Really good book, great mix of characters which i read in a matter of days look forward to more books by this author.

This for me was an example where the blurb on Netgalley attracted me, but the book languished in my TBR pile for a year.
Well more fool me!
This book is a good old page turning mystery. Vicky gets caught doing something she shouldn’t have. Not a huge big thing but one that could have had consequences for her nice life as a teacher.
Her best friend Amber helps her. But is Amber really the friend Vicky thinks her to be?
This book had me gripped to the end and when I came to the end I wasn’t entirely sure who the real victim/bad person was.

A gripping tale of toxic female friendship gone awry, this is a really exciting and addictive story you will race through. One to watch for sure!

One Little Mistake has been on my Netgalley list for far too long, so I thought it was about time I read it. OH MY! What a tense and often uncomfortable read this is. In a good way, of course.
Vicky seems to have it all, a loving husband, three healthy children, a nice home, money, a good job..... but she doesn't seem to fully appreciate any of them. I didn't warm to Vicky until right at the end. She came across as spoilt and a bit self-centred to me. She puts her marriage at risk as well as her baby and lies to cover up it all up. Her biggest mistake, however, is confiding in her so called best friend, Amber. I didn't warm to Amber either. She had a really rough upbringing and feels that those she trusted failed her, which has obviously affected her mental health and life as a whole, but this doesn't condone her behaviour towards Vicky and her husband. I am amazed Vicky wasn't more wary of her sooner, but then Amber is a very manipulative character. I can totally understand why she would envy Vicky though, given her past.
This story builds in tension quite early on and doesn't let up. I was totally hooked. Having said that, at times I wasn't sure I wanted to carry on reading as I knew something awful was going to happen. I had to know though!
Brilliantly written!
I will be adding Emma Curtis's upcoming release to my wish list.
Many thanks to the author and publisher for my review copy via Netgalley.

Lots of twists with Amber as a character to hate !! Well worth a read. .

Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to have read this great offering. This book spoke to me personally because how many of us haven't made a mistake that you wish you could redo. A mistake you wish you could undo.
The book had me gripped until the end. Worth your time and your effort.

Vicky Seagrave leads a charmed life. Married, with three children, she is moving up in the world - a hectic, but beautiful existence. Until she makes one little mistake. The little mistake sets off a chain of events and barrage of changes that eventually threaten to destroy her life forever.
But does it?
Perhaps it’s the title of the book (and the fact that the title includes “: The gripping ebook Bestseller”) that set me up for this. But this was more than one little mistake. There was the initial action, then the failure to be honest about it. The reasons for the failures, and also the context of the mistake. All contributed to the outcome of the story, and any change in one of these could have resulted in a different outcome. And this annoyed me.
But I kept reading. So what did I like?
Well, the characters were great. Vicky, Tom, Amber (Vicky’s best friend), the children, Vicky’s Mom, Amber’s husband. All were well constructed. They could be part of my family. The writing was good - lots of action and dialogue that moved the story forward. And it was entertaining. The story flipped between current day and a tragic account of a foster child too - but this was also good, and I enjoyed the tension.
However, it was Vicky who undid me completely. She just seemed unwilling/unable to fight hard for anything, even if she didn't see it coming (but we all did).
Sorry, I tried hard to like this book, but even though it was gripping, and memorable, I didn't.

An easy read but similar to so many in this genre. None of the characters appealed to me so that didn't help really.

This thriller starts off quite good then I lost interest halfway through. However the pace picked up again for the ending. So for me an unbalanced story. Vicky makes a serious mistake. She tells her best friend Amber. Ambers advise is to lie and when she does so begins the end of end of her happy life with Tom, her husband and their three children.

