I did enjoy Mystery at Maplemead Castle. I don't usually for for ghost stories per se but this book was billed as a 'laugh till you cry cozy mystery'. There definitely were some funny moments in this book and lots of witty one liners that brought a smile to my face.
Although this is the second book in the Chapelwick Mysteries, I don't feel I've missed out by not having read the first book. The characters are delightful and the friendship between Melody, Marina and Artie is heartwarming. I also though Melody's grandmother was a very entertaining character.
This book was an easy read that I happily curled up with on an evening and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Kitty French for the chance to review.
Oh how I love these books. Laugh out loud and just generally feel good. Keep them coming as far as I am concerned they are a winner.
I grinned at the dedication to Kim Nash. Awesome lady.
One of my favouritest swear words ever was in there too (if anyone asks I don't swear) ;)
Review on Goodreads and other retailers on release week.
Thanks for allowing me to read. A fantastic read.
I was a big fan of Melody Bittersweet in the first book in the (fancily rebranded) Chapelwick Mysteries, and this sequel doesn't disappoint. Such an unusual but brilliant kind of romance/paranormal/comedy it is crammed with laughs, chemistry and, of course, ghosts! Fabulously entertaining and ahhhh without wanting to post spoilers there's some frustratingly sizzling sparks between the characters that hits the right spot.
I absolutely ADORED the first Melody book and was waiting eagerly for this. And wow! This one is even better. I did not realise just how much I had missed the characters and the author's trademark, chatty, witty style of writing until I started reading this and it was like reuniting with a old, beloved friend. LOVE everything about this series: the tongue in cheek humour, the banter, every one of the wonderful, larger than life characters, including the pug, the trusty old vehicle Babs, and each and every ghost. This series has something to satisfy every kind of reader: chuckles galore, ghouls, food( with special emphasis on Nonna's divine biscuits, so lovingly described that I can taste them), romance and plenty of mystery to boot. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this series and cannot wait for more!
I loved the first book in the series so I hoped that this one would be just as good - but it was even better! I loved the story and I kept guessing the whole way through. I wanted to keep getting to know all of the characters, and it was nice to see a different, softer side to Fletch. I didn't want the book to end! I will be posting a review online closer to the release date and I will let the publisher know when it's up. Can't wait for the next one!!
Mystery at Maplemead Castle is Kitty French's second Chapelwick mystery with Melody Bittersweet the ghostbuster and her hysterical friends and family. In this book, Melody is called to a castle to drive away a troupe of ghostly circus performers (including a lion!) who are frightening the new American owners. She has to work with her ex-boyfriend, Leo, who also sees ghosts and brings in a TV crew. She also has to contend with the very attractive local newspaper reporter, Fletcher, who is skeptical of Melody's ability, while at the same time, he and Melody have serious chemistry that confuses them both.
I really enjoyed this lighthearted funny mystery. The story was very interesting, and the ending was a surprise and very satisfying. The characters were well-written and the sexual tension between Fletcher and Melody was well done. I highly recommend this book, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
The second book in this fun series. I have read both, but to be honest you would not be too lost if you didn't read them both. A fun series of ghostbusters and mysteries blended together with a little romance and sexual tension. A fun cozy mystery type, just with non-breathers as the clients. Highly recommend this series and author. Great fun and escape to read.
The owners of the venerable Maplemead Castle have a bevy of ghosts they need to get rid of, luckily Melody Bittersweet and the Girls Ghostbusting Agency are on hand to help. It turns out that the ghost of a former trapeze artist who fell to her death 100 years earlier, is reliving that terrible event over and over, every night. Melody is sure she can help Britannia Lovell get to the Other Side, but first she has to determined if the death was really an accident or a murder. On hand are her wily ex, Leo Dark and dreamy reporter Fletcher Gunn. This is a light hearted, funny series
