This book takes off quickly and doesn't slow down. The story bounces between past and present so you need to pay attention to the heading on each chapter but it's easy to follow along. I must say that it is not predictable in any way and the ending was quite a shocker! I can't wait to read more from this author as this was well written and keeps your interest.
Totally enthralled in this book from the first chapter. Fantastic the,way it all came together in a shocking ending.
After leaving school three years ago, Evie disappeared. There were no witnesses, and the police haven't been successful in finding her. This is the story of what really happened, and there is a big twist at the end that will stun the reader. I thought the plot was great, and the character development was quite good. I found it difficult to put the book down. It is one of those rare books that keeps the reader guessing till the end. I recommend this book, and I have already checked to see what else this author has written. I look forward to reading more by K. L. Slater.
Hey, fellow book nerds ... I've never written a review like this before (in the sense that it's not a review of the entire book), but here it goes:
I managed to get half way through before giving up on this one. It is extremely rare for me to not finish a book. It actually bothers me quite a lot to put one on the "DNF" list. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy anything about it and could no longer force myself to read it. I tried. Truly, I did. But I also try to avoid 'read rage' (it's the bookish version of 'road rage'), if I can, and what I read of this book kind of made me want to break things.
I have read many rave reviews of it on Goodreads, so maybe I'm missing something or maybe it's just not a good fit for me, personally, but I wasn't a fan of the pacing and structure, it didn't hold my interest, and the characters were annoying - infuriating, even - in both minute and major ways (i.e., if the mother referred to her daughter as 'poppet' one more time, I was going to LOSE. MY. MIND.; she is incompetent, easily rattled by everything, yet somehow still oblivious; the grandmother is overbearing, condescending, meddlesome, and, quite frankly, needs to be told where to go and how to get there). I didn't like them at all, I wasn't invested in them in any way, and I honestly didn't care about discovering what the 'twist' was, as the first half was already feeling like such a slog.
Talk about blind the reader with possibilities. Missing children are always a storyline that will grab my interest and this book was no exception. Evie goes missing from school and the suspect list is endless. Mum is late, the teaching assistant is seriously weird, Mum's new boss is baby mad even Granny's losing her marbles and falling down stairs but where is Evie and who took her? The answer is to be found at the end of a very readable and twisty novel, I changed my mind several times about what was really going on. My only complaint was the ending. It felt a little rushed and I would have liked Toni to work it out herself rather than a big reveal scene however I can forgive this for what went before.
Thoroughly enjoyable and will keep you gripped, until the very end! Highly recommended!
Blink ..... at first I couldn't quite get into this book .... I have no idea why but I decided to put it down and try again. Fast forward one week and I've just finished the book and I loved it. twists and turns and written really well. totally unexpected ending but had me totally gripped
Don't often give a 5 stars but this more than earned it.
As I started to read this book I was almost too scared to carry on thinking that poor Evie was going to end up being hurt through the neglect of her mother who is struggling to cope with losing her husband. Toni and her daughter Evie move from London to Nottingham to be closer to her mum and this is where it starts on moving in day. Finding out you have not very desirable neighbours and the house isn't great is just the start of this physiological thriller. The chapters are quite short which makes you squeeze another one in when you should be doing something else and they are split into three years earlier and present day. There are a lot of characters in this book which makes it hard to pinpoint the abductor. This had me pointing the finger wildly in all directions then towards the end I had sussed it but no!! I was wrong again, I won't go and spoil it but the twists and turns made me rethink everything I had read before. A fantastic read.
I would like to thank netgalley and bookouture for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. The fact that the story was told from different perspectives improved the suspense of the story.
The ideas the book presented about parents being blamed in child abduction cases was interesting.
I highly recommended this book.
WTF! There are no words to describe how incredibly twisting this novel is. None. K.L. Slater slayed it with this fast paced thriller! This book has been one of my favorite reads yet!
When we first start reading this undeniably breathtaking thriller, we see that it alternates in-between two timelines. The first time is 3 years back and the second timeline is the present day. Toni, widow and mother to Evie, lost her husband during a military assignment. To make life just a little bit more simpler for them, they move closer to Toni’s mom. She stars a part time job at a real-estate agency and has put Evie into a new school. Toni left a good friend back home (Tara) who also lost her husband in the same military assignment and had recently lost her child.
Being in this new town and finally getting this new job, Toni finally believes things are starting to look up for them. Toni even made a new friend at work, Jo. Toni had high hopes for this new town and the minute she believed most of everything was going to be okay the worst scenario could have happened. Toni’s mom slipped and fell down the stairs and Toni was late to pick up Evie from an after school session. When she arrived, Evie was gone. She had been abducted.
Toni had everything working against her the second her daughter was taken. Toni had a recent history since her husbands death of taking pills that help calm her body and almost put her in a slight comatose state. She became very forgetful of small details and spaced out often during conversation. This alerted Evie’s teacher, Miss Watson and she started to become very pushy when it came to Toni and her mother. The police couldn’t identify a suspect three years ago but when a stroke victim who is pronounced in a vegetative state is brought into the hospital everything changes. Because they are undeniably connected to the disappearance of Evie Cotter.