This review is written with thanks to Transworld Publishers and Netgalley for my copy of One Little Mistake.
Vicky Seagrave and Amber Collins have been best friends for years. When Vicky makes a mistake that risks everything she holds dear, including her husband and three children, she turns to Amber. But is Amber as trustworthy as Vicky believes?
One Little Mistake is set in two different time frames and told from several different viewpoints. In 2010, the reader is introduced to Vicky, in first person, and Amber, in third person. In 1992, Curtis tells the story of Katya, a young girl in a Young Offenders’ Institute. The two narratives helped Curtis to build tension, as I was intrigued by the way in which the two strands of the plot were connected. However, I did enjoy the sections set in 1992 more, as I found Katya’s character easier to connect with emotionally.
The differing narrative viewpoints allow the reader to get under the skins of Vicky and Amber. This helps them to consider what they would do in the same position. However, I found the different viewpoints difficult to follow in places, and this made it appear slightly disjointed.
Many of the reviews for One Little Mistake praise it for its ability to grip the reader and compel them. Although I felt that the novel did have this effect on me, I found that the plot only really gathered pace in the final third. For me, the first two-thirds seemed to drag slightly and the characters were not as intriguing as they could have been.
I moved One Little Mistake to the top of my “to be read” pile having seen a few brilliant reviews on social media this week. Personally, however, I finish reading with the feeling that although both characters and plot had potential, this was not fully achieved.

I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this book when I first started reading, but it reeled me in page by page, and I ended up about quarter of the way through totally hooked.
The writing is superb and the story is woven wonderfully. It's hard to believe this is a debut novel!

One Little Mistake can lead to a whole host of trouble !!A brilliant first book by Emma Curtis that had me reading well into the night.Vicky and Amber are best friends and do alot for each other and spend alot of time together with their families but is Amber the best friend Vicky thinks she is ? After Vicky makes one little mistake her life begins to unravel and Vicky starts to find out Amber is not the friend she thought she was and when they all holiday in Spain together Vicky is left in no doubt about how far Amber will go to ruin her life. While in Spain Maggie,Vicky's mum turns up and the tension in the book increases as secrets and lies are revealed.A superb 5 star read and i would highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy this genre.A great first novel from Emma Curtis.

First of all I would like to thank Netgalley for the free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was absolutely immersed in this story about a mother of three who finds her life slowly spiralling out of control after one little mistake…
Meet the Seagrave Family, father Tom, mother Vicky and their 3 young children Emily, Polly and baby Josh.
They live in a nice house in London, both mum and dad have a career, and family life keeps them busy.
Being a wife and working mum of small children myself I could instantly relate.
Main character Vicky Seagrave is easy to like and some of the situations that are described are all to familiar.
The friendship Vicky shares with Amber almost seems to good to be true.
The two know everything about each other (or so they think).
Vicky is more than comfortable confiding in her friend. She know’s Amber will never judge or betray her.
Similar enough Vicky is there for Amber and her family. They hold the keys to each others house, babysit for each other's children, share meals and spent Holidays together... Yet things slowly start to change when a poor error in judgement gets Vicky’s son in a hazardous situation. Vicky is left both embarrassed and guilt ridden.
Amber being a witness to it all prevents her from coming clean about it, stating that it is in Vicky’s best interest
to keep silent about what really happened.
And so it goes, daily life resumes but when Vicky let's other things slip as well Amber's loyalty to her friend starts to fade. It seems as if Vicky takes everything she has for granted not caring about her family the way she should, she's just never satisfied. At least that's how Amber sees it and she's done playing along, rescuing and covering for Vicky. She matters too, she would change places with Vicky in a heartbeat... living in that gorgeous house of them, being married to Tom whom she has a huge attraction for. Vicky has no idea how lucky she is. When Vicky has put her mind to buying a dilapidated but amazing old property that Amber's boss is selling something snaps with Amber. She's green with envy. Why should Vicky always get what she wants,. It's time the tables turn.
What 's so great about this novel is how the growing feeling of unease between the two women is being described, it' happens gradually but is really tangible. The second story line in the book adds a great new dimension to the story.
It provides a lot of psychological insight making the reader understand where behaviour and actions are coming from. It's also heart-breaking.
All in all I'm hugely impressed by this debut and would deffinately recommend this thought provoking suspenseful (thrillerish) novel to anybody looking for a riveting read.

