Love Jojo Moyes bu5 I do prefer a full book rather than short stories. Still good thoufh
I could not wait to get my hands on this. I absolutely adore JoJo Moyes books and a collection of short stories seemed like a perfect way to get more from one of my favourite authors. It's also perfect for those with short attention spans because each story is not overly long,
Paris for One was definitely my favourite from the book. When Nell arranges a trip to Paris with her flakey boyfriend it is pretty obvious that things will not go to plan. He promptly declares that he will meet her in Paris due to work commitments but it is obvious that he simply does not want to be there. For Nell, who rarely lives in the moment, she is devastated and decides that she will go home the next day, especially having found herself sharing a room with a stranger. However, Paris teaches her to live in the moment and seize life and love when it comes for you, all be it this is with the help of a handsome Parisien.
There are a range of other short stories but this one truly stuck with me and I would recommend this to fans of JoJo Moyes.
This is a book of short stories, two of them more novella length. It contains the following eleven tales: Paris for One, Between the Tweets, Love in the Afternoon, A Bird in the Hand, Crocodile Shoes, Holdups, Honeymoon in Paris, Last Year’s Coat, Thirteen Days with John C, Margot and The Christmas List.
They are stories about women and empowerment. They are also tales of love, desire and the imperfections of relationships.
Paris for One is all about Nell, a straight-laced shy young woman, who is stood up by her unreliable boyfriend. She ends up on a romantic trip to Paris by herself. Alone in a foreign country, dealing with an unknown language and the disappointment of not being important enough to her boyfriend for him to spend time with her in the city of romance.
It’s all about Nell discovering her inner mojo and comprehending that she is supposed to live life for herself and not in accordance with the expectations of others. Sometimes you have to take a risk and step outside of the box you yourself and others have put you in.
Moyes hits the right notes, and has the gift of gab and the gift of storytelling. Although emotions are laid bare and presented to the reader, which evokes a sense of empathy, there is also a strong layer of realism in the dialogue and scenarios. This stark contrast is what makes the stories relatable and memorable.
A book of short stories that are all quite different from each other; all very sweet, and some are quite laugh out loud funny. Well worth reading. Most of the stories are short enough to read one when you are having a quiet break from your daily routine
Paris for One. Jo Jo Moyes
An uplifting and heartwarming collection of short stories perfect for relaxing with.
A short book, it is none-the-less a good read either for dipping in and out of or reading straight through. The stories vary in length and subject but the common thread is that they all have a female character who is or becomes strong during the course of the story. Love and marriage is explored in all its guises and it is refreshing to find stories that are not just about young love and heartbreak but explore as well more mature and longer lasting relationships. Some of the stories made me laugh and some were poignant but all had a neat twist.
Paris for One is the first story and is charming and quirky showing how Nell transforms from a shy, under under confident girl with a disaster of a relationship to a vibrant and adventurous woman with all before her. The dual narrative in this one added depth. I love Paris and this story took me back there to revisit some of my favourite haunts. The other stories in the collection live up to expectation with variety, wit and charm.
Whether you are an avid reader of short stories or only read them occasionally this is a collection that is sure to engage.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
For some reason this wouldn't load correctly on my kindle, so I had to read it through kobo on my iPad, which meant it took me longer to get through as I find it more difficult to dip into on that device. Paris for One was a very good story and I loved that one. Some of the others were very good and overall very enjoyable to read, but there were a couple that I wasn't so keen on.
'Paris for One and Other Stories,' is a collection of eleven romantic shorts with JoJo Moyes the headline author and writer of the main title. Paris for One offers easy, light romantic reading and is my first outing with this author. I was highly anticipating that I would enjoy the writing style but unfortunately, for my personal taste, it was lacking the power in the prose to engage my attention or convincingly draw me into the story. I found myself disengaged from the characters and felt some elements were a little too convenient, perhaps a touch contrived rather than organically drawn from the narrative and sadly this affected my overall enjoyment of the piece.
'A Bird in the Hand,' is the stand out story for me and engaged my attention more than the others, however even this had a slight abrupt ending. I confess that I stopped reading after the seventh story, I may go back to the remaining romances when I need a romantic short over a lunch hour but at this stage I was finding the shorts to be of a similar ilk and not really working for my reading tastes.
NOTE: My rating is based on reading the first 7 of 11 short stories.
Jojo Moyes is a great writer and knows how to tell a story, however I don't think she's at her best with short stories. I wanted to love them but they were just okay. Other people seemed to have loved them so maybe I just don't get on with short stories.
