This one had me gripped from start to finish.
Lots of guessing.

To wake up in a hospital with no recollection only to find your husband is dead….and guess what? You killed him!

I loved how the author planted seeds in my brain only to be watered and no growth at times….I was none the wiser. It wasn’t misleading it was really provoking eagerness in me to keep turning the pages and I definitely did that!

The characters were real, I connected with them so much.

It’s a 5* from me.
I flew through this book in no time.

I found this story to be a so-so read and extremely wordy however, I did enjoy the ending quite a bit.

This was a great psychological thriller filled with many twists and turns and a few red herrings. I was hooked from the first page and did not want to put the book down. I did figure out the ending prior to getting there but I still enjoyed reading to the last page to see how Diane would let the ending unfold. I would highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to Diane's next book. Hopefully there will be one..

This book started off innocently in the hospital with Emily waking up on her husband's funeral day. Sour he can't remember what happened, and it was interesting to see where the discovery journey took her. Recommended, worth your effort!

A woman wakes up in the hospital and discovers her husband's dead after the results of the accident. She's no stranger to death when she was younger she was convicted of killing her father while he tried to molest her. She becomes suspicious her husband's not dead when mysterious things start to happen. I thought this was an interesting read that had an ending I did not see coming.

really enjoyable book to read and easy to follow story line

I thought this was a decent book, but it didn't grab me from the very beginning and refuse to let go. It was more like it was evenly paced and I didn't want to set it down and forget about it, but wasn't overly, ferociously determined to get to the end either. It was good, and definitely intriguing, but I felt there were some areas, such as how the MC felt about her husband's death that could have been explored in more depth before the end of the novel.

Still, this book has a lot going for it and a lot to recommend it. Even when I was half way or so through the book, I never really knew who I could trust. Even the main character seemed to be on shaky ground and that made it far more interesting. I liked her personality and the way she presented herself when there was trouble happening all around her. Emily is a strong female character with a lot of determination to survive and find answers to both her murky past and her present situation.

The secondary characters were also interesting and made the book worth reading. This novel has a twisty plot that will keep you reading, and keep you questioning what you think is really going on. Overall, it was a pleasure to read.

Emily Klein doesn't know what her husband is dead, until the day of his funeral when she wakes in hospital with no knowledge of what happened, or that she killed him. Her memory has gone, and she is struggling to cope when she can't even remember the accident that changed her life once more. However with the support of her nearest and dearest you would think that all would be plain sailing. No.

Strange things begin to happen, It doesnt seem that her husband is really dead, not when he is texting her - Emily begins to doubt her brain even more. Those who lie is a gripping thriller that isn't obvious, to me - its compleling, it had me doubting myself so i can only imagine what Emily was going through.

As a reader you become very unclear on who you can trust and you cannot, becasue not everyone is as they seem. With a cast of characters that are well padded out and so much to learn about them all, in some parts the pace has to slow. However I didnt expect this to be as gripping as it was, i had heard good things but it didnt prepare me for the twists and turns it would entail. With a brief synopsis and not alot to go on - it makes the reader want to delve in even more. The tension builds at a steady pace, with the grand reveal at the end that still left me shocked.

A fantastic debut read from an author that i cannot wait to read more from.

A fantastic read that takes you on a mystifying journey through the eyes of Emily, a woman who has woken up on the day of her husband's funeral. Apparently she is responsible, but she doesn't remember the events leading up to his death. In the weeks following, contact is made that shouldn't be possible and she sees and hear things that shouldn't be there - is Emily losing her mind?
The blurb gives little away, which is great, because I didn't have a preconceived notion of what to expect. What I got were great characters that are, for the most part, interesting and well fleshed out, and a storyline that is intriguing and solid enough to keep me up late at night, unable to put the book down. The author keeps you guessing and rooting for Emily, and ultimately delivers a satisfying twist to wrap up a fantastic read. Highly recommended.

Diane Jeffrey’s debut, Those Who Lie, is perfect for fans of Fiona Barton’s The Widow, a tense story that will have you gripped right up until the final page.

I was excited to read this book after spotting it on social media and I was lucky enough to win a copy on publication day thanks to the publisher. I wasn’t disappointed.

In Those Who Lie, Emily Klein’s husband has been killed in a car accident. She awakes in hospital to find two policemen seated beside her bed intent on questioning her. They are convinced that Emily isn’t telling them all that she knows about the car accident.

Emily has had to rebuild her life on the shattered remains of a childhood she has long since tried to forget. The story is told over two time periods, in 2014/2015 when Emily is coming to terms with her husband’s death and in 1995 when we learn of the true horrors she faced when she was a young girl. In the present day, Emily has started to receive messages on Facebook from her late husband, Greg’s account. She begins to think of the possibility that he might still be alive and is trying to get a message to her. The timelines were managed really well and I didn’t find myself getting lost or confused as this can sometimes happen when a novel is told over dual time periods.

Emily is a complicated character, it is clear that she is still suffering from the trauma that she faced when she was a child, and when events start to spiral out of control she finds herself making rash decisions, some of the decisions she makes, for me, didn’t paint her in a very good light and at times I found it difficult to like her. But by the end of the novel I really felt that I understood her.

I did find it a little unusual at the start of the novel, for the police to be sitting beside Emily’s bed waiting for her to wake up. I would have thought that the doctors would have kept them outside and made sure that Emily was well enough to talk to them. I didn’t like one of the detectives, who seems to dislike Emily right from the start. The detectives were great for suspense at the moment as I kept wondering when was the moment going to come when they would make their move or when they were going to announce that they had found something. I really liked the ending and I thought that Diane pulled it off in a really neat and satisfying way.

Overall, I really enjoyed this novel. I’m interested to see what Diane will do next! Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy to read.

I enjoyed this book it was really easy to read and kept my interest all the way through. I did find it a little predictable but nevertheless this did not detract from the enjoyment

A very well written Psychological Thriller with well defined characters. While I guessed early on, I didn't know all of the details, and it didn't stop me from turning the pages quickly to get the full story. An engaging read right up until the creepy ending that left me second guessing all over again!

A must read for anyone who loves psychological mysteries. The plot revolves around Emily suffering from memory loss after a car accident that took the life of her husband. As she begins to try to figure out what happened strange phenomena occurs making her question if this was an accident or something more sinister. There are flashbacks to her past which is a plot of it's own but may have a big impact on her present situation. Fast paced, great writing with many twists and turns and a "you'll never guess" ending make this a stay up all night read with great character depiction. Don't miss this one.

Not my usual read, I was a little wary of the scary element, but it was really well done - and though full of mystery and suspense it was in a gentle way that encouraged me to carry on. I read this book really quickly as I wanted to find out who did what, and why.... and it kept me guessing til quite far on.
I really enjoyed this book & read it in 2 sittings :-)
