This is the fourth book in the Bourbon Street Boys series but I feel that this one could be read on a S/A basis. This was easily my favourite book in the series to date. It started on a real high and instantly had me intrigued, it did waver a little mid way through as it started to feel a little repetitive but it did end on a high. I really liked both characters and this was a sweet romance.
I have to be honest and say this is the first book by this author I have read. I will be going back and looking into the other books she writes. I was impressed. although this is the 4th book in the series I did not feel lost at all reading it. I enjoued it!
I found the romance sweet and liked that there was not sex all through the book. I love my mob books so this was easy for me to get into. I found it intense and very entertaining! Can't wait to read more!
I wanted to like this. I really did. It sounded exactly like something I was in the mood for and would love. Unfortunately, it just didn't seem to work for me. I could barely finish it, and ended up having to skim the last 20%. The book just felt aimless, or maybe just the motivations didn't feel strong enough to actually drive the characters' actions. I'm willing to forgive a lot if I fall in love with the characters, but I just didn't connect with them. And even worse, it just didn't feel like they connected with each other. I'm all for opposites attract, but I don't even necessarily think these two were actually attracted to/loved each other.
Despite not getting into this book, I still have hopes for this author. I haven't read anything by her before, so there's a good chance this was just a case of Wrong Turn, Wrong Everything Else Too. Sometimes books just don't jive. So considering how well received some of the other books in this series are, I'm going to give them a shot.
As a huge fan of the previous books in this series, it is with much regret I have to admit I had some issues with this one. Namely, one big one, Tamika, the heroine. She came dangerously close at times to giving me reasons not to want to finish this one, folks. From the get go, I just couldn’t buy into the author’s decision to set up such an unappealing/unrealistic baby mama drama setup, which was so grossly written I almost stopped reading it altogether. The attempt of humor there definitely fell flat with me, specifically all the talk of bodily functions/fluids. I just felt the beginning could have been better scripted.
Tamika was annoyingly quick to mouth off/point the finger/blame at everyone else for pretty much everything that happens around her, yet at the same time constantly berates herself. It just got old and very, very exhausting, folks. She may be on the run from a notorious Russian mobster, but, honestly, she was her own worst enemy at times.
What kept me reading? Well, that’s an easy question to answer. Thibault, the hero, was about as perfect as a good guy could be. Kind, patient, caring, protective, almost to a fault. You see, he deserved better than what was dished out to him, yet he kept putting up with Tamika’s back and forth behavior/hand-wringing. Even at almost 70% into it, he is still taking so much nonsense from her, I was afraid it was never going to end. It just seemed illogical for her to continue on the path of hand-wringing/mistrust for as long as she did. He was obviously her best hope of coming out of this situation alive. People even referred to him as Superman, but James Bond came more to mind for me. He seemed to be great at getting them out of sticky situations with little to no warning.
The cameo appearances of sub-characters from previous books was also a big highlight for me. They added humor and a cohesiveness to the storyline that definitely made the unfolding events more appealing.
The ending did have an action packed moment featuring an unexpected character, but it felt a little off to me. It wasn’t so much what was revealed, because that was rather clever, but again it was the scripted delivery of the dialog between Tamika and the name of the person I shall not speak of here (to avoid a major spoiler).
So, overall, this romantic tale took a wrong turn with me in the beginning, then self-corrected in the right direction with the emotional bonding/HEA of the main couple. Yeah, I think he deserved better, but I’m glad this good guy hero got what he seemed to truly want in the end, Tamika and everything that came with her. So far though it is my least favorite of this series.

*2 stars*
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book had all the promise in the world; an intruiging plot, sassy characters, macho main characters. But I just couldn't get into it. The heroine, Mika, didn't know she was pregnant. She's on the run from her mobster boss when she starts getting stomach cramps, turns the wrong way down a one way road, and hits a man. He's fine, but it turns out she's in labor! He delivers the baby, helps her in the hospital, and helps her run away from her boss who is looking for her.
The suspense parts were very flat to me. The hero in the story, Thibault, was WAY too bossy and Mika was very wishy-washy. Their chemistry seemed very forced. All of the sudden he was in love with her, for no apparent reason that I could tell. Also, I couldn't get into the having sex right after giving birth thing. THAT WOULD HURT. I don't know, some people seemed to love it, but it just wasn't the book for me.
I enjoyed this slow burn romance! The humor was good and the I liked the storyline. Sad to see this series end!
Superman is up to the plate! He may hate that nickname but Thibault sure lives up to the name.
Mika has been dealt a bad hand in life. Parents who couldn't give a damn, her grandmother passing away early and then the icing on the cake, she gets introduced to a certain psychopathic, Russian mobster who enjoys breaking her way too much. Her desperation brought him into her life but she decides to get out whilst she still can. But when she crashes into a hunk of man on her way to an errand, she never realises he wold be the catalyst to immense danger but also the first real safe zone she has ever had. Going into labour??? yeah she didn't see that coming, and her new friend is all up in her business!!
