Emilie has just split from her boyfriend, who stole her Venice assignment job. Her friend Alice persuades Emilie to take the job in Cornwall as a food photographer for Lucinda, who is a famous TV chef. Emilie and Alice go to Cornwall in a camper van, which Emilie didn't expect. The first day of work didn't go as planned, but Lucinda gave Emilie another chance and girls decide to go at a beach party. At the party Emilie meets Matt, with whom she feels a connection. When the party was over Alice accidentally breaks her ankle and she's no longer able to drive Emilie. Alice suggests that Matt could help with the driving and that's where the real Cornish adventure starts. 
It's a great book with great humor and realistic characters. I enjoy the author's writing style and I'll definitely be picking up more books in the future.

A little bit of cookery, a haphazard photographer, an exacting client and the beauty of Cornwall combine with some amusing characters to bring a warm and enjoyable tale.

This book evokes both a look behind the scenes at the making of a recipe book (think Mary Berry but with attitude) and the magic of a Cornish road trip (although amusingly in a VW camper van named the Satsuma!)

An enjoyable read, chosen as my eldest is on a school trip to... Cornwall of course! Another good read from Daisy James.

This was a truly delicious novel that was a delight to read. Emilie is a professional photographer who specializes in taking images of food - she even has a unique eye for staging a shoot. She has lost confidence in her ability to do either job after a rather nasty relationship with another photographer has left her feeling less than successful in her career path. Ben has even stolen her latest job from her - one she had spent considerable time researching - scampering off to Venice with her best camera to photograph Italian cuisine.
At a bit of a loose end, Emilie allows herself to be convinced to go on a road trip with her friend Alice an expert stylist to photograph Lucinda Carlton-Rose's latest cookbook - desserts, cookies, cakes and pastries found all around Cornwall. Within 24 hours all hell has broken out as Alice injures herself and Emilie is left to do the job on her own - facing a crisis in confidence, a demanding chef and a campervan that won't drive itself. Enter stage left Matt Ashby, windswept blonde surfer, who is quick to step into the driving role and also into Emilie's heart.
This is such a super story - you just want to wrap Emilie up in a great big hug and make sure she is going to be alright. The food and drink leap off the page and I definitely have put Cornwall on my places I must visit before I die. Lucinda's right-hand man, Marcus, was an absolute crack-up and added just the right amount of frosting to the story. The little details of the places that Emilie and Matt found themselves in create such lovely pictures for the reader.
This was an all-around good read - I really like the ending - it didn't come easily for Emilie but it was well worth the trip. Can't wait to read anything else Daisy James creates because every minute of reading this story was worth it.

Charming chicklit- it's light, it's funny, it's got a big heart. Emilie is wobbly after her breakup (rotten rotten Brad) but the situation, which seems so bleak, vastly improves when she gets to Cornwall, despite the challenges she faces there. Her romantic dance with Matt is well done. This is a perfect escapist read when you just need a happy ending. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

When shoot organiser Alice is injured and forced to head back home, it's up to Emilie to take charge. She's never organised a shoot before, and the overbearing Lucinda could make her new mission the most challenging yet. Having already lost confidence in her abilities due to Brad, the Lucinda Loves shoot will make Emilie prove her worth. But on the plus side, there's Matt, who has agreed to be her driver for the rest of the tour.

There's Something About Cornwall is a lovely, feel-good book packed with romance, adventure, ambition and laughs. It's a wonderful summer ride through the Cornish coast, and with plenty of sweet desserts and drink too! I liked Emily from the beginning, and enjoyed seeing her grow as a character throughout the book, from self-doubts caused by her ex's emotional bullying to a more confident, ambitious woman and friend. I don't want to go into too much here for fear of spoilers, but this is a wonderful story. If you're looking to get whisked away to sample the delights of Cornwall, this is the perfect read.

When Emilie catches her boyfriend Brad cheating on her she is gutted but things get a whole lot worse when he steals her dream job as food photographer in Venice! Instead she is off to Cornwall to photograph the food of Lucinda - who strikes terror into all photographers!

Starting out with her friend Alice they travel around the county in a bright orange camper van - Alice is super organised and has everything running like clockwork....but that can't last and when she can't continue with the trip Emilie has the surfing hunk Matt driving her around - I know which driver I would go for!

With a trip full of twists and comedy moments this is a great fun book - perfect for the beach and will keep you amused in sunshine

OK, can someone please bring me a giant scone with clotted cream and jam and at least ten Cornish pasties, ooh and a fresh pot of tea? Really? Pretty please? Like stat? :p

How gorgeous is this book? If you have read it, you know it's plenty gorgeous and if you haven't read it yet, then why? and you must do so...now!!! To put it quite simply, I just loved this book. It made me happy. I think Daisy James created such positivity and happiness through her writing that made 'There's Something about Cornwall' such a pleasant read.

