There's Something About Cornwall is a sweet and fun chick lit novel that is certain to make readers want to take a road trip themselves! I loved the journey and felt instantly connected with the heroine of the story - she is a girl after my own heart - and found the mishaps and misadventures to be utterly hilarious! Daisy James is quickly becoming my "go to" chick lit author when I am in need of a lighthearted, fun, and adventurous read.
Overall, this book is highly enjoyable and imaginative (I felt like I was there with the characters) and I can't wait to see what Daisy James comes up with next!
Lovely book. great location and sounded idylic. great characters and storyline. loved reading this one
Thank you Netgalley. This book is based on the main character called Emilie who is a food photographer and does a tour of Cornwall instead of Venice. Emilie has come out of a bad relationship and has lost all her confidence. Great read.
Hello, I have to admit i wasn't keen on this book, there was a few parts that didn't add up, main one being our lead character couldn't drive yet next chapter she could. The romantic liason with Brad was just to predictable.
A beautiful read thatl get you in the mood to take a trip to Cornwall.
The book is based on a character called Emilie. Emilie is a food photographer has just came out of a bad relationship and her ex stealing her dream of heading to Italy to work. So instead Emilie is persuaded by her best friend Alice to take an assignment in Cornwall.
Unfortunately after an accident at a party the first day Alice can no longer work on the trip with Emilie. So Emilie finds herself taking on Alice's role at designing the set where the photography is taking place along with taking the photos. Emilie is also left without someone to drive the satsuma splittie as she wont drive.
After hitting it off with a guy from the beach party she finds herself her own knight in shining armour as Matt agrees to accompany her on the trip and drive for her and she finds herself falling deeply in love with him.
Theres lots of unexpected problems that creap up for Emilie throughout the book and as a reader it leaves you in suspense as to how its going to go for Emilie.
A fantastic ending showing us that dreams can come true and we all deserve a happy ever after.
On a final note id like to point out that this book has an absolutely stunning cover, so bright and eye catching.
A great light hearted, easy to read romance.
Emilie Roberts may be an up and coming food photographer, one who can make anything look tasty, but she appears to have crappy taste in men. Her boyfriend cheated on her and stole her dream assignment in Venice. Now, she has to make do with the Cornish coast. Still, things look up when she meets surfing instructor Matt Ashby. Maybe this assignment won’t be so bad after all. The beauty of the rugged Cornish coast brings this lovely little romance to life
This was a nice read about a food photographer named Lucinda from London who travels around Cornwall for a dessert photo shoot. She and one of her friends rent a camper van for the trip, but on the first night her friend is injured at a party by the beach. Lucinda asks a man she met and connected with named Matt to drive the van around Cornwall for her. Lucinda is recovering from a bad relationship and doesn't want to get involved, and Matt has own issues to deal with from the past.
I liked the descriptions of the Cornish scenery and the food very much. The different wineries and other beverage places Lucinda and Matt went to sounded fascinating. As far as the characters, I thought Lucinda was a little shallow and too obviously self-destructive. I got tired of her negative thinking. Matt's character was better drawn, but still predictable.
I did enjoy the book however, and it was a nice afternoon read. 3 1/2 stars.
Three and a half stars.
I loved this story about a young food photographer who is cheated out of the trip of a lifetime to Venice and instead gets to tour Cornwall with an exacting chef. Emilie has lost all confidence in herself as her ex-boyfriend Brad has gradually eroded it all away. Faced with a two week trip around Cornwall with a celebrity cook (Lucinda) known for her hard-ass attitude and staying in a camper van (instead of the cute B&Bs and boutique hotels she imagined), Emilie is feeling hard done by until her colleague breaks an ankle, forcing her to rely on the laid back surfer dude Matt she has just met.
What I loved about this book? The imaginary tour of microbreweries, distilleries and vineyards mixed with hotels, pubs and B&Bs. I would totally love spending two weeks doing this tour of restaurants and artisan alcohol producers.
What I didn't like? The author (in my opinion) felt a need to use too many big words. This was a simple twenty-something trip-romance which kind of felt stilted at first due to too much verbiage. especially at the beginning I felt there was too much telling and not enough showing.paragraph after paragraph of comparison between Brad and Matt. Also, I think if you sit back and look at the character Lucinda it doesn't seem to hang together - why is she soooo nasty at the start?
Nevertheless, despite my misgivings at the beginning, I ripped through this novel. Once I got past the first third of the book the writing became less self-conscious and I started to engage with the characters. I do feel that the novel didn't need the manufactured tension- it didn't ring true to me - it was stronger without.
And yet, despite my negative comments I REALLY enjoyed reading this book and it makes you want to visit Cornwall and taste all these native desserts and drink all these artisan drinks.
