Thanks Netgalley for this book - my review is entirely my own doing.
Thanks Jennifer for this lovely heartwarming chick lit book,. Be warned it will make you hungry - the cakes in this book leave you drawling for one!
Maddies decides to open her own Tea shop but sadly things are not going as well as she would like and sales are down. With the help of her friends she deicdes to set up a speed dating fundraising event - couple looking for love can also sample her gorgeous cakes! Hopefully this will get her business back up and running.
There are many characters that get introduced into this story - i almost felt there were too many and some of the names really annoyed me but overall a lovely read - step away from it all and immerse yourself in this one!

Having now finished reading The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts, I have just realised how hungry a large amount of the book has made me. There are so many mentions of delicious cakes being described, that I can only suggest you have some snacks ready, while you eat, as I suddenly have a large craving for cake, or maybe some of Maddie's apple crumble given her father, and also regular customer Birdie seem to love it so much!

Or maybe I should eat some of the little servings of cakes that Maddie serves, during the concept that she really hopes will put The Sweet Street Teashop on the map - speed dating and cake! Maddie's tea-shop is wonderful and it has a whole set regular customers, with various quirks.

There is Robbie who only ever wants Banana milkshakes, the builder who clearly fancies Mags who works alongside Maddie, Birdie who has a gorgeous son, Caleb, and very cute granddaughter Cara, there is also Nicky who is Maddie's best friend and works in the salon on Sweet Street, Neal, who is Caleb's best friend who may be interested in one of the women too, amongst others.

However Maddie's small cast of regular customers, aren't enough to turn a profit at the teashop, hence her need to come up with the dating idea.

There are so many scenes that just brought a large smile to my face, including a certain discussion about underpants with Caleb, when you get there I 'm sure you will agree! She occasionally speaks without quite thinking how it may sound, and thus has a slight foot in mouth problem! Regardless she is loveable and just trying to do her hardest for the employees, and be the best friend she can be, while being sworn off love.

With its delectable combination of cake, friendship, heartbreak, entertaining characters and just a whole lot of fun, written in an easy to read style, The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts is a highly enjoyable story.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this copy of the book which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I love afternoon tea, baking and romance stories so this sweet story ticked all of my boxes! The cakes described sound mouth watering and main character Maddie is vulnerable, funny and totally loyal to her family and friends. I love the idea of speed dating with added cake but don't think my hubby would approve! Feel good story that left me with a smile on my face.

A cute, fun story. I actually enjoyed it and this is typically not the type of book I like to read.

Madeleine Lamington is owner of the Sweet Street teashop. With her love of baking it is a dream come true for Maddy, yet after being open for only a year the teashop is struggling and she needs to find new ways to make a profit. That is when Maddy has the idea of hosting a date night – think speed dating with cake! Surprisingly this is a success and she finds that love is on the menu for more than her customers…
This is a light-hearted romp, with an easy chatty narrative and is all about friendship, dating and lots of cake. (If your new year’s resolution is to give up dessert this book could weaken your resolve!) I did like the main character Maddie, and her love interest Caleb, who have both had their share of heartbreak that has lead them to avoid dating. The story has lots of match-making and crossed wires with a fairly big cast of peripheral characters. Personally the humour was a bit laddish for me at times, or this would have had 4 stars, but essentially a nice story with a lot of happy endings.

This is the PERFECT chick lit novel to cozy up with! I absolutely adore it to pieces and felt all sorts of warm and cuddly feelings when reading it. This my friends, it what all chick lit novels should be like. How I have never read a novel by the author until now is beyond me, but you can bet that I will be picking up more of her novels in the future!

This book would be a great fit for those who enjoy sweet and heartwarming reads. It does have a little bit of angst to it, but it is not overdone in the slightest. Also, those who enjoy the "culinary" side of chick lit novels (those that take place in restaurants or tea shops like this book) would love this one. My stomach was making all sorts of noises when reading.

The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts by Jennifer Joyce is a fascinating tale. I highly recommend this novel to all women, everywhere. One young women has had her heart broken. Later on, she finds the courage to open up her own business. The Little Teashop. However, the sales are not going well and she may just lose it all. With the help of friends and family, she creates a baking speed date fundraiser. Couples come to meet other singles and taste her delicious bake goods. Maddie hopes the couples find love and most importantly love her baking. If they love her baking, she may have enough customers to stay open. But then, complications set in...like a man name Caleb. His mom is friends with Maddie's dad. Lately he's been helping Maddie with her plan to save her business. He comes up with names that make Maddie want to tease him, but there's the power of attraction that will make Maddie dizzy. Caleb is a good looking man that she could easily love. Only he doesn't love her back or so, she overheard him say. That's fine. She wasn't looking for love, anyway. Then, fate comes bringing them closer and these two plus, their friends, may find cupid's arrows after all. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. Full of laughter, frustrations, and love. Second chances and new beginnings are found within the plot. Steady but addictive. Overall, I highly recommend this sweet romance to all.

