Firstly, the cover for the book looks amazing from the pictures I've seen, gorgeous colours!
Secondly, this is a collection of one fairly short story and several other very short (a few pages long) stories, so brilliant for picking up and putting down again in between each tale. I am a fan of short stories particularly because they offer people a chance to read who are unable to tackle book length books due to health issues or time constraints for example, and yet when done properly leave you thinking about so much after, what happens next etc. Perfect for family holidays when you might only get half an hour in between activities or lunch break reading etc.
Thirdly, Paris For One was my favourite out of all of the stories; with such fabulous characters, especially the amazing Marianne, and the sort of feelgood, empowering, escapist story I love in a book.
This is a fantastic book of short stories, all new to me after the novella “Paris for one” at the start. I thoroughly enjoyed every one which is unusual in a collection like this. Each one of them is about quite ordinary women whose lives are transformed somehow, sometimes by chance encounters with strangers or comments that lead to lightbulb moments, or even a pair of shoes or a painting, that make them look at their lives in a completely different way.
Jojo is versatile in what she writes and I love coming to a new story and having no idea where it will take me. Almost everything she writes feels fresh. Each story is very different ranging from someone having an unexpected encounter with a lover from the past at a party, to a TV celebrity accused of an affair, to a honeymoon that turns into a disaster, and a burglary at a jewellery shop, which was hugely entertaining and although one of the shortest also one of my favourites.
Some of the stories are romantic, some funny and many are clever with unexpected twists. It has a lovely flow that makes it effortless to read. You really do feel transported from one place to another and Jojo manages to evoke the readers’ empathy easily so that you are there with her characters. I love the theme of grabbing life with both hands which made for a satisfying and life affirming read. Even if you are not to fussed about short stories will love these if you enjoy Jojo Moyes. A brilliant collection, I loved it.
Paris for One and Other Stories is a collection of short stories by Me Before You author Jojo Moyes.
Some of the stories were shorter than others but all of them equally engaging and definitely relatable from a woman's point of view. Like the story about the woman who wants a new coat and can't afford the one she really wants.
It's a simple story but one that resonates because there's an underlying story to it. It's not really about the coat, it's about the recession. It's about the changes to people's lives when the country falls into financial difficulty.
There's the romance of the main story Paris for One. The old story of an unsuitable boyfriend letting you down, only for your whole life to be turned upside down when your regimented life becomes impulsive and full of excitement.
Paris features heavily in Other Stories as well.
Overall I found this collection of stories really enjoyable. The subject matters covered everything from affairs to new shoes. Right through to my favourite story of all: The Christmas List.
Love, loss, liberation, friendship. These stories have it all!
A lovely collection of small stories that made me smile. I would happily read a full length novel about any of the characters
This book includes 9 short stories about troubled relationships I loved every single one. Fab book to either binge read or to slip a story In between books
