A good read it is the kind of book I would take on holiday to read under a parasol. It has everything family life, humour and life's bad bits that come back to bite. The main character Molly has parts of all women and sometimes it makes you wonder how we would manage life if put in hers. Enjoyed this book and look forward to Catherine Alliott's next book

Thank you Catherine and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review an advanced copy of is book.

Story telling at its best, having cheated on her husband the family moved lock stock and barrel from the heart of the city to the country in the name of forgiveness and fresh starts, Here comes the sad twist in the form of a tragic accident leaving her widowed very young. Molly wracked with guilt continues to live her husbands dream whilst struggling with debts, not knowing where to turn until she comes into a most unexpected windfall, which in itself brings unexpected twists.

Whilst Mollys children think she's having some kind of sex craved mid-life crisis, albeit mid-directed, she finally realises she has fallen in love with the local vet, someone whom she'd stood up years earlier... the question is does he return her feelings!

Lots of unexpected twists, sadness, humour, humility and down to earth family rivalry. Great read, I most definitely recommend it.

Some of the characters in this book were a bit two dimensional and difficult to emphasise with, in particular the main character Molly. My problem may partly be my lack of experience of any of the lifestyles described, although this does not usually prevent enjoyment of a book. The way that Molly behaved in some situations did not endear her to me and, at times, she seemed to be rather manic. I have enjoyed other books by Catherine Alliott but this one was a bit below par for me.

About Last Night by Catherine Alliott

This is such an unchallenging book and I mean that in a totally positive way. That is not to say it is uncomplicated, because Molly Faulkner’s life certainly isn’t. Five years ago Molly and her husband David and their three children abandoned London to live in the country – on a farm no less. Shortly thereafter David died leaving Molly to cope with chickens, sheep, horse and dogs and the children, but more importantly little money and a farm and land that was in constant need of attention.

Initially I was slightly concerned about Molly’s ability to keep all the balls in the air, and somewhat annoyed by what seemed to be her totally self-absorbed children although they too were not without charm.

So Alliott has given us a book about the Faulkners and it could be said that the end was fairly predictable but along the way we were treated to lots of twists and turns and an insight into Molly’s world of self-doubt and financial anxiety. I loved Molly and I loved Paddy, actually all the characters were well-drawn.

This is a thoroughly charming book, a real treat.

NetGalley provided an ARC of this book via my Kindle in return for an honest review.

A good , light, humorous read with a feel good factor built in. Molly , along with their 3children were uprooted to the countryside by her husband David to live his dream of the good Life". Unfortunately he died and left Molly trying to make ends meet through various means. An inheritance comes her way that could lead her back to her old way of life.
Will she leave her hand to mouth existence and chaotic lifestyle behind.? The story revolves around her dilemna with a farm full of aging animals;, 3 children who vacillate from needing mother's help to thinking they need to look after mother;, a whacky mother and various male love interests with equally varying intentions. The story is told with a wonderful blend of humour.
I thoroughly enjoyed this obvious 'chick lit' novel. A story with a beginning a middle and an end Albeit predictable.

I'm not going to review this as I don't have anything good to say so this is just feedback for you: the last time I read Alliott she was writing fun, cheeky, witty chick-lit but this feels like someone different. The story dawdles around, dips into an unnecessary back-story and only finally gets going at about halfway through with a Pride & Prejudice plotline. Just not worth the effort and filled with middle-aged people acting like teens - sorry!

Thanks Netgalley. Catherine Alliott is one of my favourite authors and this book did not disappoint. Her characters are great and there is such a huge mix of personalities.

The book is advertised as "The hilarious new novel from",which is why I requested it. I enjoyed the story, with the moments where as a reader you think 'No! dont do it' but in reality you know its pretty likely to happen that way too, however I was expecting something that would make me chuckle, or find humorous, and it didn't. Its a good book with a thoroughly readable story, the description just didn't fit.

This book started very slowly and I didn't think I would enjoy it, but when it picked up pace after a few chapters it became very enjoyable. When it was nearing the end I couldn't put it down and it ended before I was ready

I find it hard to review this book as I had such mixed feelings about it. At first, it felt like standard chick-lit that I'd read a thousand times before, but then it started to pick-up with a plot development about a legal document. It was just beginning to pick-up pace when it went downhill again. The main character wasn't particularly likeable, with shallow concerns about clothes and other people's money, and the ending was predictable and a bit trite. If you need an easy read for a long journey, this is the book for you. But if you want something slightly more challenging or gripping, I'd give it a miss.

It's been a while since I read a book I would describe as pure chick lit, and what a treat this was. A normal family, with teenagers/young adults who behaved like normal teenagers everywhere. Who felt they were the adults looking after their mum from time to time, which was amusing. I was glad to get to the reason the family moved from London to Herefordshire, as there was clearly a story behind it. Molly's chaotic lifestyle, trying to make ends meet was amusing but threw up issues of a family surviving when the main support died. It was pleasing to see her positive relationship with her own mother, who was a real character. The whole family had clearly embraced country living when they moved and weren't just making the best of the situation they found themselves in. I was willing Molly to come out on top from the start and was keen to get to then end to see what happened in her personal life. A good cast of supporting characters, and I'm sure we all realised before Molly did, what was staring her in the face romance wise. Unusual in a book to see a parent aware of their offspring's faults, which was refreshing. All in all a delightful read, and I'm very pleased to have had the chance to read an advance review copy.

I actually really enjoyed this. I don't often read women's fiction so I was taking a chance on this one. I'm really glad I did. This book was funny, emotional and really interesting. There were a few parts where I knew what was going to happen and kind of wanted the author to speed it up. But overall, the book was well written, very insightful and I would definitely recommend it.

reamed of moving from London to live somewhere less hectic and so him and wife Molly moved to Herefordshire to indulge in country life, including living on a lovely farm.
However, Molly has the London townhouse left to her after David passes away and so is swayed to go back to her preferred good life she loved before as she has lived out in the country for five years so far with the children and farm to keep along with her money struggles and bailiff's.
So when and Uncle passes away leaving the townhouse supposedly empty Molly's mum tempts her to go and look at least which ensues into finding a strange man living there now.

I like how the book flashes back to how David and Molly were before he passed and how the true events surrounding their countryside move came about around the issue of a certain person they knew being involved. It was admirable hpow they stuck together for the children involved.

I truly loved all the elements to this book and how you think your life is sorted until someone causes it all to change. Molly was a likeable character who cares deeply about her children and didn't come across badly for how her past could've changed her. It's a great chick lit from Catherine yet again. Thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review it.

An absolutely brilliant read with humour, romance and teenage angst. The main character was really easy to identify with and her romantic "mistakes" laughable. A fantastic page turner
