I have only recently discovered this author but as I always say, better late than never! This is my second book of hers after The Girls so I have a fair bit of catching up still to do but I'll get there.
As with The Girls, I absolutely loved this book. It drew me in right from the start and didn't let go til long after I turned the final page.
There are three main threads running through the book. In the first one, Alice finds a man on the beach. He is just sitting there staring out to sea. He has no idea who he is or why he is there. Alice takes a chance on him, takes him into her home, looks after him, after all, he does come across as harmless. Maybe together they can work out who he is, and why he is there. In the second, many miles away, Lily's new husband is missing. When she reports his disappearance to the police they tell her he doesn't exist. And then we have 23 years ago. A family holiday at the beach ends in tragedy.
Obviously these things are connected, it'd be a pretty lame book if not, but the joy of this book is getting to the bottom of things, it's the journey not the destination that's important. And, believe me, it's a pretty great ride...
Characters for me are important. They can make or break a book for me. They can turn a good read great or make it just mediocre. I absolutely loved the characters in this book. I connected with all the main players pretty much straight away and that connection held fast throughout the book. I especially liked "Frank" and Alice and the way they interacted. Alice mostly trusting and Frank not taking anything for granted. Alice's children were all pretty real too. Oh and the dogs played their parts too. I wasn't too sure about Lily to be honest but then she wasn't as open a book to read, understandable given her circumstances, but despite this, I did really feel for her so the connection was there.
The past intrigued me as it was slowly revealed in all its glory. I did start to try and work out its place in the present. One part was obvious but the rest I just let the author put in place for me without thinking too hard myself. I decided that I just wanted the story to weave its magic around me rather than trying to work it out or second guess who Mark, Gray or Kirsty could be now. It was like I was under its spell. I was so involved.
The way the story played out held my attention well throughout. It is delivered in an almost poetic way and that, added to the beauty of the setting, made this book quite visual for me. Which in itself is unusual. Pacing is steady and changes as appropriate to follow the narrative. It's not a fast paced action packed book but it delivers just as much of a punch, just in a more subtle, creep up behind you, way.
All in all, this was a good solid read, a great story, well written and played out by developed characters. What's not to like?

Fabulous Book. A must read. You know when you have read so many thrillers that you always figure out the end? Well this one kept me guessing. It is a definite 5 stars from me!!

Brilliant thriller that starts slowly but builds into a mystery, gripping until the end!

Alice is a Londoner living in the seaside town of Ridinghouse Bay. Noticing a man outside in the rain wearing nothing but a shirt and jeans, she in an act of kindness offers him a jacket - now she's involved who is this man? he doesn't know and she's drawn into helping him.
Lily is newly married with a missing husband. Living in a foreign country with no one she knows or can talk to she must rely on the police and her own ingenuity to finally work out what has happened to him.
A boy obsessively in love with a girl who doesn't love him back and a brother who b will do anything to protect his sister.
This book is a slow burner of a book. It took time for me to really enjoy it but once I did I devoured the pages to find out who was this man and what was his story. The beautifully poignant ending brings closure on the past and also the beginning of a future that left me warm and happy inside. I'm excited to read more Lisa Jewell

This book, which is just about to be released as a paperback is sure to be a bestseller this year. It is an excellent read. The story is told from three points of view. Alice, Lily and Gray.

Alice, a forty something woman with three children all from different fathers and three dogs, all from different owners stumbles across a man on the beach. He has nothing on him to identify him, no money and has lost his memory. Against her better judgement and to the alarm of her children she takes him in and offers him shelter for a few days.

Meanwhile, a couple of hundred miles away, 21 year old Lily, just married and new to England is missing her husband, Carl. She can't get the police to take it seriously not until they find his passport is false, purchased from the dark web. Then, she finds they are very interested to the extent of searching their flat.

Back in the 1990s there is another narrative from Gray's (Graham) point of view. He is a teenage boy, on holiday with his parents and 15 year old sister, slightly bored and most definitely pissed off with the older boy, Mark who is showing a really sinister interest in his sister.

The viewpoints are interwoven very well to tell this story. It is heartbreaking at times, realistic and the characters are very well formed. The slightly chaotic Alice, who is kindhearted and generous will make you think twice about judging anyone with a less conventional lifestyle. It was very refreshing to have someone like this as the protagonist of a novel rather than some high flying, unrealistically beautiful woman. I liked her a lot.

I would recommend this novel very highly. Well written and with believable characters it will stay with you long after you've finished reading it.

I Found You is the first book I have read by Lisa Jewell. After finishing, I immediately wished it wasn't 11:15 at night so I could run out and buy copies of her other novels. I Found You is a book that left me quickly flying through the pages and kept me guessing until the end. Who is Frank? Who is Carl? Are they connected to the story from the past? Jewell kept up the pace very well and I found myself wanting to ignore everything around me just to finish it. Her characters are incredible even if all of them are filled with flaws. Alice was far from perfect. She has made mistakes. Is taking Frank in a mistake? Is he a criminal? Is just a poor guy who lost his memory? One will have to read to find out as I don't want to put too many spoilers here. On the flip side, you have poor Lily looking for her mysterious missing husband, Carl, who isn't exactly who he says he is. Will Lily find him? Is 'Frank' really 'Carl'? How to Graham, Mark, and Kristy come into play? So many questions and only by finishing will you find all the answers.