What do you get when you combine speed dating and cake? Apparently, a wildly successful formula for saving your teashop. At least, that was Maddie's experience in A Little Teashop of Broken Hearts. While I don't buy that this would have worked in real life, it made for a great story here, and since I also enjoyed the development of the characters' relationships, I gave this book four stars.

The first bit of the book reads more like standard chick lit than romance. It's about a struggling teashop and its newly(ish) single owner, Maddie. There's a lot of dwelling on her failed past relationship and the financial issues of the shop. This helps us get to know Maddie, though, and to understand her better. I didn't mind it since this backstory wasn't presented through careful introspection, but rather flashback scenes. I liked getting to know Maddie's friends in this part, too, and I think that focusing on something other than romance really helps make this story compelling.

Later on, though, the slow-to-start relationships between Maddie and Caleb and also Mags and Owen are believable and appropriately paced, something that's missing in many romance novels. I liked that the characters didn't fall in love at first sight and decide to get married after what seemed like five minutes.

This book was a light read and it definitely satisfied the urge to read something romantic, but it had a real story besides the romance, which is one of the things that made it particularly enjoyable. Even if you don't like romance novels, you might like this, since it's more chick lit than romance for the most part.

As for me, I definitely enjoyed reading this and I'm glad I was able to read it in between some heavier books. I recommend giving it a try if you like chick lit and/or romance.

I really enjoyed The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts. It had all of the characteristics of good chick-lit: past broken hearts, struggling new business with a plan to save the day, miscommunication, and an almost too good to be true leading man. My only complaint about this book was the number of supporting characters. There were so many people in this book that it took me until the end to keep everyone straight!

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

A great book about cakes and finding love.
It kept me hooked and I just needed to read on to find out what would happen.
Maddie needs a plan to rescue her bakery/shop and decides to hold some dating nights.....
Will this be the answer to save her shop and will she find love as well.

I adored the name of this book, there is something about teashops, coffeeshops, bookshops, antique shops and the like, in titles of books that draw me to them and this has the added bonus of a very pretty cover too. What more could this Yorkshire girl ask for.

I loved the romance the (speed dating was fun) and those cakes sounded gorgeous I am pleased my book wasn’t edible or I swear I would have piled the pounds on reading this scrumptious warm romantic book. The characters all gelled well and Jennifer’s writing really is heartwarming.

Title: The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts
Author: Jennifer Joyce
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: February 8, 2017
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Favorite Character: Maddie
Least Favorite Character: Joel+

Where to read: In your favorite cafe surrounded by pastries

This book is very charming and I really love all the characters. The main character is Maddie who about a year ago broke off her engagement. The book has flashback of Maddie at this time, so it goes to explain what happens in a gradual way. I really liked the flashbacks as it has shown how Maddie's priorities have shifted from her relationship and dead end jobs to owning her own (sort of failing) Tea shop. The side characters that surrounded Maddie are all very interesting and while the minor petty squabble between Nicky and Victoria was annoying as hell, I still really like the book and how they all connected with each other.

I also liked Maddie's budding relationship with Caleb, while it was a instant attraction the relationship was a bit of a slow burn. Maddie was great and I was able to relate to her (although she was much more easily embarrassed than I am) Her relationship with her parents was showcased as well and I loved her relationship with her dad (and an understanding of her lack of one with her mom) While much of the plot points were very predictable I loved it. The epilogue while a bit cheesy was great and I liked how it explained about how the characters lives went and how they all ended up happy. Sometimes we just need stories to have happy endings, and I'm glad this one did. Although Nicky's ending is still up in the air. Maybe a sequel?

A nice easy read. Probably a little too many threads in the plot to fall in love with, but the setting was lovely. All the characters were likeable. It was good, but not brilliant. I think all the characters were a bit too safe. Good though

The little teashop of broken hearts was just magical. There is a lot of love blossoming throughout the book with a lot of the characters getting together.

Maddie is the owner of the little teashop, shes a huge passion for baking and just wants her teashop to succeed. We see her fight to keep it open by introducing a dating night where people come and like speed date and taste a range of desserts in the hope they return to the teashop.

I would thoroughly recommend this book and is it is so cheerful. A perfect read for the upcoming Valentine's day.

Maddis Lamington is on the verge of losing her teashop on Sweet Street. She needs to come up with a plan, and quick. In addition, she wants to help her lonely father by setting him up on a date with her best customer, Birdie. Who doesn’t love a story about a teashop, a quaint English village with a quirky heroine

Cosy and fun light romance. Great characters and setting. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Maddie's teashop but the name Madeleine Lamington was just way too twee for me, and yes I get the baked goods connotation.
