Lynsay Sands totally and completely outdid herself with this book! I was so excited reading it. Don't get me wrong, I never get the sense from her other books that she has Argeneau fatigue; she always brings something new, different, and stretches her boundaries subtly and graciously. But this book--! She brought an entirely different dimension to the series. It's Island of Doctor Moreau in the guise of a romantic comedy. I loved it!
Even though this is the 25th book in this series, I did not read any of the previous ones before reading this book. I didn't think it effected me reading this book so I would say that, if you wanted to, this book could be read as a standalone.
I thought the storyline was sort of interesting.
I liked that the author had a different take on vampires than what I have read about before. Although I found it interesting, I didn't find the vampires to be very appealing. I'm not sure whether this was due to the author's portrayal of vampires but I just felt that the were lacking something.
Although I didn't enjoy this book as much as I was hoping, I would give other books in this series a try.
Immortal Unchained by Lyndsay sands is not the first book I have read in the Argeneau series. so with that in mind, I will be weighing this story merits based on previous instalments of this fascinating series.
Well, first things first, This tale is told from two viewpoints, our heroine Sarita and our hot Vampire Domitian, I'm assuming that the reader is familiar with this series and life-mates but if not for the Argeneau virgins here's a brief explanation.
There's a life-mate for each vampire and the ability to recognise them comes from being unable to read or control their future life partner.
The vampires are originally from Atlantas.
it's the advanced technology with nano's that repair their bodies, that make them practically immortal, it's these nano's that need the extra blood.
You can only turn one person, so this is usually reserved for the life-mate.
so now that's out of the way lets get back to this book,
Immortal Unchained is book number 25 in this series it features the above two characters I mentioned before Sarita who is a cop and Domitian who after numerous occupations over his many years is now a chef.
Both end up stranded on an island after being lured there by Dr Dressler who seems very insane, so the mad scientist label would definitely be a fit.
Now all the action takes part on the small island our two lovebirds are stranded on and also a bigger one where the mad doctor has been running his diabolical unethical experiments from.
I really don't want to give too much away so will just say what I think
of the overall plotline.
This wasn't my favourite of Miss Sands books but was still a great read,
it was fast paced, the writing flowed and the action between our two mains well let's just say it was sizzling hot.
We get to meet previous characters from earlier books which was really nice, we also get a conclusion which while very satisfying also had an open-ended finish which paves the way for future releases.
so in conclusion, while not being my number one read of this author this is still a worthy offering of Argeneau yumminess that is well worth a read.
I received an e-copy free of this book from Netgalley and this is my own honest opinion.
I have loved these books in the past but sorry for me it didn't ring trup to the story line and I didn't care about the characters.
After 25 books in the same series, you'd think Sands would run out of story lines but she is still going strong. She hasn't lost her touch. I like her consistency in key elements that span throughout the line. The details matter.
In this story, Domitian and Sarita bring sexy back with an almost combustible desire for one another. They are kidnapped and dropped on an island alone together. What are life mates to do? Of course there is a big plot to go along with it but I needed to take a moment to give Sands some kudos. They were muy caliente together.
The plot was interesting and connected with others in the series seamlessly. It opened up some interesting possibilities for potential future couples. Our main couple followed a pretty standard mold for this series but I was still entertained.
Safety: No others for Domitian after meeting the h but she was very young (13) so he stepped back to let her grow up and "live". Living did include her sleeping with other men but she didn't have an awareness of the H or of the concept of life mates. No rape.
I can't believe this series is on book 25 already where has all that time gone, whilst some have been amazing others haven't quite met the mark. However I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was non stop entertainment, can't wait to get my hands on the next one.
This book is a welcome return to the Argenau Vampire series by Lynsay Sands .
These books are not your typical 'Vampire' novels but are full of fun , wit , amazing characters and passion !!
Immortals are going missing - who is taking them , why and how . Rogue Hunters are sent out to find and rescue them BUT are also going missing - what is going on .
Domitian Argenis is old , very old. He has been waiting for Sarita Reyes to be old enough for him to 'woo' and show her that she is his lifemate. But before he has a chance to do so they are both kidnapped and wake up on an island off the coast of Venezuela , to find that they are part of an experiment by a 'mad' scientist , Doctor Dressler .
They must do everything in their power to escape and rescue the other Immortals/Hybrids , also being held on the island , before Doctor Dressler achieves his aims.
Sarita finds it difficult to take Domitian seriously - she has never heard of Immortals/Lifemates.
He however is determined to win her over ................ whilst Sarita is certainly up for the physical part of their relationship , the lifemate element is harder to accept .
The action is fast paced as we watch to see if/how the rescue and the 'woo-ing' proceeds .
This book is a excellent addition to the series and maintains the high quality of writing by the Author . Her Immortals show vulnerabilities without losing their macho edge , also bringing fun and passion to their interactions with their Lifemates .
