The pre-release information about this debut novel and the blurb that advertises the story content is sparse but never-the-less intriguing, but I never for a moment expected such a high class psychological thriller that kept me guessing all the way through, with many twists and turns, a few red herrings and the odd blind alley that of course was confusing and led nowhere. The storytelling is excellently paced, with a well developed plot which is full of suspense, and the mystery and tension ramped up expertly. Each character is carefully developed, interesting and believable but with agendas and secrets of their own. The ending is explosive, unexpected and really rounds off the novel in a very satisfactory way.
Emily Cline wakes up in a hospital bed with only vague recollections about what led to her admission to hospital. She has no idea that her husband has died in a crash when he was a passenger in her car and indeed his funeral has gone ahead without her. She has partial amnesia and is very glad to have the support of her mother, sister and best friend as she convalesces back at home; she really needs her family and friends to help her through the ensuing investigation into the crash and through the confusion of her recovery.
Matters are made worse when she receives confusing text messages from her husband and then catches glimpses of him disappearing into the distance, but she is absolutely certain that it is him. He drives his car past her, but then later when she arrives home the car is there, parked on the drive. She sees him jogging, wearing his familiar clothes, only to find the clothing back where she has put it back at home. When her house is broken into and things rearranged, she even begins to believe that she may be going mad, or that her husband is trying to get in touch with her because he is in trouble and needs her help. She even begins to doubt her best friend, as gradually her memory begins to return and her flashback reveals her last conversation with her husband in her car just before the accident. Indeed, she wonders whether she can trust anyone, even herself and her memories, but especially her husband.
Told in different time frames and with a very engaging back story this is a really terrific debut novel. I would like to thank NetGalley and HQ Digital for my copy of ‘Those Who Lie’ by Diana Jeffrey, sent out to me in return for a fair and honest review. Diana has a huge talent. I am very excited and glad that I chose to read and review this novel. I am happy to pass on my recommendation that this is a very good read: a well deserved 9/10. I shall certainly make sure I read her next novel.

Emily Klein has a past and although she does not deny this a freak accident bring it in to the forefront.

A dead husband, a family with history and individual self doubt see this psychological thriller develop and has you gripped from the first page.
There are so many twists and turns in the plot that although you have suspicions they ebb and flow with the story line.
Emily's journey and the development of her character throughout keeps up the pace of your reading.
You also want to know the details of what happened in her past and when this is known the story completely unfurls.
Well written and much enjoyed.
Thank you to the Author,NetGalley and the publisher for this book in turn for an unbiased honest review.

Pretty good story overall. The true villain of the story was obvious about half-way through. It did maintain some suspense throughout.

More like 3.5 stars. A tantalising and taut thriller with more twists and turns than a corkscrew.Red herrings swim all the way through it. An excellent page turner

I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
The pre publication précis for this book is very brief so apart from knowing that this is a thriller and that Emily, the wife does not remember her husband dying in an accident, the plot is a surprise. Told over various different time periods the story unravels at a steady pace with some twists and turns along the way. Emily is a complex character who is very well depicted.
A good read.

How is it possible that Emily doesn’t even know her husband is dead until the day of his funeral? Slowly Emily begins to put together the events of what happened including the loss of her memory. The question is does she really want to remember? Her husband’s death may have been no accident and Emily may have had more to do with his death then she wants to remember