Bookouture has done it again! Another 5 star rating for an amazingly written dark and consuming novel. Even though it took me a few days longer to read than I hoped, I devoured the pages every time I picked up my kindle. If you are a fan of Behind Closed Doors, I highly suggest this novel. K.L. Slater not only had me guessing to the very end but she also made me loathe characters too. I am a preschool teacher and the way Miss Watson handled her profession, the children and parents were so unethical. There was even a point half way through the novel where I had thought one person was not the person who I thought they physically were. Way to go Slater!
Thank you tremendously to Bookouture, NetGalley and K.L. Slater for allowing me to read this novel for my honest review.
This book keeps you right on the edge of your seat, with a tightness in your throat and a desire to yell out and warn the characters! A thrilling read!
I read the narrative for this book and was excited to read it. It did not disappoint. I read the book from start to finish within days, I couldn't put it down.
I believed I had guessed the ending however, I was totally wrong and did not see the massive twist in the tale. The story unfolds seamlessly and drip feeds you information keeping you interested and wanting to know what happens next. You can't help but feel sorry for the main character, Toni, a widower dealing with the death of her soldier husband whilst trying to bring up a young child and move forward in life.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book, K L Slater is an author I will definitely be reading again in the future.
Thank you for the opportunity to preview BLINK. At first I found this book difficult to get into, but I gave it a chance, and I am glad I did. This book is wriiten in several voices - Toni, Mother and Widow of a small child - Evie, Toni's 5 year old daughter - The Teacher, a older woman who takes a strange interest in Evie - "The Patient", a woman who is stuck in bed and cannot communicate but is very much alive,-The Nurse, a woman at the hospital who recognizes the woman in the bed. Who is the woman in the bed who very much want to tell someone her story but can only Blink.
Toni is recently widowed as her husband has been killed in Afganistan. She has a little "pill" problem and things are starting to get out of control. Toni loves her daughter but is struggling to make a life for the two of them, She can't seem to get things right. She is losing things, sleeping while Evie is up, and unable to move on in her life. Her mother reminds her of her shortcomings, and Toni starts to think she is going crazy.
The story line goes back and forth with each character over a 3 year timeline. Evie has been taken and no one knows what has happened to her - is she alive or not. The voices of the character tell their story and the hairs on the back of your neck will standup - Who took Evie? There is a long list of suspects to choose from.
Fast paced with a surprise ending. Liked this book alot and look forward to Slater's next thriller.
The premise of Blink is so eerie, with a missing child, and I was immediately drawn into the story. The characters were intriguing, and I was constantly guessing who was suspicious and really shocked by the ending!
A fast paced read that bounces back and forth between present day and 3 years prior. This twisty book leads the reader astray with its many red herrings and has the reader flipping the pages faster and faster until it's satisfying conclusion.
This book was great! I love a great thriller and this one had me guessing the entire time. Great story line and plot. I would recommend this book to friends!
Brilliant!! Blink is a psychological thriller. Its multiple perspectives are extremely easy to follow. Another winner from KL Slater!! Thank You Netgalley.
Three years ago, Toni’s five-year-old daughter Evie disappeared after leaving school. The police have never been able to find her. There were no witnesses, no CCTV, no trace. But Toni believes her daughter is alive. And as she begins to silently piece together her memories, the full story of the past begins to reveal itself, and a devastating truth.
There are many psychological suspense novels around at the moment, so a book has to be really good to stand out. And this is. It’s really, really good. It’s an emotional ride, a ‘OMG’ ride and a tear jerking ride. One of those books you can’t wait to get back to. Ms Slater is becoming a writer of repute and her style reminded me of the writing of Elizabeth Haynes and Sharon Boulton. Excellent!
Blink by K.L.Slater is a a gripping fast paced psychological thriller with great twists and turns.
Tori Cutter lost her husband tragically in Afghanistan and finds it difficult to cope with day to day activities and resorts to sleeping pills. She and her five-year-old daughter Evie move closer to her mom in Nottingham for a fresh start. In a financial crutch, Tori finds a job at a real estate company, meanwhile Evie finds it difficult to cope in her new school. One day Tori is late picking up Evie from school and faces a mom’s worse nightmare. Evie has disappeared and no one knows anything. For years Tori gets blamed by the media and judged by other people for being a bad mother. But she hasn’t given up hope and will keep searching till Evie is found.
The story goes back and forth between “Three years earlier” and the “Present Day”. The characters are very well developed and one cannot help but feel for Tori. The book is full of twists and turns which keeps you guessing throughout. It is a cleverly written, fast paced, psychological thriller with a surprise ending.
Many thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for this advance reader copy in exchange for my honest and fair review.

Thank you very much to netgalley and bookouture for the arc of this book which it is my pleasure to review. Blink had me hooked from the very first line what a rollercoaster ride this book took me on, I just couldn't put it down and I never guessed the ending which left me shocked. The story revolves around Toni who's hudldband died recently and she decides to move nearer to her mother but they are constantly at logger heads and her little daughter Evie changes for the worst after starting her new school until one day Toni's and every mother's worst nightmare comes true and her daughter Evie is kidnapped and Toni is blamed because she was late collecting her from school! I don't want to spoil the story but this is one of those rare books that will stay with you long after you've read the last page!!!