I have read this series from the first book onwards and usually find them an enjoyable adventure. Unfortunately this must of been one of the worse books in the whole series. I found myself more interested in the Immortal that was cut in half than the hero and heroine of this story. It started to come good briefly, when other known characters were added in but then flopped badly due to dull characters and seriously, the same old story line and when the author has to put sex into the first chapter you know they are scratching to write something new. Keep on reading this series with me but you will be disappointed with this one!
I haven't read one of Lynsay Sands book for quite a while, so this felt like jumping in a bit. Overall I enjoyed this book, but the descriptions at the beginning in the crazy doctors laboratory was a little to descriptive for me. Overall I liked the book, buy I do prefer her earlier work.
I have never read any other books in this series but I will be reading them all now, this was a great read. I love the Atlantean immortal concept, I thought it was very original. There was plenty of romance but also more than enough action, any one who has read Christine Feehans Dark hunter series will love this.
Well this latest addition to the Argeneau series is quite simply non stop entertainment! This author brings her own twist to traditional vampire lore with these her Immortals who also just happen to be descended from a race that nowadays is the stuff of legends. Yet not content to simply leave it there we get the added bonus of a scientific vibe with nanos and of course mind blowing sexy times! I mean come on wouldn't you like to tick passing out into glorious oblivion from the ultimate shared big O off your bucket list? Yet this instalment blows all the cobwebs away with the addition of a mad scientist ! Prepare to buckle up for an unforgettable ride!
So this series has been leading up to all the dastardly deeds that have been happening on a mysterious Venezuelan island and the Immortals have never been in more peril. You would think with all their strength and speed they would be invincible but unfortunately not as they all share a weakness, the need to protect their life mates ! Domitian found his when she was barely a teen and nobly decided to wait until Sarita had grown up and tasted the world. Now he wakes chained to a table and faced with the independent life mate who never knew he existed! Sarita has been lied to, drugged and now she's all alone with a blood sucking vampire! Still it's not all bad as he is kind of cute but it's a bit creepy that he's had her followed for the past fifteen years and as far as Sarita is concerned there's definitely not going to be any sexy shenanigans . Hmm lets see how long that lasts !
Keeping a long running series fresh is a challenge that this author has clearly relished and this new departure has so many possibilities. There's still the heat that excites so many readers with veteran characters making an appearance and of course new and somewhat unusual ones here too! If honest I was a little taken aback by Saritas initial reaction to everything she sees and learns as personally I'd have been running screaming but then again as individuals we all react differently . Sarita is sassy and stubborn but pairing her with such a sweetie as Domitian worked out beautifully. Yes there's danger, suspense and humour too but for this reader the mad scientist added just enough darkness to keep me gripped.
A copy of this was provided for me and I have voluntarily read it which means my comments are my own honest opinion
I have read and own each and every book in this series. This book was good.
The chemistry between Domitian and Sarita was strong. She is his lifemate and watched her grow over the years. She is a cop and has no idea about their bond. A family issue puts Domitian and Sarita in the same place and they have to work together to solve a major issue with Dressler. This book has a lot of action, drama and different aspects to it. You must read the book to get the full meaning of what's happening. I enjoyed this book and will read more from this author.
A little slower paced than I like but still worth the read. So glad to see favorite characters and meet new ones. I hope to see more Thorne in the future. I'm already over Dressler and he's barely even started.
I received this ebook free from the publisher through Netgalley for an honest review.
Dive into the world of Lynsay Sands' genetically created vampires. If you're interested in paranormal romance and the old fashioned night living blood guzzling vampire isn't doing it for you anymore, you might want to try Sands' refreshing nano-infused hotties. In this series vampires are not the soulless blood drinking monsters of lore, but genetically altered humans that had their beginning in the fallen land of Atlantis. Science was beyond its time in the very ancient city and they perfected a way for tiny microscopic machines to bring the body to peak condition (no illness, no sickness, etc.). The little machines, or nanos, were to self terminate upon completion of their task, but due to the human body being constantly damaged (sun, eating unhealthy foods, etc.) the nanos were constantly having to do work to get a body to its peak state, hence creating immortality of a kind. The nanos would use blood as an energy source and fortunately needed more than the human body can process, so there was need for excess blood-turning these peak humans into blood drinkers over time. After the fall of Atlantis due to a series of natural disasters, the people who survived the fall of their civilization came out into a world that was primitive and there were no longer doctors to provide blood. the nanos being able to alter the body to such a degree, made it possible for the immortals to ingest blood another way- razor sharp teeth! Fast forward a couple millennia and we come to modern times....
It had been a while since I read one of Sand's Immortal books so I had to do a bit of rereading to remember all of the Argeneau clan, but this latest installment is one that adds more fun and laughter to an already great series. While the beginning of the book may seem a little disorienting to those who haven't read any of the prior novels, there is catch up within the first few pages, so you won't be floundering for long. But I definitely suggest you not starting with this one.