Thibault loves his dysfunctional family, made up of his sister and their life long friends. Family is what you make it and he's generally happy with his lot. Being run over by a cutie in a Toyota was not on his to do list though. But quickly realising that not only is the driver in labour but she didn't even know she was pregnant, T leaps into action.
As they continue to bump into each other at the hospital T realises that Mika is in real trouble. Wll that's what Bourbon Boys deals with daily, so they are just the crew to help her. But Mika is used to fending for herself. With her new little bundle of responsibility, she is even more wary of accepting help. But will her stubbornness lead her into more danger, especially as she is not very free with details of her situation.
Really enjoyed this story. Mika was head-headed and both jaded and naive! You could see how she got sucked into her situation and how well she had done to rise above her dodgy circumstances. T is just WOW. I'd love him to swoop in and rescue me! Be aware that there are some very horrible abusive situations mentioned in the book and these could be triggers for some reader.
There is an absolutely brilliant "WTF" moment when you realise just who is involved in the background of the whole mess. Greatto catch up with the others in the crew, even Ice Queen Toni!
Thibault steps into the road as Mika makes a wrong turn and fate brings them together. This is the 4th book in the Bourbon street boys series and keeps the reader turning pages to find out the answers and ending.
Ebook from Netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
I received this book, from NetGalley and Montlake Romance, in exchange for my honest opinion. This is just my view of the book. My opinion is not meant to influence, just to inform. As soon as this book was released, I purchased it, as with all the others in the series!
Once again, Elle Casey delivers an action packed, sizzling read. The Bourbon Street Boys are back and better than ever. There is danger, romance, and lots of laughs in this fast action adventure. This one was fun, in its own way. I found myself frustrated with Mika, even though caution was needed, instincts should have been telling you to go with the Boys. Still, love this series and Thibault needed his story! I loved the story, though wished for a little more epilogue! That may just be because I don't want to say goodbye to this wonderful family!!!
The writing is wonderfully descriptive, making you feel like you are traversing the streets of New Orleans. The dynamics of the characters are close knit, sometimes quite intense.
I have read the entire series! This book is excellent and the adventure is heart pumping, heart stopping thrill ride, with laughs along the way! Well written romantic thrill ride, with a quick thinking heroine and a hottie, who handle almost everything! I loved getting to know all the characters and am quite sad to end this journey!!
I liked this book well enough, but I was hoping for a book that had that laugh-out-loud take on what should be a serious story involving mobsters. Still, I would still recommend this book and the series to anyone looking for a good group of friends/co-workers to follow.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
Action, drama an romance, I'm sad to see this series end. I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading whatever this author writes next.
I liked some of the parts of this story and the other parts I did not. I had to put the book down several times. The heroine of this story Tamika Cleary was annoying to say the least and had some serious attitude. I'm kind of disappointed that this is who Thibault ended up with in the final installment of the Bourbon Street Boys. In this story we have Tamika who is turning informant on her mafia boss, finds out when she is actually in labor that she is pregnant and makes a wrong turn down a one way street and accidentally hits Thibault. After that is a mash up of different things going on, that had me saying to myself, what just happened? I did like that Tamika gets better towards the end and that we got to see the old crew Ozzie/May, Jenny/Dev & Toni/Lucky. Tamika did have a hard life up until Thibault decided to come in and save the day. It was an alright read, not like the rest in the series.
In the briefest commentary I can make on Wrong Turn Right Direction, I’m simply going to say that although this was a story that falls into the “good story” category – it simply wasn’t one that I wish to say much about. I was completely unable to connect or even like the heroine until maybe the last parts of this story… and even then it wasn’t a true connection. The hero was a bit better in some ways, yet I found his “concerns” more of the bullying type of reactions and that put me off of him as well. When I cannot connect with either of the main characters in any fashion – well, then obviously the book simply isn’t for me. I liked the idea of the story and that is what gave it the “good story” rating – I simply wish I could have found a way to like these two characters more.
There is an audience that will love Wrong Turn Right Direction (and no that is not sarcasm) – so I’ll honestly say that you the reader need to make up your own mind on this one. It will work very well for some readers, not so much for others. For my reading taste there has to be a spark, something that will let me believe in the passion, the love between two people. When one refuses to trust, even a little and the other is pushing for things not ready to be given – there is no spark in that.. So, this story is one you have to make your own decision about, after all, a review is only one person’s opinion and it might not reflect your reaction to a book. I’ve enjoyed Elle Casey’s works before, and I imagine I will again. This one simply didn’t click for me.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
This was just an ok read for me. The story was interesting but I really had trouble connecting to the characters..... especially Tamika. I would be curcious to read another book in the series & see if I liked it better.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Wrong Turn, Right Direction is the 4th (and, I think, the last) of the Bourbon Street Boys series. It's Thibault's turn to find love now. And he finds it with Tamika "Mika" Cleary, a woman who was going the wrong way down the street he stepped onto, and she ran into him. While at first he was angry, he turned that anger around when he realized she was having a serious medical problem - she was giving birth! You see, Mika works for a dangerous Russian mafia leader and she's turned informant on him, so she's been trying to get away from the man for awhile. She didn't realize she was pregnant (um, excuse me, how the hell can one be 9 months pregnant and not realize it?!?!?!), by a Russian gangster no less, and this new wrinkle in her life is about to make things that much more difficult for her to get away from Pavel (said Russian gangster).
