“Lost For Words” is an absolutely charming book with a bit of an edge. The lead character is Loveday who is shy and introverted but we find out during the course of the book that she has good reason to be. However, she loves her job - she works in a second hand bookshop and her boss is a wacky but ultimately loving character who has the utmost faith in Loveday. However, when Loveday picks up a poetry book in the street and goes about trying to find it’s owner, it results in her slowly changing and having to confront her past.
I really loved this book. Loveday is a great character who I identified with and I really enjoyed how she speaks to the reader. I also liked the other characters and felt that the plot developed well with the drip feed of information about Loveday’s past. And the darker parts of that past were handled sensitively.
I would thoroughly recommend this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
What a wonderful story, with layers of uncovering in the life of Loveday, all centred around a bookshop. The characters felt quirky but authentic and I loved the timejumps tied to book categories - poetry, history, crime. Lovely.
What an odd little book. I'm not sure if I liked it it or if it missed the mark ever so slightly. It definitely wasn't what I expected.
A lovely gentle book about a girl called Loveday Cardew who runs a bookshop, perfect for book lovers to dive into. A great character who you cannot fail to fall in love with and wait to see how the rest of the book unfolds. A great winter's evening read.
This is a nice book, well written and entertaining. For me just a bit too nice and predictable with and an overly schmaltzy ending. But I did enjoy it and can see why others loved it.
A really lovely and easy read I would recommend to anyone who loves books about books or Up Lit. It reminded me a lot of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine in the sense that Loveday has a complex back story.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.
There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.
An emotional and heart felt read all about books and the impact they can have in our lives. I really enjoyed reading this
This book was somewhat slow and uneventful. I not sure it was me It had a few great elements but didnt leave me hooked unfortunately I just found it slow The ended was left open this was not my kind of book it well written but did not grap me like most books do
I was lost for words with how to write this mini review. Stephanie writes so beautifully and leaves your heart red raw. This book is full of emotion and has you diving into your inner self. I loved it and I know everyone else will too.
I picked this book because it sounded sooooo interesting, however somehow it failed to fully deliver for me. I also felt from the cover and the blurb that it would go one way, but it went the other way and it was a much darker topic than I was expecting. I always tend to struggle reading about books featuring survivors of domestic abuse as they're not always done well and I think this may be one of them...
A great story about the love of books and family. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy.
Really enjoyable read. Good characters and a Good story. Well worth a read. Think others will enjoy.
I read this after loving Ailsa Rae and I wasn’t disappointed. (I tend to do everything in the wrong order!) Sweet and satisfying. Recommend!
"A bookshop is not magic, but it can steal away your heart. A bookshop is not magic, but it can slowly heal your heart."
This is a lovely character-driven novel set in the eponymous second-hand bookshop in York, England.
Loveday Jenna Cardew has worked there since she was fifteen, when the owner Archie caught her trying to sneak out with a copy of her favorite book, Possession.
I didn't care for this book. I found the characters didn't interest me and I ended up not finishing the book.
You can trust a book to keep your secret . . .
Loveday Cardew prefers books to people. If you look closely, you might glimpse the first lines of the novels she loves most tattooed on her skin. But there are things she'll never show you.
Fifteen years ago Loveday lost all she knew and loved in one unspeakable night. Now, she finds refuge in the unique little York bookshop where she works.
Everything is about to change for Loveday. Someone knows about her past. Someone is trying to send her a message. And she can't hide any longer.
Lost for Words is a compelling, irresistible and heart-rending novel, with the emotional intensity of The Shock of the Fall and all the charm of The Little Paris Bookshop and 84 Charing Cross Road.
A quaint little read and I was able to get lost in this book for a few hours. Very charming little story and I can't wait to read more from this author.
Love!
This new series by MCD got me hooked in right from the beginning. I love the Amplifier and her strength. But as Emma, she’s become something so much more. More human, more womanly, more strong, more empathetic and just more.
I can’t wait for the next book.
Oh, and btw, Paisley is amazeballs!
I enjoyed this book. Nice easy read . Different to a normal chic-lit which is what I was expecting from the cover. Really warmed to the main character and her lovely boss. Recommended read.