Domitian and Sarita are two characters that just mesh. There wasn't any huge hiccups upon the two meeting and despite their being lifemates, I was expecting them to have a little conflict. I think my biggest upset with this installment is their relationship. In all Sands' previous Immortal books, the main couple always had a clash at one point or another, whether over their beliefs or their situations, and it made their development to be that much deeper. I didn't feel the depth from these two. Sarita and Domitian are both wonderful characters in their own right, but because they just fall together so easily it left me wanting more from the story as a whole.
I don't know if it's because I love to read about tortured heroes and wily vixens, but these two together aren't my favorite, I think I got the most excited where the parts that some of Sands' past characters showed up. Lucian, Eshe, even Bricker brought more awe-factor than Sarita and Domitian.
It's still a solid read and a nice piece to the Immortal series, but no where near what I've come to expect from this author. I will definitely still read anything this author writes and continue to hope for snippets of life from previous characters. I will say, a side character in this one caught my eye, maybe we'll get a story from the Immortal captives that were mentioned in this installment... one can hope.
3.5 Stars
Since I accidentally stumbled across the 7th book of the Argenau series of Lynsay Sands (The Accidental Vampire, what's in a name...), I was sincerely spoiled. Ever since, all vampire books I read are measured against the Argenaus... So when I saw Immortal Unchained (# 25 in the series) on Netgalley, I just had to request it. And yay, I received the ARC. I was a little hesitant, because after more than 20 books on the Argenau family, the action seemed to be getting a little less in the books 21 and 22. The yummie Notte twins (Dante and Tomasso) fortunately had more action in books 23 and 24. And in this book, Lynsay picks up the pace. We had already seen, that there were some immortals disappearing in those books. And although Lucian (my absolute favourite Argenau) was trying to find them, he was not able to.
Enter Domitian. We start the book with Lucian growling (when is he not growling...) into Domitian's earpeace, not to go on board of the helicopter. But of course, Domitian gets on the helicopter... and ends up chained to a table in a secret lab.
Fortunately, Domitian is untied by Sarita, his life mate. If you haven't read any of Lynsay's books: she is THE ONE for him. But since she is a 'normal' mortal woman, she knows nothing of vampires (excuse me: immortals). However, she gets a crash course in vampires by Dr. Dressler, a mad scientist doing gruesome experiments on them.
Of course there is this undeniable attraction between Sarita and Domitian, which will lead to some hilarious and also steaming scenes. But, as a true Argenau story, there is a lot of action, some unexpected turns and some very intriguing characters. For instance, we meet Thorne, the son of Dr. Dressler and Asherah, the assistant of Dr. Dressler. Right untill the end, you don't know who will be part of the good guys or part of the bad guys. With the exception of Dr. Dressler of course, who is just pure evil.
Furthermore, we re-unite with some of the characters of the earlier books, like Victor (my first Argenau encounter), Nicholas and Jo (The Renegade Hunter, #12), Decker and Dani (The Immortal Hunter #11), Lucern (Single White Vampire #3), Eshe (Borne to Bite, #13) and Mirabeau (Bitten by Cupid, #12,5). And of course Lucian (Bite me if you can, #6).
So of course, five out of five stars from me! And looking forward to book 26! Keep up the good work, Lynsay.
I worried that maybe this might be one too many books in the Argeneau series BUT I WAS SO WRONG. This book was so, so good! It has everything you would expect from Ms. Sand’s long running series and more. It was infused with the perfect blend humor, passion, heat, danger, intrigue and even evil. Domitian Argenis is very, very old. He has been waiting so long for Sarita Reyes to be old enough for him to woo her and show her that she is his lifemate. Before he has a chance to do that they are both basically kidnapped and brought to the island of a mad scientist, Dr. Drexler, who has been experimenting on humans and immortals alike. He has kidnapped many of Domitian’s relatives already. Drexler leaves them alone together in a house so he can watch them interact and so they will bond as lifemates because he wants to use that to gain the information he is seeking.
The love story part of the story is very sweet and Domitian is the perfect gentleman and extremely sexy. I love how he always says “As you wish” to her. Sarita is of course a little taken aback by everything she is learning and a much harder sell on the whole life mate thing although she is definitely up for the physical part of the relationship. I really like her though, she has spunk and is quite sassy.
This is a real nailbiter as we hope and wait to see if Sarita and Domitian can find a way to free his family members, escape this madman and put him behind bars like he deserves.
One of my favorite lines in the book is the throwback to Princess Bride when Domitian says that he was going to walk up to Sarita and say “My name is Domitian Argenis...you are my life mate...Prepare to be loved.” I found myself reading that in Inigo Montoya’s voice. Very funny.
Great addition to the Argeneau series!
Thank you for the opportunity to read the ARC!!!