I had one part figured out about a quarter of the way through the book but I was still surprised by much of what transpired. Jewell really weaves a delightful tale and I am eager to read more of her works.

A gripping story that had me hooked from start to end.

Well that was some rollercoaster ride & boy what a thrill ride it was too. This book was quite the page turner, loved it from start to finish. Great story plot & amazing characters. Edge of seat with anticipation of what will happen next. What more could u want. It truly was a fantastic read.

This is the first book by Lisa Jewell I have read and not what I was expecting at all. The name and the covers of her books suggest chick lit but this was much more. I found the characters all likeable and believable, the descriptions of Alice as a lonely single mother were even quite humorous at times.
The book was full of mystery and suspense and the switch between characters and time built on this suspense making it very difficult to put down.
For the first half of the book I was left with intrigue as to who frank was but was rooting for him to be the good guy and even when you think you've figured it out your still not quite sure.
This was a thoroughly good read and will be looking out for more by Lisa Jewell in the future.

This book opens with Alice in her small cottage on the coast in the north of England seeing a man sitting on the beach. Later that day he is still there and he is still there in the evening. Her intentions not to be involved weaken. The man, who cannot even remember his name never mind why he is there spends the night in the studio apartment she has. It was easy reading and quickly drew me in.

In addition to the story line about the man who has lost his memory and is in a fugue state there are two other threads in this book. In a flat in London, Lily, from eastern Europe is wondering where her recently married husband is. There is also a thread about a family having a holiday in the same seaside resort that Alice lives in. These apparently diverse threads you just know will come together during the book.

The characters in this worked generally very well for me. In particular Alice I thought was a very good character and I grew to like Lily too. In fact the area of this book I liked best was Alice, her life and her family - I found all of that engaging and believable. The pace and storytelling were such that the fact some of the characters seemed a little thinner to me faded in importance. As the story progresses the tension mounts nicely and it kept me reading without any effort at all.

I'd not read any of Lisa Jewell books before this however I'd certainly be open to reading more of her work. The writing is really appears quite lightweight and some parts of the story do so too. However that conceals a nicely crafted and quite deep story which I really enjoyed reading.

The story open with two stories one set now and one over 20 years ago. And you are kept guessing throughout of what happened over 20 years ago and how it is planning it out now.
This book twists and turns throughout, once you think you have solved the puzzle boom it all changes. A very good read that was easy to read and kept you wanting more and more.

Lisa Jewell had gripped me once again, read in two sittings and really enjoyed this book. It's like half chick lit and half thriller which worked really well and the characters were really three dimensional and had so much depth you just couldn't help being drawn to both them and the plot. Highly recommend

What an exciting book! Great fast paced, and gripping read. Definitely would recommend this book!

Alice finds a man on the beach by her home who has no idea who he is or how he got there. Instead of calling the police, she takes him in and offers him food and a place to stay while he struggles to remember his identity. Alice is a little rough around the edges but extremely kind hearted. I enjoyed the loving chaos that was Alice’s home—from the many dogs running in and out, how protective here children were of her to how open she was about the challenges she faced doing everything on her own. Alice is someone I would definitely want as a friend.

Lily is a very young, newly married woman who has just moved from the Ukraine and trying to settle in to a new country and domestic life. She knows no one other than her husband and a few of his colleagues. They are madly in love so it comes as a shock to her when he does not return home from work one evening. As the hours stretch in to days she begins to desperately search for him, convinced that he would never voluntarily leave her.

The narrative alternates between Alice and Lily and I could not read fast enough as more information came to light about the identity of Alice’s mystery man as well as the possible whereabouts of Lily’s husband. I thought I had it all figured out a few times and then each time, another plot twist would reveal itself. Lisa Jewell never disappoints and I highly recommend this read. 4 fantastic stars. Brilliant book. Excellent main characters and plot. I would recommend this book.

This was a good, suspenseful story, though I did question the way the author presented the ending. Instead of actually experiencing the ending, the author gives the reader a summarized version of events in a newspaper article. Well, that's one way to get out of writing 25+ pages. Maybe the author wanted to keep the antagonist at an arm's length, who knows? I just found it a bit jarring and feel it cheated the reader out of some potentially good story.

Such a well-written, engrossing read. I loved every page, regardless of the character or time setting I was currently on. And the ending made me cry! This author just gets better and better.

I really enjoyed this novel, much more than Lisa Jewell's last one. It's just plain good chicklit! The story draws you in straight away, has great believable characters and the author keeps you guessing till quite late in the book, making sure there are always some possibilities open. Came at the right time for me. If you need something light and relaxing with a happy end, this is it.

I really enjoyed this book - very likeable characters; good stories that merged together well. A sad story at its core, but still with a happy hopeful feel to it. I raced through this - a real page turner.

This book was pretty good. The characters are all very different, which I love, keeps things interesting! I admit that it had a bit of a slow start when we are getting all the background information from each character. But once the story was established, I couldn't put it down! I must have changed my guess of the ending with each chapter! I definitely would recommend this book
