I thought this was a solid read and I enjoyed it while reading, but found it forgettable. It wasn’t a book I thought about long after reading it. I decided to not continue on with the series, but would recommend it to lovers of mystery/thrillers.
Love the cover. New to the author. Great read. So much going on and packed into the paged! I did have a little difficulty keeping up with some of the characters, but I think that was just on me. It was such an amazing book. I will definitely be on the lookout for more from Carol Wyer!
Omg wow this book is amazing it's full of twists and turns it will keep you up all night I really enjoyed this book
A well done start to a new series featuring a smart and intrepid detective in Robyn Carter. You might guess some of the secrets but you will not see that last twist coming. A good read.
We meet Robyn Carter a young detective who is operating in the north east Hampshire area of England. For Robyn who very recently lost her husband then had a miscarriage, so took a leave of absence. One her return to duty, she returns she finds herself facing a challenging multi-murder case.
The case has a repugnant background of a dysfunctional family, incest, pedophilia, bullying in the school system and desperation of youth leading to psychotic criminal activity. It literally leaves you shocked and wanting to know more.
Without ruining the ending, which you probably won’t see coming, this is a great lead into what will become a great series featuring Robyn!
I received a free eARC of Little Girl Lost via NetGalley but that has in no way influenced my review.
So this is Wyer's first crime novel. Before turning to the 'dark side' Wyer was well known for her romantic comedies, so I was intrigued to see what she would deliver. I was blown away! This book is so beautifully dark and twisted. I had to stop and ask myself 'where did THAT come from??!'. I have read several other books by other writers where the author has turned from the light and fluffy to the dark and devilish, but I've always been left feeling a little 'meh' afterwards. Not with Little Girl Lost. No siree. This book packs one heck of a punch!
DI Robyn Carter has taken a break from the force to heal after personal tragedy. During her leave she does some work on the side for her cousin, Ross, who is a private investigator. When a Lucas Matthews is reported missing by his wife, Robyn begins to dig into Matthews' past. What she discovers makes her return to work and puts her at the forefront of the case. But what starts as a missing person escalates at a terrifying pace...
The book opens with a devastating prologue which was hard to read in one sitting. From there we're introduced to the brilliant Robyn Carter who I instantly liked. She felt damaged from what life had thrown at her, but determined to not let it beat her. I feel as though she has quite a way to go yet though, so I'm delighted that there are another four books featuring Robyn after Little Girl Lost. I'm looking forward to investing time in watching this particular character grow.
The plot is twisty and gripping from start to finish and once I had made it through the heartbreaking prologue, I struggled to put the book down. The story is told from three different perspectives; that of Robyn, Abigail - a young mother to Izzy who is receiving threatening calls and messages from an unknown number, and Alice - a young girl who suffers the most horrific abuse. We watch as life for Abigail deteriorates and no one, not even her husband, believes what she is going through. Then, in one of the most brilliantly written scenes I've read, Abigail's daughter is snatched from the back of her car. It's so tense, so nerve-wracking and I loved it!
Would I recommend this book? Yes, I would. Little Girl Lost gave me so much more than I expected. So much darker and ten times more sinister, and I loved it. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the DI Robyn Carter series, and then making a start on the Detective Natalie Ward series by the same author. Dark and twisty fiction, just how I like it! Highly recommended.
This book was okay. Nothing to writr home about. Bit confusing at times and sometimes lacking pace. Not the best book i bave ever read
Detective Robyn Carter is returning to work after a leave following the death of her husband and unborn child. During her break she was working as a PI for her cousin looking for a teacher named Lucas who was reported missing by his wife. Meanwhile Abigail Thorne is happily married mother to a baby girl but she has secrets which might threaten her marriage .
Little Girl Lost by Carol Wyer is a start of a new psychological thriller series.Alternating between Alice’s flashback from the past and present along with Robyn's story , the book does do justice to all the characters. A little slow in the middle the book does pick up pace later and keeps you guessing till the end .
I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.
Overall this book is worth a read, but i do have to say that the start had me questioning the choice on this book since it was utterly confusing and only very slowly started to get better until finally towards the very wend it got actually good.
