I found this to be a bit of a dreary look at retirement through the eyes of a husband and wife navigating spending too much time with each other.
It was a rather mundane existence and one I did not wish to endure with them, so gave up on it.
I am really sorry to say it, but I dodn't enjoy this book at all. When I started I really wanted to like it, I was ready to love it, but it was not what I wished it to be. I don't even think I had any expectations to begin with, since I don't mind being surprised, but by the end I thought even the title to be cringy. Too much bohemianism (I didn't know it's possible until now) in a book that deals with life can become unbearable. This book stands to show that people are awful beings and it just proves how age doesn't mean knowing better.
I did like something here, though: it's the part where a couple reaching retiring age has to make adjustments to their lives. The accommodation period, the changes, the challenges were very well represented here and I appreciated it. The fact that they chose to take all the wrong decisions is another topic.
A most unusual theme, very well written. Retirement portrayed in a very eye opening manner! Compelling reading, if just a little bizarre!
This was another DNF. The main characters, Peter and Emily did not interest me at all and the story was sooo slow.
Poignant and captivating, Poppy's Seed will be one of the most captivating books of 2017.
Thanks Netgalley and Publisher. I forget I had this book to review and could kick myself because it was a really good read and I loved the main characters
I found this to be an interesting concept on life after retirement.
A definitely different but shocking prospective, if you uproot when you retire from your employment and leave friends, job and any family.
eye- opener!

Poppy's Seed is a wonderfully refreshing new read to me. It's so rare to read a book about retiring couples, from what I understand from family it can be a really difficult time and this comes across in the book. I'm too young to identify with the main characters in this novel but it is written so very well, it is easy to almost place myself in their shoes. You are transported to their home in Lyme Regis and it's very hard to put the book down and leave!
I have already recommended to members of my family who can't wait to read it!
Peter and Emily struggle to settle into their new way of life once retired to Lyme Regis. However they both encounter an artist in the small town, who is about to affect both their lives. Although this book had somewhat of a slowish start, mainly with some necessary scene setting, it is worth it. The story begins to unfold and the well drawn and believable characters reveal themselves.
I found this a very enjoyable read with a believable and interesting storyline. Its also refreshing to read about book me cover 50 where the story is not about terminal illness, dementia or death!
Poppy's seed is an interesting book. Even if I found it not easy to read at the begInning, I liked the characters development through the story. The pace was good. I had an issues with the epilogue, because I think there's one character in particular that deserved more. There are some explicit scenes I'd have liked to be warned of, even when I can see they were necessary for the story. A good book generally speaking.
