I didn't realise this novel was part of a series and felt that I needed to have read the others to understand the characters and story line better. Well written but did not finish

OMG
After not liking book 1
Then enjoying book 2
This final book (bk 3) has brought me to my knees (reading knees)
Imagine if you switched on your PC and in live stream you saw someone being raped.
Yeah
I kid you not.
What ensues after this is remarkable.
I’ll never be the same on social media again!
What a fabulous end
Whilst this book is the third in the Social Media Murders series, and the first I have read it does work well as a standalone novel. This book is full of strong characters, I enjoyed that two women leads, the storyline is good and there is great character development. I will be reading the previous two books in the series and look forward to number four.
After reading the previous two books in this series, I was really looking forward to seeing what the two main characters Nas and Freddie had been up to. This is a brilliant series. My favourite was the very first one ‘Follow Me’. Probably the reason for that though, is that I use Twitter, which is the type of social media used in this book. The second book, ‘Watch Me’ uses Snap Chat – which I don’t know much about, and the third, this one ‘Trust Me’ uses Periscope which I know even less about. However, the books are so current in the way it talks about social media, it is an addictive read. So, this mixed in with crimes, murders and great characters makes Angela Clarke’s books one of my much anticipated reads.
‘Trust Me’ did not disappoint, and I loved catching up with Nas and Freddie. After they are told about a murder that was live streamed on the internet, the case was one that could easily be dismissed as ‘a vivid imagination’ from a single woman. The video of a vicious attack that Kate saw is no longer there, so no proof exists except what Kate says she saw. Do Freddie and Nas believe her, should they investigate further?
There is also a missing person investigation going on, and we are taken along on the journey with Nas and Freddie while they try to figure out what is going on, who the criminals might be, and if there are any victims that can be saved. The story is set in London, and the description of estates, run down areas and gangs make the plot come alive as we fear for the victims and also for Freddie and Nas at points.
The relationship and stark differences between Nas and Freddie is a huge part of what makes these books so addictive. In some ways, I wonder how they can be friends and in other parts they work amazingly as a team. Freddie’s impulsiveness, unpredictability and intuition make her one of the most interesting characters I know. Whereas Nas is uptight and a stickler for rules (most of the time 😉 ). But both are strong female lead characters to love.
The Social Media Murder series is one of my favourite crime series. The Author writes believable, current and frankly scary plots. The books should make the reader consider how much of their lives are online. But then the reader could get so engrossed in the plot, characters, relationships and crimes that we are taken into the world of Nas and Freddie, so we forget about our online lives and are living in the pages of Angela Clarke’s words.
this book was a real page turner ,i havent read the other books by this author but will be purchasing them if they are as good as this book, personally recommend this book
This is book 3 in the series, and the series just gets better and better. Ms Clarke has in my opinion established herself as a prolific author and someone to watch out for in future. Great read and highly recommended!
What can I say the third book in the Social Media Series and they just keep getting better. Naz and Freddie are back and once again a great read and a great partnership. I am pleased that they may have been picked up for a TV series and I hope they cast the right people. Nice short chapters to keep the pace moving and a great few twists and turns to keep the plot moving.. Once again right on the nail with social media and people logging onto a live stream of a possible murder. REALLY gripping.
Angela is fast becoming the go to British Crime Writer. Read them in order but what ever you do read them!.
Trust Me is the third book in the social media series by Angela Clarke.
Each of the novels have focused on the more worrying sides of social media. In this book, the site featured is Periscope. It is another that I have never used but one that I do understand. Sort of.
This is a series that I am up to date with, an unusual occurrence for me with all the books that are published. I have enjoyed getting to know the characters, seeing them settle into their roles and changing their views as they learn. I have seen all their strengths and many faults, these police officers are more human than some that are seen in fiction. They also have complicated relationships.
Out of the three books that have been published this is my favourite one so far. Partly because Periscope is less complicated than other social media sites but mainly because I now know these characters. My favourites, Saunders and Chips have more of a presence and there is less focus on Freddie and Nas’s past.
Freddie has grown on me over the three books. Her desire to do the right thing isn’t always the correct way from a policing point of view and she struggles at times with the choices that she makes and getting into trouble for them. The attitude of some of the police towards her role was convincing. I can believe that there are some officers who think that civilian officers are not important to an investigation. I read the novel quickly, the chapters were very short and there were multiple narrators. Some accounts were upsetting, especially the ones that were anonymous and some were intimidating.
I hope that this isn’t the final book in the series, part of me feels that it has been brought to a close. I hope I’m wrong. I don’t think of it as an intense crime series if it was televised it would be more like No Offence than Line of Duty. Its great fun, even though the subject matters are serious.
With thanks to the publisher for the copy received via NetGalley.
Trust Me is Book 3 in the brilliant series by Angela Clarke. Each book gets better and better.
I came across Angela Clark by accident and I am so very pleased I did, I’ve spent many a happy hour curled up lost in one of her books. If you have never read her, you don’t know what you have missed.
This is the third in the Social Media Murders series and it’s a cracker. The main characters in third book Freddie and Nas are believable because of the groundwork that has been put into the previous books. Freddie has a tendency to get caught up in cases and takes risks and sails close to the wind with her superiors, whereas Nas is straighter of the two laced and tries to work to rule.
The roller coaster ride in this book is centred round a live-stream on facebook of a rape/murder/snuff link that teacher Kate has the misfortune to watch. She is stunned and phones the police but with nothing to see they don’t believe her. Not one to leave things she went speaks to Freddie and Nas they believe Kate and they begin to think that the young girl in the video could be Amber the missing young girl they are looking for.
Once you pick this up take a seat, get a cuppa and be prepared to think, just once more chapter till it’s done.