If you don't mind very confusing starts with your crime books, this is perfect for you.
If you do mind those, this could still be a good book for you, just be prepared that you have to fight your way through very confusing pages until it gets good!
Bookouture and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Little Girl Lost. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.
Detective Robyn Carter is brought in on a case involving the abduction of a child, but she cannot help but have the feeling that the crime has a connection to the two murders that she is investigating. With her past history breathing down her neck, will the detective be able to methodically, but quickly, figure out the clues before the little girl is lost forever?
With so many positive reviews, I was expecting Little Girl Lost to be a fast paced thriller with the suspense ratcheting up until an explosive conclusion. Unfortunately, my attention waned throughout the book, due to the fact that it was hard to form a connection with the main character. The author took too long to join the separate parts of the story together, leaving the pacing sluggish at times. By the end of the novel, I no longer cared about the outcome. For these reasons, I would be hesitant to recommend Little Girl Lost to other readers.
A gripping thriller. Missing children thrillers seem to be everywhere at the minute, but this one stood out from the crowd!
Though I liked the book, I made the decision at the time I finished not to review it on my site. Maybe in the future I will include it in a book list post or another article.
What a great kick off to a brand new series! Twists and turns, thrills and chills, and a detective that you can't help but cheer on. Loved this book!!
Really enjoyed this book,it is a series I shall look forward to reading more of. Detective Robyn Carter has an unusual back story and I look forward to seeing how it develops.
DI Robyn Carter is investigating a missing person case with a private investigator during her leave of absence from the police department. Soon she discovers that the case is more dark and complicated than the wife suspects. It's the perfect case to bring her back to the police department and a job she loves when she makes it an official police investigation. A seemingly unrelated case of a murdered millionaire also lingers in the background.
Robyn's investigation leads her to three friends: Abigail, Claire, and Zoe. Abigail is receiving ominous letters and phones calls. She tries to hide the threats but her life seems to be slowly unraveling. Why is someone determined to hurt her? Robyn isn't sure why the three women keep popping up in her investigation but she's determined to figure it out.
This was a fantastic thriller and I can't wait to move on to the next book in the series. It kept me guessing until the very end. I had absolutely no idea what the conclusion would bring. I highly recommend this one. It's a great read.
I received this book through Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley.com, to Bookouture, and to Carol Wyer for this opportunity.

Little Girl Lost, is the first book in the DI Robyn Carter series. As the novel opens up, Robyn is just returning back to the police force. I really liked Robyn and all the other characters in this book. The reason I only gave it a three was that the alternating chapters was not my favourite for this storyline, and it could be confusing at times. I am going to stick with it for book two.
A very well written psychological thriller which grabs your attention and doesn't let go till the very end. I am so glad this is the first in a series as it means I have more to read. Great characters and a fabulous storyline. Thank you to the author and to Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
I discovered a new author when I read book 3, I hadn't realised there were prior ones, so the last couple of days I went back on them
So this is book 1
I absolutely loved it.
Lots going on in this book, not confusing, but so much is going on in my mind that I don't know where to start, its all good.
Alice is the little girl in this story, shes worried because her mother is getting ready to go out, she feels something is not right, she asks again, are you going out.
Her dad has only been gone for a year, but her mom wants happiness for them all and it is going to marry Paul.
Alice has suffered at the hand of a sexual abuser, and through Alice POV we learn of revenge.
D I Robyn Carter is recovering from things that have happened in her life, her loss.
She has just returned to work again after a leave of absence.
There is Abigail, we don't know how she fits in until later.
Two dead men, not connected.
I was not confused, I read it fine, a very busy book but easy to follow and so addictive.
I felt I was on a rollercoaster, I didn't know who to believe, what to believe but all I knew was, I was lost inside these pages and couldn't come out for air any time soon until I got to the end,
and boy, what an end,.
My thanks to Bookoutour for my copy via Net Galley, one of my fav publishers
Little Lost Girl was one of those reads that gets you hooked from the first page. Great (but heartbreaking) story with lots of twists & turns. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