In 'There's Something about Cornwall' we meet Emilie, a food photographer, who is feeling rather down and out and lacking self esteem, after her boyfriend steals her dream job right from underneath her. She had dreamt of going to Venice and taking pictures of the incredible food and stunning canals, but it isn't meant to be. Instead, her best friend suckers her into a two week road trip along the Cornish coast to work under the demands of terrifying celebrity baker Lucinda Carlton Rose, or more commonly known as 'The devil who wears an apron', where she will be travelling...and sleeping, in a neon orange mini camper van. No boyfriend, no confidence and no idea of what she has quite got herself in to, her adventure begins.

I loved the concept of travelling to different parts of Cornwall to photograph each dessert for Lucinda's cookbook, all of which would be different and represent a food from that specific place. This hooked me straight away and I was excited to read about all the different baked goods. However, though I may have been excited, our leading lady wasn't so thrilled. Upon the first shoot, Emilie, is more a ball of nerves and a clumsy mess than giddy about the task at hand. And let's just say her first encounter with Lucinda doesn't go quite so smoothly and after one day she already wants to go home. Her best friend, Alice, has her back though. Alice is the set stylist and organizer extraordinaire. She also happens to know how to be carefree and let go when it comes to partying with hot surfer dudes. She wants Emilie to have fun and start getting her confidence back. Alice has all the faith in her that she is a brilliant photographer and wants Emilie to start believing in herself. I thought this was a really lovely touch to their friendship, it was definitely friendship goals. :) Unfortunately, things don't go so swimmingly at the beach party and disaster ensues, leaving Emilie to face evil Lucinda, a neon orange camper van and narrow bendy Cornish roads, all by herself.

Ok, well, not exactly by herself. I may have forgotten to mention a certain, sweet as can be, surfer dude by the name of Matt Ashby, who is more than happy to take the wheel and join Emilie on her Cornish adventure. And, yes, Matt will have you swooning. I told you, you need to be reading this book now! :p This might sound a little odd but I truly felt like I was reading this book in colour, like the places, the adventure, the food and the people just bounced of the pages in a bright, bold vision. Kind of like the darling front cover, but I could see that throughout the book. Have I lost you or are you with me? It's just that I adored the camper van, first and foremost, and very much wanted to hop in and tag along with Emilie and Matt. I could see the cozy interior and hear the sound it made when it took off. Maybe it's because I have dreamt of owning my own little VW Bug for the longest time, but reading about it made me smile. Secondly, Baking Queen, Lucinda Carlton Rose was a wonderful character, I could picture her makeup, her outfits and even how she baked. I loved the layers Daisy added to her and I loved how strong of a women she was. I loved that I got to experience learning about her with Emilie. Lucinda is a go getter, a business women and she inspired me just as much as she inspired Emilie. I was happy that their relationship blossomed and was rooting for it. Emilie needed that. :) Thirdly, the character of Matt was a dream. I don't think I can say one bad thing about him. I adored his kind nature, his positive attitude and his desire to wake up and seize each day. He is also, so caring and, uh, yes, I just loved him. Fourthly, can I please, please, please have one of everything Lucinda makes in this book delivered to my door now. Ooh my mouth watered at the description of every treat, from the Apple and Caramel loaf to the Cornish Cheesecake and Caramel Glazed Pears. I felt so inspired to get in the kitchen and bake, it was simply wonderful for a foodie like me. And last but not least, what a lovely character Emilie was. I felt like I could relate to her from the get go. Her insecurities and vulnerability made her incredibly heartwarming and I could associate with not always feel confident in your skills. I've definitely had those embarrassing moments when trying your absolute hardest or not quite knowing where to stand or how to speak to someone, so I loved her from the beginning. I also, felt like she had a spark to her, that she really wanted to be the person she had in her head, she was driven and she was creative, she just needed that little boost. I enjoyed seeing her relationship with Matt grow and I loved that he could be that source of support for her. Furthermore, I felt inspired by her photography when thinking about what photos to take for our blog. Now if I could just get my hands on a VW Bug... :p

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an inspiring, happy read. So, go get yourself a copy of 'There's Something about Cornwall' now! :)

A really enjoyable read, difficult to put down. Emilie's unusual occupation of being a food photographer makes an interesting change . Yes, the ending is predictable, but never the less, I really enjoyed the book.