Read for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley and Avon
A super mystery that keeps you guessing until the end... lots of characters to keep track of, but it's so worth the effort as Freddie and Nas are a dynamic duo! Hope to read more of them!
My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher, Avon and author Angela Clarke for the ARC. Trust Me was published on 15th June, so I apologise for only posting my review now. Life gets in the way.
Trust Me is the third novel in Angela's Social Media Murders series, the first two being Follow Me and Watch Me.
Angela is proving to be a great crime writer. This book, along with her others, keeps you guessing all the way through, and it is wonderful to see how her writing has developed along with the recurring characters. She definitely knows how to scare me to death!
Crime-fighting friends Freddie and Nas are back, and still struggling to be accepted by their male colleagues. There's a hint of romance in the story too for both women, adding an extra layer of drama to an already adrenalin-filled read.
This time live-streamed video is used to scare us to death. Those who see it aren't quite sure if it's real, but Kate, a teacher with a sad past, believes she has seen a girl brutally murdered and refuses to be ignored.
We're dragged along at full-speed in another race against time with Freddie and Nas, fraught with peril and danger that had me holding my breath and gripping onto my Kindle for dear life.
Gritty and hard-hitting, sometimes it's a little bit too real for comfort, but then no one expects a crime novel to be warm and fluffy.
I cannot wait for the day I watch this series on TV from behind my cushion!
Be warned, after reading this you might find yourself thinking back wistfully to the days before social media ruled our lives...
Like many others, I first discovered Angela when 'Follow Me' was released back in early 2016. I raced through it, hoping there would be a sequel. Delight at the news that there was to be another in the series quickly turned to despair knowing I would have to wait months and months for it to be released!
As expected, when 'Watch Me' was released I grabbed my copy on publication day and devoured it! I was extremely fortunate to be allowed access to an advance reader copy of 'Trust Me' and again, I could not wait to read it. It delivered, just as much as the previous two, perhaps even more so as we witness the friendships and relationships evolve further, bringing a new depth to the characters.
This series is one of my favourites. It is super fresh, relevant and current. The social media aspect brings in everything we rely on day-to-day in our 21st Century lives in order to present fast-paced, gripping thrillers with characters you are destined to fall for. Freddie Venton has been my favourite since day one. She is wild, brutally honest and totally unpredictable and compliments Nas' more conservative nature perfectly.
'Trust Me' go and read it!
I really enjoyed this. I think Nas and Freddie are great characters and I would definitely read more books about them. The book is fast paced the whole way through and the short chapters add to the suspense. Really well put together and a really good read.
Thanks for the chance to read Netgalley. I already loved the last book by Angela clarke so was happy to be chosen to review her new one! Love Nas & Freddie and can't wait for the next instalment. My type of book, I read quite quickly and was disappointed when it was finished. Well written and I would recommend to anyone!
A completely amazing book in this series . Once again the author keeps you completely enthralled
Trust Me by Angela Clarke
When Kate catches online a live video showing the rape and probable murder of a young girl, she has a job to do persuading the police to believe her. The video has been deleted, the username removed, and Kate is known to have had issues in the past which make her an unreliable witness. But DS Nasreen Cudmore and Freddie Vinton (once a social media consultant to the police and now promoted to the role of civilian investigator) do believe Kate. They are currently investigating the disappearance of Amber, the daughter of a local gangland boss, and, from the sound of it, this murdered girl could well be her. When further people own up to having seen the video it’s harder for the police to ignore it. Nas and Freddie are put on the case and it takes them right to the heart of one of London’s large and labyrinthine estates.
Trust Me is the third novel in Angela Clarke’s hugely entertaining Social Media Murders series. I’d go so far as to say that it’s my favourite of the three, perhaps because Nas and Freddie, despite a few inevitable misunderstandings, have settled into being a team and Freddie is more comfortable in her role. While other members of the team continue to treat her as an outsider, it’s clear that Freddie has made significant progress – and not just because of the obvious reasons. She is more settled and therefore she can begin to think about some of the other areas of her life. Freddie is really beginning to shine and in Trust Me it’s a joy to spend time with her. Also, in the previous novels, the focus in each had been on a particular type of social media. This time we’re given a more general picture of the role of social media in life, crime and policing. I liked that.
The focus in Trust Me is largely on Freddie but that doesn’t mean that Nas is left in the cold. She has always been my favourite of the two as she balances her career with her friendship to the more wayward Freddie. I thoroughly enjoyed her repartee with her boss Saunders, whose personality is such a highlight of the novel. As usual with these novels, Angela Clarke brings us closer to her characters by moving the narrative between them. Most chapters focus on Nas and Freddie but, significantly for this book, other chapters give us Kate’s story (and it’s a powerful and often moving one) and also take us into the world of the killer.
The crime which opens Trust Me is particularly unpleasant and, I must admit, I did wonder if I would be able to get past it. But I was soon back in safer territory with Nas and Freddie, and the investigation into the crime is sensitively handled. As is Kate’s story. There is an emotional power to this novel which complements very well the banter we’re used to between Nas, Freddie and their colleagues. But, as we’d expect, Trust Me is every bit as exciting as its predecessors and Nas and Freddie continue to go beyond the call of duty and put themselves in the heart of danger. They care so much.
Trust Me can be read easily as a standalone novel but I’m really enjoying the ways in which this series is developing as Nas and Freddie come into their own. Roll on book four!

Follow Me
Watch Me
A brilliant thriller, and so apt for todays age of social media, internet oversharing. Freddie and NAs are likeable yet also slightly flawed characters, easy to identify with, and you will be willing them to solve the clues they find throughout the book.
