky best friend Jilly and the amazing 90 year old Gladys added a lot of fun to the story. The main characters have to figure out how to navigate through life without each other and examine themselves, their part in the marriage breakdown.
I chose to give this book 3 stars because as much as I enjoyed parts of the story and the characters, I found it slow in parts.
This is a lovely read. It's entertaining, there's a certain positive atmosphere intertwined throughout; reading it was so much fun, I couldn't put it down. The characters are well-written, the storyline is great.
But something bothered me about it, I couldn't quite grasp it, and I couldn't pin-point what it is until I gave it another read, and a quick scan afterwards. What bothered me was that I could imagine myself doing what Nicci was doing. I would've pretended to move on and silently suffered inside (I've been known to do so). Not being able to completely connect is why I'm giving it four stars. It is completely on me, you should definitely read it and make up your mind.