Emilie has been coerced by her friend and food stylist Alice to put aside her frustrations, hurt feelings and fears and join her on a road trip to shoot a prestigious cookbook with a famously difficult and talented chef. Disappointed because her ex finagled his way into a shoot in Italy, Emilie’s “specialty”, the change of work locations and still reeling from the after-effects of her ex boyfiend’s betrayals and demeaning manner, she’s reluctantly accepted, yet is planning for a disaster.

And her first day doesn’t disappoint: from Emilie’s tripping over a box to her own bemoaning her unsuitability, the first day was rough. Very rough. Lucinda is known for her perfectionism, tight timelines and expecting a smooth and hassle-free experience with each shoot. After her very clearly expressed doubts in Emilie’s skills and suitability for the work, which threw Emilie’s confidence even further down the chute. But. Alice being the uber-organized (bordering on obsessive) insists that each day will improve, and beside the wonderfully unique transport cum living space in the orange and yellow camper van that she’s organized, there is a beach party that is a “must see” as it’s the wrap party for the local surfers.

And here – the story flips. Alice goes down on the uneven ground in her heels, as the two leave the party in the wee hours. Along with Emilie’s plummeting self-esteem, her ex also robbed her of the willingness to take chances, or to step behind the wheel again. Needing to continue the shoot, despite having no idea of how she will manage it, a wild idea hit, and one that, unbeknownst to her, will prove to be the first of many life-changing events.

Matt is a surfer-bum, chasing the waves and new experiences in an attempt to put his old life behind him. Relentlessly positive and encouraging, he’s captivated by Emilie and intrigued by her job And, it doesn’t help that he’s attractive, so much so that Lucinda’s PA, Marcus was keenly interested, so he signs on to deliver Emilie to each location, and hoping to show her a bit of adventure along the way.

James pens a lovely story that shows the growth and rejuvenation that comes with confidence, the mistakes often made when judging or making assumptions at first encounter, and the need to let go and move forward, both to enhance your own life but honor the pieces you lost along the way. Emilie was always easy to relate to, even as she was so self-deprecating until Matt’s magic started to work its magic. With a real eye for capturing an image, Emilie had the talent, but her constant worst-case-scenario attitude needed to be checked frequently, and fortunately she got that bit of kick in the pants she needed to see the possibilities. Hard to put down, the trip through Cornwall and the various treats (baked and liquid) added plenty to my ‘must check this out” folder.

I struggled to get into this book and as it didn't grip me, it was quite a daunting prospect to think about finishing it! I will never abandon a book without finishing it and as i couldn't connect with this book it took me quite a while to finish it.

The story didn't really float my boat but i did like the locations in Cornwall and the food and wine references in the book were yummy! I couldn't really connect to the main character either, which was a shame as i really thought i would like her.

Having said all that, i found it really refreshing that the main characters were all female and that they drove all of the main story lines. They were all empowered career women and the age old - babies, husbands and happy ever after was not the main characters only desire. Hats off for that!

I would read more from this author.

Another gorgeous book from this highly talented author. I’m so impressed with how she can bring her characters and the setting vividly to life as I read her books. It explores lots of aspects of life - from betrayal to romance, losing and gaining in confidence, attitudes and reactions - whilst travelling around the beautiful Cornish countryside in a bright orange camper van!

The heroine, Emilie Roberts, is a photographer who was supposed to be off on her dream job in Venice . . . well that was the plan before she caught her so-called boyfriend, Brad, cheating and then he had the nerve to go bad mouth her to their boss and grab not only her dream assignment but took her prize camera with him! Instead of Venice, Emilie sets off to Cornwall to take photos offend created by television chef and perfectionist Lucinda Carlton-Rose as she tours the county creating delicious desserts in a variety of locations. Lucinda has a terrifying reputation from previous photographers who worked with her - one nicknamed her “The Devil wears an apron”! Fortunately Emilie will also be working with her friend, super organised Alice who has already sorted out the layouts to be used for each location and has all the props to be used with each shoot. It is Alice who has hired the camper van - which she has also nicknamed the Satsuma Splittle! Unfortunately life just doesn’t run smoothly for Emilie but sometimes that’s a sign of better things to come - well, you can always hope, can’t you?

When Alice is unable to continue on the tour, Emilie invites hunky surf instructor Matt Ashby to drive her between the venues. From this inauspicious beginning, there are so many laugh out loud moments on their delicious journey. I loved how the characters true natures were gradually revealed as the story progressed, giving the reader the sensation of slowly getting to know them and their raison d'être. It is great how the author showed that sometimes there are great motivations for people’s apparent attitudes and behaviour - and that the facade people show to the world is just that, a facade, and they can be so different when you actually get to know them. It is a story of being brave enough to follow your dreams and aspirations, facing life and all it throws at you with a positive attitude and trying to achieve whilst enjoying life. I had a big grin when I read of the guest appearance of another of my favourite authors, TA Williams, in the story. I wasn’t so happy at Emilie’s reaction to someone else’s accident!

