A short and fast read, Cave Beyond Time by Malcolm Bosse covers an uncommon plot with a time travel twist. It felt juvenile since it was written from the young orphan boy's point of view as he is bitten by rattlesnakes and then has a vision rabbit lead him down a road to prehistoric times. Although oddly enjoyable since it was so different, I don't expect it to make a big splash outside of preteen to early teen ages.

Ben, 15 yrs old and orphaned, is sent to live with his uncle who is on an archaeological dig in Arizona. Feeling lonely and disconnected from everyone and everything, Ben wanders off alone into the desert and is bit by two different rattle snakes. While suffering the effects of the venom, a rabbit appears and leads him to a highway where he falls asleep. He wakes up in a prehistoric time where he sees mammoths and Saber tooth cats. A small clan of people shelter him and he learns that way of life. After a time, he wakes up again in another era of time. Eventually making his way back home, he learns great things about himself.

Originally published in 1980, this book is fantasy at its best and a great way for someone to escape into a book on a rainy day. Clean language, appropriate for young teens.
