I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher, in return for an honest review. This review is based entirely on my own thoughts and feelings.
Overall rating : 4*
Writing skill : 4*
cliché-ness : -1*
Characters: 4*
This book is a collection of short stories, with the first longer than the others, a novella if you will. I thoroughly enjoyed the first story but as I've stated above, it was rammed full of cliché moments that you'd find in most chic-flick novels. The stories that proceeded were quick paced and although not necessarily original, they were entertaining all the same. I don't really read short stories very much, the longer the better for me, but I will try a few more after this one.
Enjoyed reading these stories. The author is good at what she does and I look forward to reading more of her works.
Nell is 26 years old and has never been to Paris. Normally not one for making impulsive decisions, Nell decides to book a romantic weekend in Paris for herself and her boyfriend. But eh en her boyfriend doesn’t turn up for their romantic getaway, Nell decides to go on with her weekend alone probing to her friends that she can be adventurous and spontaneous.
This was a lovely, sweet story which was easy to read and was perfect for a train journey

Paris For One and Other Stories... what can I say?!
I ADORED Paris for One, I just wished there was more!
It had the meat and bones of a really good book. I couldn’t put it down and the characters were likeable and intriguing.
The Other Stories..... well that’s were I became a tad confused. Bouncing back and forth between stories and characters. There wasn’t any rhyme or reason. No consistency and to be honest even for short stories most were lacking the bones of a good story.
I’d definitely recommend Paris for One but skip the rest.
I love Jojo Moyes’ books and was keen to read this selection of short stories. I had already read ‘Paris for One’ as a Quick Read, but hadn’t read the other ones. I enjoyed the book, but as with short stories I’m always left wanting more as, for an author of this calibre a few pages is never enough. On the hand though, writing short stories and making them entertaining must be quick difficult, so thumbs up to the author in that respect.
An enjoyable read overall, although I did feel a little cheated that one of the stories had already been released.
I don't often read books that seem like they'll be very romance-based, but I was interested in this one. I love reading books of short stories because they're so easy to get through, and they're perfect if I don't have time to start a whole novel. So this was perfect as a lighthearted, quick read!
The stories were all great and entertaining. I'm not sure if this will be hugely memorable, but it was a great book to read out in the sun when I didn't want anything too heavy.
I don’t really enjoy short stories but I did think this one of the better collection of short stories I have read. JoJo Moyes kicks off the book with a great slightly longer story which is written if her excellent style which sets the tone for the rest of the book.
Easy read and enjoyable stories. A book to read on a lazy afternoon.
I originally read Paris for One about 2 years ago. I rated it 4 stars and I thought it was a good short story. I was impressed by the fact that it focused more on a connection between two people rather than force some kind of insta-love. I didn't enjoy it as much this time, I don't know if that is to do with the fact that my tastes have changed or because I wasn't reading it for the first time. I think it was the former and I do think my tastes have changed slightly, but I rated it 3.5 stars this time (which isn't that much of a change to the rating but my feelings towards it have definitely changed). So it is a cute story overall but kind of lacking. I found most of the other stories to be lacking too. I really enjoyed Holdups (I gave it a 4.5). That story was very entertaining and different, it was also a bit far-fetched but I indulged it. A Bird in the Hand was the second best, getting 4 stars from me but the rest were all very underwhelming. That is why this book amounted to 3 stars. I hate to be mean but it feels like a money grab to me.

"And yet something-perhaps an English predisposition not to appear rude, not to make a fuss, even if it does end up in your untimely murder-propels her forward."
"She is so good at saying it now, as if it happened to someone else entirely. Her voice even, light, as if it were the most insubstantial of facts. As if it hadn't smashed their existence into a million pieces, a falling meteor, radioactive for years afterward, scorching the earth."
If you love reading but think you don't have time for reading this is your ideal book. I had read Paris for One before but had no problem reading it again. Very pleasant read throughout, nothing too serious to keep you awake at night, some really delightful feel-good reading.
After having this book on my shelf for a long time I ended up losing interest on it so I won't be reading this one.
Paris for One and Other Stories by Jojo Moyes - 2 stars.
Let me start by saying I ADORE Jojo Moyes and this is the main reason I requested this ARC when I am not a fan of short stories. If anyone could whisk me away into another world with few words it would be Moyes, unfortunately even she could not make this happen.
Some of the short stories I didn't understand and others left me feeling "bleugh" or were very bland. Only one managed to capture my attention and draw me to the characters and that was 'Paris for one', however, even then it was like reading an excerpt for a book. It didn't feel like a completed story. I wanted more! If it was a full length book it could of been wonderful.
So I have learned, short stories are not for me regardless of the author and I would recommend sticking to completed novels if others feel the same.
Thanks to Netgalley for a free ARC in return for an honest review.
I have to be brutally honest I enjoyed the first story which is the longest but then I found the other stories too brief and not as interesting
If people like small short stories then this is the book for you
I prefer a full novel and so I love jojo moyles books normally I didn't find this as good
What a great idea for a novel. 50% one story, 50% lots of others. I think Moyes might be unparalleled in her ability to grab a reader and thrust them right into the centre of a narrative, no pretext or exposition required.
In just a few short pages she is able to take a reader right until the soul of her characters, where they discover the essence of that person. It’s a rare thing to see right into the heart of a person. Sure, you could argue that it works in a book because the characters aren’t real, but I wholeheartedly disagree. They are your mother, your sister, your best friend, your neighbour, the cranky old woman in the supermarket, the tired young parent in the library.
Moyes is so successful because she writes about us. These short stories are no different.
I would thoroughly recommend.
I absolutely loved reading this book, it was the perfect thing to snuggle up on a winters evening with. Each story was engaging and heart warming and I thoroughly recommend.
"Paris for One and Other Stories" by Jojo Moyes contains one novella and a few shorter stories. I'm actually not one for short stories, I prefer reading a full-length novel, but as I love Jojo Moyes, I decided to give it a go nonetheless. The novella "Paris for One" was unfortunately only average in my opinion, just like some of the other stories. I really, really loved "Honeymoon in Paris" and a few others were not bad as well. Overall it was okay, and it probably would have been a nice and short read, but since I was very busy the last weeks and didn't really find the time, it was dragging on a bit.
I would like to thank Netgalley, Penguin UK and Jojo Moyes for the free ebook edition of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I liked some of the stories in this, but others left me fairly cold. The title story is more of a novella and the others are definitely short stories, but that's often the way with collections like this. The writing is lovely, even if I wasn't always loving the characters. A pleasant way to pass some time.
JoJo Moyes is one of those authors that I will always pick up, always buy and always recommend and I am NEVER disappointed.
As much as I love JoJo Moyes, I just have to admit that this collection of short stories is a bit of a disappointment. The plots are predictable. There are no obvious themes between the stories. And the writing style resembles that of my peers in GCSE English Literature. I don’t think I will be recommending this to anyone as a result.
This was a lovely holiday read - shorter than many of Moyes' other books as it is a collection of short stories all connected to Paris. Each of them was charming in different ways and included interesting, though sometimes cliched characters.