There are also plenty of twist and turns - and misunderstandings, too. Nothing is really straightforward but it is still another delicious, heartwarming romantic comedy that I thoroughly enjoyed - mind you, I’ve found that true for every novel I’ve read by this hugely talented author! If you’re looking for something to cheer you up and you enjoy romantic comedy, I highly recommend you look no further - go grab yourself a copy of this story to enjoy!

It was awful how much Emilie's confidence had taken a hit and I was willing her at the beginning to become more assertive. The chemistry that Emilie and Matt share is great and kept me interested in the story as they travel around Cornwall. It was nice to see their friendship build and there was also the added little bit of mystery surrounding Matt's past.

Now Lucinda is an interesting character and to begin with I think that it would be hard for anyone to like her. You never knew how she would react in certain situations and if Emilie's work would meet her very high standards. I loved the fact that as you get to know her you understand her character more and more.

It was lovely to hear all the gorgeous descriptions of Cornwall, I have never been before but it is one of the places I would love to visit. This book brings everything to life especially with all the talk of yummy food. I have always loved camper vans so the addition of the "Satsuma Splittie" makes everything even more perfect!

I really enjoyed the fact that Emilie was a photographer and it was interesting to see how she went about her work. The interactions with Marcus on the photography shoots were always fun to read as he had a naturally exuberant personality.

I have to mention the appearance of a wonderful author whose books I love to read. It was a lovely addition to the book!

Light hearted and fun at times the story moves along at a lovely pace it really helped get me into a summery mood!

With a beautiful friendship, a sprinkling of romance and the addition of a camper van what more could I want!

Emilie has been through a lot and even though it all brought her down, specially her self-esteem, a trip to Cornwall might help her rebuild herself with help of Matt Ashby, surfing instructor and knight in a shiny camper van.

My favorite character will probably have to be Emilie, she's funny and even though she's been hurt she still takes one for the team which is nice and strong of her. Emilie and Matt are just so cute and fun together, he's very supporting and caring yet he helps her into trying to get out of her comfort zone and into the world again.

There's Something About Cornwall is a very nice, light, sort of 'in-between' read. I would pick it up once I had finished a big fulfilling read that I need to get my mind off just to be able to start another big read and refresh my mind from my previous book. I personally really liked it, I love me some cute light romance, so this book was right up my alley. Specially now with spring and summer
coming up. It might be worth giving it a try.

In January I started a new job and getting into the routine has definitely taken its toll. Because of that, I wanted a read that was lighthearted and fluffy, something fun that would entertain me without being heavy. Enter There’s Something About Cornwall. Seriously, one look at that gorgeous cover and I was intrigued – and I’m thrilled to say its insides were even better!

I really don’t have much to say about this one and that’s not a bad thing! It was exactly the kind of book I was looking for with lots of fun moments, a rom-com plot, and a sweet romance. The book even scored bonus points for using the term Poirotesque – y’all know I love me some Agatha Christie! When it comes down to it, There’s Something About Cornwall was one of those ‘right book at the right time’ kind of reads and I enjoyed it to the point where I would love to read more of Daisy James’ work!

Absolutely loved this charming feel good story. Daisy is a fabulous author.
The characters were enchanting.
It bought back some fond childhood memories.
There are plenty of laugh out loud moments, some hands over the eyes moments, some tender moments, and a whole lot of sizzle and desserts and a lot of alcohol along the way!!

The story begins with Emilie, a food photographer and her agreeing  to work alongside Alice on a Lucinda Loves food tour for a two -week assignment travelling from north to south Cornwall

Lucinda Carlton-Rose is one of the hottest TV chefs and cookery book writers in the story. So this is a huge deal for Emilie and could make her freelance career a huge success.

Reluctantly Emilie is persuaded to go, even though previous photographers have been terrified of working with Lucinda. One even referring to her as "The Devil Wears an Apron"

Emilie has just split up from Brad, and she's in need of a confidence boost. He stole her Venice job and put her photography work down at every opportunity. Alice sees this trip as a way to help Emilie regain her artistic flair and confidence.

However things don't quiet go to plan from day 1.

Alice picks up Emilie in a VW camper van.
Alice names it Satsuma Splittie! Love the name it made me giggle.
 This made me laugh so much as Emilie was expecting an all expense paid Trip in hotels/b&b not a VW!
Unfortunately she has to go along with it or they will be late.

