Beautifully written work that masterfully explores humanity and love and loss in all its forms.
George Ginever is a famed novelist who is struggling with his work and desperately in love with his American mistress Luce. Blythe, his wife, is also pursuing her passions. And Flavia, their daughter, smothered by her mother and neglected by her father, is embroiled in her own love affair and problems. The novel is the story of when George comes home to ask Blythe for a divorce so he can marry Luce instead.
The novel is very well written with incredibly in-depth characters and insights into humanity. However, the characters are all equally difficult to like as people at certain times, and while it adds a certain beauty to the book's examining of humanity, it can also make it difficult to truly enjoy the tale.
