Stunning. Convoluted seat -edge stuff. You might think there's only one way to tie up a series, but you never get near the whole truth.
What a SUPERB ending to this trilogy .
Beware this is no lightweight book - but well worth the effort . You would do well to read the two previous books as the sub-plots are complex and you need to be able to place the 'characters' in their true setting .
The book completes a circle and we end up where we started .......... where Penny Royal first appeared in Panarchia .
The multiple plots and interwoven strands are superbly brought to a welcome final truth/conclusion .
If you enjoy stories with AIs , Robots , Aliens ,Black Holes and Technology gone wild this book will keep you enthralled
Infinity Engine is the third (and final?..) chapter of the Transformation series, focussing on the rogue, black AI Penny Royal. Throughout Dark Intelligence and War Machine we're introduced to numerous characters and their interactions with Penny Royal. Due to the twists and turns involved in the trilogy it's hard to really describe the story arcs of everyone; only that nothing is as it seems and Penny Royal is always 3 steps ahead.
I found this a satisfying conclusion to the series, and the pace is break neck. Some of the storylines are incredibly dense and tech-heavy, and if you stop paying attention for a page or two you'll be in trouble. Whilst not entirely necessary, a good grasp of the Polity World is recommended, as there are overlaps with many of the characters and races.
