Nick Dyson has come to Pakistan with his friend Robert Laidlow who is a special envoy for Britain. Robert is kidnapped and Nick spends his time trying to find him. After all without Robert Nick has no reason to be there. He tries to get the help of Robert's wife, Emma but she doesn't seem to be interested in helping. Gerald Macbeth who was an old enemy from school days seems to have something to do with the disappearance but nobody wants to look there. Lots of intrigue among the diplomats and the others there in Pakistan. Then where did the money come from Nick found in the safe? Many questions and not enough answers. .
