This book started out slow for me but I did enjoy reading it and I esp liked the ending. Most of the book is told in flashback. Martin and Leni are in love but history and prejudices keep them apart. Through the years they keep saying goodbye unsuccessfully until the ending. Enjoy their never ending love story.

A 2 star review for Waiting for Walter by A. S. Balfour.
The story involves a Jewish boy Martin and a German girl Leni who meet in the 1950's in London. They struggle to be together but as Martin is too weak to stand up to his domineering Father, they are destined to part. They stay in touch and meet occasionally over the years until he travels to see her one last time, and discovers a surprising secret she has kept. I enjoyed the story but did not really like Martin and found it hard going in places with too much Politics and Poetry, and i lost interest by the end of the book.

I enjoyed this book and it got better as it went on. The first half seemed a bit stilted but descriptions improved with time. The discrimination issues were sensitively addressed particularly for me as I have Jewish ancestors and a mixed race marriage.