Thibault has watched his whole team, his whole family, fall in love and start families and he's starting to feel jealous and envious of them. He's got a Superman complex, so when a beautiful damsel in distress literally runs into him, what else is he to do but to step in and take care of her and her new baby? I love Thibault. He's kind, compassionate, caring and protective. I think he deserved a lot better than Mika, though. I was never able to connect with her. First off, I think she's incredibly stupid (hello, not realizing she's pregnant!!!!), and she keeps Thibault at arm's length nearly the entire time. It isn't until almost the very end that she let Thibault into her heart, and I kind of felt it was too late. Not only was she incredibly stupid, but she was kind of selfish. She had this incredible man with an incredible team putting themselves out for her, someone they didn't really know, and yet, she kept holding out on them. For what? Why was she holding out on them when it was obvious they were the only people who could, who would, help her and her baby. Sigh...annoying heroines are one of my pet peeves.
But, aside from the annoyance that was Mika, I enjoyed Wrong Turn, Right Direction. It was sweet with a little action, and a tiny bit of steam toward the very end, and the whole team was present again. It was good getting another glimpse of Ozzie and May, Jenny and Dev and even Toni and Lucky. I'm going to miss this cast if this really is the last book of the series.
I really love this series! This is the 4th book in the series and is just as good as the first three books. Another fantastic read by a another great author i just love. Loved Thibault in this book and was very pleased he finally gets his girl. Really good series and book once you finished one, you just want to start the next one. Would recommend these books on to who ever asks me. Left review on Amazon.uk
Wrong Turn, Righ Direction is a light hearted Romantic Comedy. At least as light hearted as a "I didn't know I was pregnant" moment while being chased by the Russian Mob can be. Casey pulls the seemingly absurd plot into something believable. The characters are well developed and each have their own unique voice. While this book is part of the Bourbon Street series, it could easily be read as a stand-alone as the other characters are introduced organically and fit into this story effortlessly.
**Received ARC from NetGalley for a fair and honest review**
Wrong Turn, Right Direction is book 4 in the Bourbon Street Boys series. I'd rate this book at 4 stars. This book could be read as a standalone, but would best be read in order since you would know who the accompanying characters are. This is Thibault's book and Tamika "Mika" story. Mika is working for some bad people, while out on errands for them she sort of hits a pedestrian. Thibault is coming out of a coffee shop not watching where he's going when he gets struck by a car going the wrong way down a one way. When he hobbles over to the driver window he realizes the driver is having a medical crisis and swoops in to save the day. But the medical issues aren't the only issues Mika's got going on.
I really enjoyed this book, was a fast read for me, enjoyed the characters, the storyline. What I had issues with was the storyline for the non-medical issues Mika was having went on too long. And the other issue was it felt like it was building up to something insane happening and then sort of fizzled out. There was an interesting twist that I wasn't expecting though, which did make things a little more interesting. If you are looking for a lot of hot, steamy scenes, you will not find them, though there is one toward the very end. Another point that I noticed that they brought up but went nowhere was a person they talked about hiring and just left it hanging, not sure if that was meant to be intentional or not. Overall I did really enjoy the book. Happy Reading!!
Wrong Turn, Right Direction is the fourth title in the Bourbon Street Boys series, that follows the lives of the characters who run The Bourbon Street Boys a security firm. In this particular title we follow the story of Mika and Thibult. Although it's the last title in the series, it can be read as a standalone, although the characters from the previous titles do appear briefly within the story line.
I found the characters to be quite intriguing and entertaining. Mika is quite a flawed character, at times she was a bit hard to like, but she was quite vulnerable and doesn't trust easily, and as the book progresses and more information is revealed you can understand her personality traits more. On the other hand Thibault is quite endearing, a sweet, caring, protective and loyal man. He seem too good to be true.
The pace changes throughout the book and at times was quite slow and the ending felt a tad rushed.
Overall it's an enjoyable and entertaining romantic suspense with drama, action and intrigue throughout the story line.
This series has been hit or miss for me. I adored Wrong Number, Right Guy but the following two books left me disappointed. I've longed for another book that contained the chemistry and banter that was so prevalent in book 1. Wrong Turn, Right Direction was a mostly enjoyable read. It made me remember what I enjoyed most about the Bourbon Street Boys. There's a slow burning romance, lovable hero, great supporting cast, fun banter, and over the top antics. The mystery aspect is predictable and some of the plot was too unbelievable Overall, it was entertaining light read and a solid addition to the series.
