I wanted to love this book, but I just couldn't get into it in the end. The premise sounded fantastic, but I found the book a little flat in all honesty.

This book made me think. Hannah wants to keep her family safe during an epidemic. The lengths she goes to is extraordinary. As supplies and services run out or are turned off so she and her husband have to work harder. An interesting book centred around one family's survival through the epidemic

If an epidemic hit the world you'd be stuck in your home with the kids bored and driving you mad. Trying to stretch out the food you have. This is basically what happens in this book, so while it is very realistic it did drag a bit. Took me 9 days to read which is unusual for me. It wasn't a bad book, I was just expecting a bit more

When I first started this book I was unsure if I would enjoy it, this isn't my normal style of book so I was hesitant and wary.
During the opening chapters the Mum comes across as over protective and neurotic. However as the book continues you get to see her and where she forms her conclusions and you can see she is just doing everything in her power to keep her family safe once again.
A compelling read that triggers a lot of afterthought and what if scenarios.
Really enjoyed this book and felt addicted to keep reading to see how their story ended.

Interesting storyline. Enjoyed it but found the storyline a bit boring to be honest.

Thank you to Netgalley, Headline and the author Amanda for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow - what a book! I went on a bit of a rollercoaster with this book and struggled to put it down sometimes!
Without giving too much of a spolier away - it made me go through my kitchen cupboards and wonder..... "What if this happened to me, how long would we last?"
It also challenged some really interesting decisions and the authors writing is quite honest, uncomfortably honest in some parts, especially when it camt to the little girl (again trying not to give any spoliers!) but wow, i think i would have been and done exactly like the main character did!
Just what you want from a book, i was completely transported and on the edge of my seat for most of it!

It is not often that I give up on a book an d not get to the end but this is one of those books.
I find it boring, slow moving and Hannah a very boring person with a weak husband!
Sorry, I did try!

An interesting take on an overdone subject, I was really drawn into the characters. Made a closed scene idea really interesting and was a real page turner waiting to find out how the virus would finish

At the beginning of the story I found the main character quite unlikeable with her obsessive behaviour, however as the story moved forward she was justified in this behaviour and I found myself rooting for her.
A very well written, gripping and easy read.

great read and easy to follow story line. look forward to reading more from this author

This book gripped me from the start and I found it very hard to put it away, it's every parents worse nightmare and made me think that if something did happen I am not as well prepared as Hannah
Am now off to buy lots of tins and non perishable items .........just in case !

Anyone who is a parent or homemaker, must at sometime or other wonder what we would do if we had to keep our family at home for a prolonged stretch of time. I have a friend who keeps a stock of emergency items in her cellar for such an incident as occurs in this recount. At times I have laughed at her but having read 'Before this is over' I am considering what I do have in my cupboards and how our own home with help us cope in a similar situation.......after all it is not so far fetched in our time of unknown viruses and overuse of antibiotics....who knows when this tale might be truth for any one of us (or all of us!) A great read which I was reluctant to put down.

This is the type of book that draws you in and really makes you think about how you would cope or act in a situation. How far would you be prepared to go to protect your family? It makes you realise how fragile our society is and how quickly it could all unravel. A sobering realisation.
I couldn't put this book down, I wanted to see how they fared and what the outcome was for the family. My only negative is that I didn't want it to have a happy ending! I wanted to follow the family for longer!

What an absolutely brilliant book!
I read this in a day and a half as I couldn't put it down, and I was both horrified and transfixed at what could really happen if an epidemic hit the world.
Hannah, although slightly on the cold side and a bit obsessive about things, is just like any other mother trying to protect her family from a nasty disease that is wiping out thousands, she is a survivor, a fighter and someone we can all relate to.
In fact the full family are great characters and so normal that it's almost like reading a biography rather than fiction.
I loved it, the storyline, the writing style, the characters and the pace were all great, I will definitely read more by this author.

Written as a diary, tracking the events for one family as a pandemic sweeps across the globe, this is a truly gripping story. Hannah, mother to Zach and Oscar, is anxious and well prepared as the disease takes hold. The daily story of how they cope, with dwindling food supplies, loss of water and then electricity, feels very real.
How the family copes, deals with dilemmas such as responsibility to neighbours, weighing honesty against survival, watching a slow decline, is fascinating.
Really well written, peppered with telling detail, well realised characters and challenging situations, this is a great and thought provoking read. Highly recommended.
I'm just off to restock my larder, install a waterbutt and sort out some solar panels!

4.5 stars for the overwhelming sense of dread this evokes. Shades of Josh Malerman's [book:Bird Box|18498558] but not the same.
While reading this book a pipe in my house sprung a leak and we had to shut off our water supply which made this story hit a little too close to home. Just kept thinking what would happen if the water never turns back on.
I'm off to buy some bottled water, phone batteries, MREs, and non perishable foodstuffs. Oh and toilet paper.

This book tells the story of a family as a virus sweeps the world. It is an easy read. I just expected more out of the story.

This is a very intense read as you can imagine. It makes you feel the claustrophobia and terror that this family experiences. Very interesting to read and I am now stock piling food!

This was certainly a thought provoking read. Very quickly I began to put myself in the place of the main female; at times I thought she was over cautious but none of us know how we would react placed in a similar situation. Some of the decisions the family made were difficult when they involved friends and neighbours, but were sensible choices. This book was very 'real' and although traumatic in places, it was hard to put down. Quite a different book from ones I usually read,. I enjoyed it very much and would recommend.

Oh gosh… I don’t know if this happens to everyone but since I got pregnant, anything related with kids is just too much for me. This is NOT a zombie book!
I couldn’t stop reading this book. I have several books in my to-do list that you will like it but this one was just very emotional. You read the book and got you thinking if you would do a little bit more than the Hannah or not… the fact is that probably not.
A fast paced thriller tat will make you think about vulnerabilities and about your family.
