About Last Night by Catherine Alliot is a heartwarming story about a middle aged woman who is given the opportunity for a second chance at life. Widow Molly is living the apparent Good Life on a smallholding in rural Herefordshire although it is not her dream. When a distant relative of her late husband dies she is left with a posh London townhouse and is tempted to leave the good life for a new life. Potential romance and intrigue follow. A warm and funny story that will resonate with many women.

I always enjoy Catherine Alliott's books and this one was no exception. Well written likeable characters and a storyline that's enjoyable even if it is a little bit predictable.
This book gave me a nice break from my usual crime/thriller fiction. With lots of laugh out loud moments About Last Night is a fabulous lighthearted entertaining read.

I read My Husband Nest Door and expected to be in for a similar kind of hilarious treat. Although there are similarities (female between partners living in disorderly rural location) it was not at all as good.
Molly is the proudly shambolic widow keeping a farm going by selling doped animals, even a horse who is almost a pet, without even checking if the new owner is fit to have animals, cossetting some sheep and happily sending othes to slaughter
She copes with her teenage offspring by bribing when she has a £20 note and exploits her mother and friends when the kids are doing other things.
She is also remarkably slow witted. Both a decent suitor and a conman she misreads and doesn't even fall for the latter's ploy as fast as one would expect her to.
It's probably okay if you judge without expecting too much of it, having enjoyed a really good one by this author.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, quirky with moments of pure joy and laughter. A woman after my own heart I loved Molly, desperately trying to be chic and debonair while pulling off that wonderfully dreadful mutton/lamb look.
This was light and easy to read, a change from my usual genre but great fun.

So David wants to live the 'Good Life' and moves his family down to a small holding raising sheep and getting muddy and cold and wet and...

But he dies and leaves his widow without enough means to live on - she learns to be a sheep midwife; she learns to be a rather shady horse dealer; she sells sexy knickers by post and by every possible means tries to keep the bailiffs from her door. Luckily the main bailiff is her friend from the book club!

All the time a rather irritating vet hovers around telling Molly what she is doing wrong.

The main action however happens when Molly receives an unexpected inheritance and thinks about moving back to her old London life. And romance enters her life from an also unexpected source.

A feel good, jolly, amusing, enjoyable story of just how chaotic life a life can be, and how women cope when left in rather sticky circumstances through no fault of their own.

A great, good old RomCom! This will have you laughing out loud in places, yet also feeling achingly sorry for poor struggling Molly

Five years ago Molly and David Faulkener and their three children leave their life in London and move to the country to work on a farm. Not long after moving David died. Molly decides to stay on the farm but she is constantly short of money and Bing chased by her creditors.

This is a nicely written, funny story. It takes a few chapters for the story to start but once it it's a decent read.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Penguin UK - Michael Joseph and the author Catherine Alliot for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I adored this book. Absolutely brilliant. Couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end. A proper no holds barred love story with enough dead pan humour to make me laugh out loud on a very regular basis.

You're never too old to fall in love again and the heartache of separating lust from love can challenge any woman regardless of how experienced she is. Combine this with proper comedy, countryside, vets, mystic meg and grown up children and you have a recipe for a stunning success. I kept imagining throughout the book just how good the film version of this could be as well.

Thank you for entertaining me. so amazing well and with such aplomb. Read this book and fall in love it with, it's a stayer.

I am conflicted in my feelings about this novel.
I love the plot and the idea of a benevolent benefactor and the effect that has on a family.
The lightness of the narrative at times makes the story seem frivolous.

It's hard to say you enjoyed a book that features a seemingly endless catalogue of disasters - often self-inflicted - that befall the only occasionally likeable heroine, but the novel was engaging to read, and has several well-drawn secondary and peripheral characters.

Well I have just read the last line of this book, and it was bittersweet. It was such a fun read, and obviously it had to come to an end, but I genuinely will miss the characters! Molly is the kind of woman I want to be, dealing with every situation with humour and positivity! She's human. And she accepts that.

It made me laugh, it made me tear up and I really couldn't put it down. It gave me such a warm feeling. It's a departure from my usual genre but I'm so glad that I gave it a shot!

I was kindly sent a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This book started out with much promise, sadly it last its way soon after. I really wanted to like this, but found elements of the plot unbelievable at times. Have read plenty of Alliott's other books, so hopefully this is just a blip!

After the death of her husband, Molly struggles to keep their farm afloat. When a distant uncle dies leaving her his house in South Kensington, she decides to leave her financial troubles behind and move to London with her grown-up children. But her dreams of the glamorous bright lights of the city are complicated by her love life as she juggles a handsome artist, a charming Frenchman from her past, and a detestable veterinarian who drives her crazy.
Despite finding her sometimes annoying, I liked the character of Molly: she wasn’t a perfect wife, she isn’t a perfect mother, although she does her best. The unexpected inheritance goes to her head but it is clear that she is a good person at heart and as I read, I grew to like her more and more. I also really liked her three children who, despite being a bit spoilt and selfish, they really care and worry about their mother. As Molly tries to start her new life she gets herself in ridiculous and hilarious situations that made me laugh out aloud. Overall, this is a sparkling and enjoyable novel with a cast of likable and witty characters.

A good story to read. I really warmed to the characters and liked the fact that Molly's children 'grew up', even though I think it was probably unlikely that it would have been such a quick change in all 3 of them. The storyline was quite obvious but still enjoyable. I would have liked to have had a bit more of what happened next - did Molly sell the farm? It's the first book by Catherine Alliott that I have read and will be sure to read some of her others.

Initially I felt little empathy or sympathy with Molly, our main character. I find it hard to feel sorry for someone who is short of money to keep the horses or mend the outbuildings - why not sell up and move to a regular house?
I was glad I kept reading though, as the characters are fleshed out in full, and I did come to like Molly, though how anyone could put up with such selfish, lazy adult children is beyond my comprehension. I did empathise eventually, with her feeling frumpy and inappropriately dressed for the city.
Despite these short comings, I would recommend reading this book, if only because surely we'd all like a fairytale ending in our live So? And it is well written.

This was a really enjoyable romantic romp, very well written. Another excellent book by Catherine Alliott.

This book was such fun I didn't want it to end!

A bit predictable in places but it wasn't boring or frustrating. Alliott's quick wit and sense of humour is so similar to mine I pretty much laughed out loud for the duration, sometimes with tears streaming down my face - I certainly got some strange looks! My well-buried stomach muscles and cheek bones thank Catherine for their intense, but unfortunately swift workout! Don't get me wrong, this book isn't all amusement, there is some sadness sprinkled throughout.

It's been a long time since I had a rom-com/chick-lit phase however this has persuaded me that I need to dust off some of the previous Alliott paperbacks on my bulging shelves and indulge in my guilty pleasure.

Recommended to everyone!

Thanks to Penguin UK - Michael Joseph for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
This was a lighthearted and easy read, slightly humorous in places which made me smile. However for me, it lacked any real substance but that it is not to say I did not enjoy it for what it was.