A book that needs to be read and read, you just cannot put it down when you start reading. Very well written, gripping. It is so easy to get to know the characters and situation.
Not in anyway a disappointment, look forward to reading more from Emma Curtis.
This will be added to our next recommended books blog post when published

We got off on the wrong foot, One Little Mistake and me.
From the first chapters, I was shaking my head in disbelief and I might have sworn a little. I knew there would be a mistake, yes, I read the titles of books I request! But I wasn't expecting this! The woman in me was fast to judge, maybe too fast, as I have never faced the same kind of situation, but I did not warm to the main character at first because of her choice, and what I saw as a selfish decision of a bored wife with nothing to complain about. That was the thing. Vicky "had it all", and when you do, you better be careful who you surround yourself with. But let's be honest, we are not all paranoid robots putting up walls around us and it's a normal reaction to guilt to want to talk about your mistake with someone, especially your best friend.
But then, my mind slowly changed and I almost “forgot” the mistake to focus on the domino effect it created, ending it with a bam I was definitely not expecting! I loved seeing the hints, suspecting, being trapped in this suburban life and its friendships, its confidence, its habits, and I adored seeing everything fall apart one by one. I was torn, I wanted to scream at one character to stop being so naive, I feared another character's every move and reaction, sensing there was more than a nice face and a comforting shoulder to them, I wanted to hug Vicky and tell her we all make mistakes, because we do. And it might sound very sadistic but I enjoy this kind of stories where everything unfolds and all you can do is watch the house of cards be blown away by a single decision. There is no “one single mistake” here, there's an avalanche of them, and you get eaten away by the addition of them all.
When you look at those nice houses and smiling faces, you don't expect tension, but gosh you can feel it creep into the neighborhood and claws its way into the characters lives!!
The writing flowed easily, the characterization gave enough so you could create pictures of everyone in your head and every page made me reconsider what I had assumed about each of them. One Little Mistake is a strong read that gets you hooked from the start and appeal to your senses and morality without leaving you a chance to put the book down!

Loved this book from the first page. Who hasn't made just one stupid mistake sometime in their life, but what Vicky does, leads to a devastating chain of events. Her best friend, Amber, seems too good to be true, and maybe she is! Read it, you'll love the twists and turns, and discover the sadness and the hurt and pain that runs through the story. Great read!

I have just finished reading this brilliant book. It had my avid attention from the first to last page. One little mistake triggers such a catastrophic sequence of events. There is a perfect sense of underlying dread all the way through. I can't pinpoint it but I could feel it; perhaps it's as and when you find out what went before. There were mistakes all the way down the line. The book is sensitively written with credible characters. Vicky is a negligent, irresponsible mother of three young children because her mind is elsewhere. She tries to cover up her wrongs. Amber is her best friend although she's hard to trust right from the beginning. Thank you for letting me read it. I shall post this on Amazon, Facebook and my blog.

A thought-provoking psychological thriller with great characters.

This book was very enjoyable, it had me hooked from the very start. Emma Curtis creates a nice loving cosy environment at the start then gradually smacks you upside your head with dose of cold hard, gritty and unnerving truths!!
There were parts of the book that made me very uncomfortable, but that's what they are there for and they are needed to establish the core of the story. This is not butterflies and pretty rainbow's book. The book had a splash of everything, romance, crime, and thriller. A trickle of topics for everyone's literary taste buds.
I enjoyed the characters in the book, with my loyalty as a reader and spectator flip-flopping from one to another, at the switch of a chapter change. I found the pace of the book perfect. I was never bored and I felt no need to skim read. I wanted to savour every well-written sentence.
One tiny little non-important fun fact I noticed was Emma Curtis's use of the phrase ~ frying meat and onions. It must be a favourite scent of Emma's as she uses it in three different places in the book.
I am hoping that this is going to be a series of books. There is so much more I want to know about the other characters in the book. Jenny, Magda for example, what goes on behind their closed doors after the events of Vicky and Amber!
Last but not least, my thoughts on the cover. I really think it fits in perfect with the story and gives nothing away.
So I encourage you to dive into this novel, One Little Mistake, is a refreshing read with lot's of thought provoking topics.

An excellent read, really enjoyed this book. The characters and background stories in particular were so utterly believable that it felt as if I was reading about people I know (whilst being really relieved that people I know don't behave like this...). But seriously, the whole idea of One Little Mistake is that a dodgy decision, taken in a moment of misjudgement, could so easily lead to the unravelling of a real person's world. That's what I took away from this. Bravo, Emma Curtis!