The first photo shoot had me in stitches, what could go wrong did go wrong. The setting wasn't right, she got on the wrong side of Lucinda and she managed to fall over taking the biscuits with her LOL
Luckily for her Lucinda didn't sack her and gave her another chance.

Alice and Emilie decide to go to a beach party after the shoot. They both have lil too much to drink.
Its here Emilie meets the mysterious and sexy Matt.
Emilie has just spilt up from her jerk of a boyfriend Brad, so is enjoying the attention.

As the evening goes on, Disaster strikes when Alice hurts herself and breaks her ankle.
They rush her to hospital but unfortunately she is unable to continue the trip.
She persuaded Emilie to ask Matt to accompany her on the trip to drive the VW as she isn't a confident driver.

It's here the journey really begins. An adventure of friendship, new beginnings, love, yummy food and a whole lot of alcohol all in the company of the sexy Matt and their VW Satsuma Splittie.

I loved Emilie and Matt. They were so supportive of each other's needs, their friendship blossoms.
After all Matt is a stranger. What's he holding back from Emilie?
Why is he running away from hes past?
Matt bought out Emilie's artistic flair and her confidence blossomed.

Lucinda, I had a love / hate relationship with her.
At first I loathed her and thought she was a stuck up Diva. But as the story progresses I warmed to her and realised she was just a perfectionist who strived for the very best.
Inside that steely exterior, was a kind warm heart.

This book is the complete package, it has something for everyone.
A little romance, humour, sass, sadness, foodie desserts and alcohol, friendship and a VW.

I believe Daisy's main message in the book is follow your dreams and never give up hope!

It's a quick read, page Turner and plenty of action.

I urge people to read this gem of a book.
You won't be disappointed!

2.75 Hearts I had the hardest time with this book. First the author has an odd way of writing. There are typical lines that I assume sounded odd because of it being Brit-Lit but there is more. There are a lot of $5 words that could have been written in normal every day verbiage.

Then there is Emilie who I just never found that I liked. Her confidence is really low because of the breakup with her boyfriend but when Matt comes into her life there just seems to be too much about her ex for me. Then there is the background characters which, again, I just didn’t enjoy.

As I said I had the hardest time with this story. There could have been a number of reason but it really just comes down to “it wasn’t my kind of book”.

This was a good light hearted read which took us on a journey through Cornwall’s towns with visits to hotels and microbreweries, with lovely descriptions of all the desserts which Cornwall is famous for. A very enjoyable book with a lovely ending.

"There's Something About Cornwall' is a chick lit novel about betrayal , trust issues, food, photography and love. The book seemed too predictable and not deep enough. You could guess most of the plot right away. The only thing that kept me interested was surfing hunk (even tough his character could have been more real as a person and more active as far as speaking is concerned) and Cornwall. As a huge fan of Cornwall I followed their road trip with interest.

Scenery lovers and foodies will be in heaven with this fantastic new book from Daisy James. It combines a road trip around the county of Cornwall, with little artisan industries, gorgeous photography and as many Cornish desserts as you can think of and more!

I say its a road trip, but let me be more precise, its more of a trip around Cornwall in a campervan, which is rather orange in colour! We do visit in a couple of weeks, a large number of towns around Cornwall, from Perranporth, to St Austell, to St Ives to Bodmin and more besides (and not in that order).

I loved seeing glimpses into all these great stunning places in and around Cornwall. I also loved Emilie's job as a food photographer, and seeing how she sets up these great photo shoots to make everything look fabulous.

In fact Emilie's confidence is a an all time low when she agrees to take the photos for Lucinda's new cookbook, and only really does it as a favour to her friend Alice. Her confidence was knocked in her most recent relationship, and the her ex also steals the dream job in Venice that she was determined to get.

Then there is the food itself which sounds gorgeous. What amuses me is that for a food photographer Emilie has an even worse diet than me. However like me she has an aversion to seafood, so I could completely sympathises with one restaurant she was persuaded to go to.

Almost forgot to mention Matt, the hot surfer dude who replaces Alice as Emilie's companion on the trip and who is one of my favourite characters. And there is also Marcus, Lucinda's long suffering PA, who loves a gossip and kept me greatly entertained every time he spoke. There is also a cameo in the book by another of HQ digital's authors, which amused me to see!

There's Something About Cornwall is perfect escapist romantic comedy, its a joy to read, and I loved every second. It's easy to follow and with each book Daisy James is becoming more of a must read author for me, for when I just want to relax with a book, and ignore the world around me for a few hours.
