Five young children have been attacked and left to be found. They've all been molested, some beaten first, one with a broken arm.
It's up to Lieutenant Mile Kaleta and his partner Sergeant Carrie Williams to find the human monster responsible. It's like swimming upstream. The Chief of Police is a racist and a bigot...he doesn't like Kaleta because his father in law is the mayor, the position that the Chief wants. Williams is a woman and the Chief has no use for women who wear the uniform.
But then they get a lead... an anonymous note giving them a name of the suspected perpetrator. The young man is arrested, but Kaleta and Williams have their doubts this is the man responsible, even though there is direct evidence in his room.
The more they dig for further evidence, the more they find there are rich, powerful people involved ... and they want the cast closed pronto.
Kaleta and Williams find themselves the hunter .... by both sides of the law. They have one option .... run for their lives.
This is such an exciting crime thriller. The characters are flawless in their descriptions. The story line is solid. Action and suspense abounds from page one to the very end. Highly recommend to anyone who likes crime thrillers.
Many thanks to the author / Endeavour Press / Netgalley for the digital copy of VIOLATION. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
3 and 1 / 2 stars
Young children are being sexually abused and left in place. The Chief insists on interviewing the first young girl in his usual ham fisted and rude manner. She is terrified.
After the second attack, Lieutenant Kaleta is paired with Caroline Williams because the Chief wants them both dismissed from the force. They are frustrated and worn out from their investigation. The attacks keep occurring.
On the basis of an anonymous letter, they arrest someone. Kaleta doesn’t feel right about it. He and Williams keep investigating the case even though their suspect has been run through the system. What they uncover is a heinous cover up involving the rich and powerful.
This is a well written and plotted book that is unusual in that it takes some surprising twists. This is my first Sally Spencer book and I will look into more of her novels.
I want to thank Netgalley and Endeavour Press for forwarding me a copy of Ms. Spencer’s book.
Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this book. I really enjoyed it. Excellent storyline and very compelling characters. I rooted for the protagonists throughout the story. The ending was a surprise jolt. I will definitely follow this author and look forward to reading more by Ms. Spencer.
Lieutenant Mike Kaleta is given the responsibility with Sergeant Williams to track down a child rapist.
The deeper into the investigation the more problems that seem to surface stopping them from finding out the truth.
I wasn't sure when I started reading this that I could cope with the attitude of the Chief of Police Ringman, but thankfully he wasn't the main policeman in the story and then the story just pulled me in with some good rounded characters that kept me interested right to the end.
This book has a really unusual plot. I loved the complex characters and the humour. It is full of twists and turns and the character of Kaleta really grew on me as he hunted for a person attacking children .A very well written book. Thank you Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Goodreads and Amazon.
