DI Nikki Galena and DS Joseph Easter are called to the scene of a murder. A young woman has been badly treated and murdered and left in an old potato shed. The post mortem shows that she was held captive for a long period of time and abused after death.
Nikki’s team sets about learning her identity and searching for her killer. A detective from Darby, another county nearby, calls regarding an unsolved crime that matches their victim – they now have a serial. At the same time, a woman has escaped her captor. The detective and one of Nikki’s team meet up at the hospital.
And Freddie Carver is back in town from Spain. Is he involved with the women somehow? He sure is keeping himself under wraps. A major bad guy, why is he back in England?
There are occasional vignettes of a woman who is trapped in her house with unbearable pain. She is visited by a man who sometimes leaves her food and pain medication.
This is a very well written book. The characters are given backstories in depth and are believable. It is an exciting and thrilling journey. This is probably Joy Ellis’ best book yet. I am certainly waiting for the next in the series.
Thanking Netgalley and Joffe Books for forwarding to me a copy of this wonderful book to read.
Another one of Joy Ellis mystery novels featuring Nikki Galena and Joseph Easter as detectives trying to find missing young woman and stop a crime family . As usual the characters are likeable and well developed, the plot is interesting and lots of suspense to keep you reading.
I love this series of books. Great characters and always a good story line.
This is the 6th book in The Fens series and it did not disappoint. An intricate plot, plenty twists and an ending which leaves book 7 on the way! Good relationships within the team help to keep me interested in their private lives. A few surprises in this book.I really enjoy this series of books and can recommend to anyone who enjoys police procedurals and thrillers. Many thanks to Net Galley for my copy I reviewed on Amazon and Goodreads.
Probably the best book in the DI Galena series so far, thankfully the author chose not to put a member of the police team into a life-threatening situation for a change.
The return of characters previously featured, although well explained would probably be best read as part of the series instead of a stand alone novel.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for a review copy of Captive On The Fens, the sixth police procedural to feature DI Nikki Galena and her team at Greenhaugh on the Fens.
A young woman's body is found in a disused shed on a remote fenland farm. The unidentified victim has been very badly treated before and after death and is missing her ring finger. This puzzles the team as the missing finger hints at kidnap but what kidnapper would hold his victim captive for 6 months? The case gets more complicated when they discover a similar death a year previously in Derbyshire. To add to their workload Freddie Carver, a big time villain, has been spotted out and about on their patch. The reader is presented with another problem, unknown to the police, as the novel is interspersed with the story of an unnamed woman imprisoned at a remote location. Who is she and what is her relevance?
This synopsis gives a flavour of another great read from Ms Ellis. The plotting excellent with plenty of detail and ramifications. It is very cleverly done and yet it is not difficult to follow or keep up with. Some of the results may come a little easily but that hardly matters as the team tick the box and move on to the next part of their investigation. It is all go with new developments in every chapter. The novel sets a fast pace and is extremely compulsive. I found it difficult to put it down.
The team, led by DI Nikki Galena, are hardworking and dedicated but Ms Ellis does not neglect their private lives so they appear well rounded and, by this stage in the series, almost like old friends. I like the camaraderie between the team members which adds a warmth the subject matter certainly doesn't.
I thoroughly enjoyed Captive On The Fens and have no hesitation in recommending it as a good, exhilarating read.
Di Nikki Galena and DS Joseph Easter are at it again. They are called out to a body of a young lady in a remote area who has been dead for awhile and has a finger missing. This resembles a young lady found ahile ago in another area. What is happening here? Also looking for really bad guy Freddie Carver and though they have looked for him for awhile it looks like he is involved with the young ladies missing or found. Along the way many other things are going on to keep the detectives busy. An excellent read as have all of her books in this series.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review this book. I have the previous books on my Kindle which I purchased from Amazon and I am keen to read these books in order so will be giving my feedback shortly. Hope this is ok.
Great book. Will read others in this series. Can't wait for next one.
Another awesome instalment in the Fens series by Joy Ellis. I really enjoyed this, the characters are like old friends and the plot was interesting and kept me engaged all the way through the book. Can't wait for the next one! A solid 5 out of 5.
Captive On The Fens by joy Ellis is a mystery and thriller read.
A young woman’s body is found in a remote barn on the Fens. Before she was killed, one of her fingers had been cut off. Who is inflicting this violence and why? And can DI Nikki Galena stop them before anyone else suffers?
Full of twists and turns, this is a crime thriller that will keep you turning the pages until the heart-stopping ending.
The young woman in the barn had been kept captive for some time. And the case shows strong similarities to an unsolved murder in Derbyshire. When another woman is found alive with similar injuries the case grows even more complicated.
At the same time, the Fenland police have received intelligence that the ruthless criminal Freddy Carver plans to make Greenborough the hub for his new enterprise. DI Nikki Galena is desperate to track down Freddie Carver and make sure that he does not put down roots in the Fens, but finding him is not easy. And what’s his connection to the kidnapped girls?
And who is the woman being held captive in a remote location? DI Nikki Galena must rally her team of detectives, while facing a traitor on the inside, in this captivating mystery which will have you gripped as Nikki races against time to save more than one victim, including someone she care deeply about.