This book is full of short stories which are enjoyable . Every storyline has a different theme with some twists. Loved this book and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
This is a collection of short stories which concern love, marriage and relationships for a wide variety of women at different stages in their lives. It is a book which I have dipped in and out of over a few months but found in each one, a strong female character to get to know. They are all fairly ordinary to the observer but of course, there is much more going on in their lives than often appears on the surface. There is pathos and humour in equal quantities and some touching moments.
For romance, the first story in the book, titles, Paris for One, has it in spades. Set in the romantic capital of Europe, you see the flavour of the city through Nell's eyes. When her boyfriend fails to turn up for her long dreamed of romantic weekend, she has to decide whether to stay on alone or go back home. Always one for safety first, can she finally take a risk? The final story, The Christmas List, sees a much older woman who has a sudden moment of clarity and who also has to decide whether to act on impulse and take a risk.
I enjoyed all the stories but particularly Honeymoon in Paris for its dual narrative of two women's lives, a century apart and also Last Year's Coat which was so relatable. This collection of stories has a real charm about it and is easy to read. You get a glimpse into people's lives and then you leave them. For readers who prefer a quick read, it is ideal.
In short: heartwarming, a little quirky and relatable.
Jo Jo Moyes never disappoints, always a good read. Really enjoyed this book the main character was just a joy.
To get to know. Would recommend this book ,it's a really good story.
Paris for One and Other Stories – Jojo Moyes

It’s been a really hectic few days for me which has meant a lot less time for reading this week. I’ve only had some short grabs of time to quickly pick up a book and dive in to a fictional world, there’s just been too much going on in the real one!
When you’re reading this, I shall be exploring the beautiful city of Paris on my first ever trip there. Ooh la la!
Why am I telling you this stuff? Well, both points are linked to this week’s book, Paris for One and Other Stories by Jojo Moyes. A perfect novella & collection of short stories for when your reading time is limited to tiny bursts of literary lushness and your mind is on a trip to the city of love!
I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m not usually a fan of the novella, even less so of the short story. As a reader I just find it a bit clunky and by the time I’ve got to know the characters the story is over. I always want more! This is purely personal preference, I know some folks adore this style. I am however, a massive Jojo Moyes fan, which combined with my lack of available reading time this week meant that I absolutely loved this collection. It was a perfect romantic choice for this week and I could happily finish a story in one of my little mini nuggets of reading time, thanks Netgalley!
The slightly longer main story about Nell’s first visit to Paris really got me in the mood for my own trip. It’s a lovely tale of empowerment, self-discovery and a swoony handsome French writer. The setting descriptions made me really excited to see the sights, taste the wine and fall in love! (Even if it’s just with the city and not necessarily my own rugged & creative French man…)
Some of the other shorter stories I enjoyed more than others, but overall this is a tidy little collection of romance to cwtch up with. Get your copy here, four cwtches!
I really like Jojo Moyes, and this is a really lovely collection of short stories.
Whether it’s one of her earliest novels, or a recent best seller, I always know I’ll enjoy any Jojo Moyes book I pick up – and Paris for One and Other Stories, a collection of short stories, doesn’t disappoint.
The majority of the book is taken up by “Paris For One,” more of a novella than a short story. With room for the story to grow, you really get a feel for the characters, and most of all Nell, who finds herself alone in Paris after her boyfriend fails to show up for their supposed romantic weekend away.
Eight other short stories make up the remainder of the book, and give us a tantalising glimpse into the lives of the women involved, taking what could be small moments and making them into something significant. The significance of a new coat, a new haircut, or a conversation in a taxi– Moyes manages to make an impact in the space of just a few pages.
For fans of Moyes, or simply anyone looking for an uplifting read, Paris For One is more than worth picking up.
A collection of 11 stories all revolving around love and life. They are a perfect collection of short stories where you can dip in and read just one or devour a few at a time! Each is short but sweet and illustrate modern life and the intricacies of marriage, romance and love with quite a few twists at the end. Lots of fun and easy to read.
I’ve read the title novella, Paris For One before as a stand-alone ebook and really enjoyed it.
Moyes fiction is not my usual sort of stuff, very chic-lit, frothy and girlie. No blood or huts or doorway to demonic realms. Sometimes I need to lift my head out of the blood and gore.
I had fun reading these stories. The best pieces are the novellas Paris For One and Honeymoon in Paris. Out of these my favourite was Honeymoon in Paris.
The other stories are very enjoyable especially A Bird In The Hand, Holdups and Thirteen Days With John C.
Not a huge fan of short stories but couldn't help but love these ones by Jojo Moyes
Enjoyed the story love how the author writes her books would recommend
This is a feel-good book with nine different stories that entertains from the beginning, leaving you with a warm hearted feeling. Sweet read and a nice palate cleanser after all the psychological thrillers out there.
I love Jojo Moyes books and this was no exception, I usually prefer a novel but did get into these short stories
