Holiday in the Hamptons is the fifth book in the From Manhattan with Love series that’s written by the fabulous Sarah Morgan. Having been a huge fan of Sarah’s ever since I read the first book in the series, Sleepless in Manhattan, I couldn’t wait to get started with it. As I hoped and expected it would, Holiday in the Hamptons turned out to be a truly delightful book, that is perhaps my favourite of the series so far.
Holiday in the Hamptons allows us to find out more about Harriet and Fliss, twin sisters who live and work in Manhattan where they both own and run a very successful dog walking business. Whilst they are both happy and seem to enjoy life in Manhattan, when her ex-husband Seth appears on the scene Fliss wants nothing more than to run away and hide. So when their elderly grandmother suffers a fall and needs looking after in the Hamptons, Fliss jumps at the chance to escape from Manhattan. However, what she doesn’t realise is that Seth working in Manhattan was only ever a temporary measure and that he would soon be returning to his home in the Hamptons.
One thing that has to be said for this book is that Sarah has a real talent for creating characters who you can’t help but fall head over heels in love with. Throughout Holiday in the Hamptons, Fliss and Seth were two of these characters who worked really well together and I absolutely loved getting to know them both. I particularly enjoyed learning about Fliss’ background and the impact it had on her as a person today. The relationship that she had with both her twin sister and grandmother was fantastic and a real pleasure to read about.
As with all of the books in the From Manhattan with Love series, Holiday in the Hamptons is one that can very easily be read as a standalone novel thanks to Sarah’s wonderful way of really setting the scene for her readers and providing plenty of background information. Sarah’s fabulous writing style that I have truly grown to love over the series of books, is present throughout the entirety of Holiday in the Hamptons with plenty of moments that made me laugh and some that also brought a tear to my eye.
The one thing I have loved about all of the books in the From Manhattan with Love series to date is the way in which they always convey some really important messages that are both inspirational and uplifting. As a book that touches on a number of different themes, Holiday in the Hamptons, is a book that does exactly this with perhaps one of the most key messages for me being the importance of listening to those who truly value, believe in and feel positively about us.
Holiday in the Hamptons was a truly brilliant book and the perfect way to continue a series that I have adored so very much. As someone who read the book in the middle of autumn, it really did put a smile on my face and was my little bit of sunshine on a rainy day. I thoroughly recommend this and all other books in the From Manhattan with Love series and am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Moonlight over Manhattan very soon.
Loved it, another knock out by Author Sarah Morgan. Looking forward to Christmas already
How I love a Sarah Morgan novel! You know you're going to get your HEA ... and how you arrive there is always exciting :) Holiday in the Hamptons more than met my expectations.
It's not the hero who is flawed (although Seth does have emotional turmoil that he needs to find peace to live with) but Fliss. Fliss who has lived her life from a perspective that isn't the truth but something she's been led to believe since her earliest childhood memories. She has a lot to learn about herself before she can start getting over this barrier. And while her life looks good on the surface, she's never truly engaged with life.
It's not hard at all to feel drawn to a man who chooses to care for animals as a living is it? Healing the wounded :) I loved getting to know Seth and through him, how he views his family.
Once again, the characters take on real form and shape, living and breathing. Fliss' grandmother Eugenia provided some moments of humour and I felt pretty tense at one particular scene with Matilda and Fliss! Sarah Morgan is so skillful in bringing the reader into their lives, making you feel as if you are right there with them, experiencing everything they do.
Perspectives is a theme throughout the story (maybe you'll find yourself looking at your own experiences differently and asking what really motivated that person!). I think Holiday in the Hamptons is a lot grittier than the previous Sarah Morgan novels I've read. I loved it!
This is a lovely fun, romantic summer read. I really like the way that Sarah Morgan builds believable relationships from people with actual problems. Seth is a great romantic hero - strong, understanding, sexy and caring - I fell a little bit in love with him from the start. I had a few moments in this over Fliss's trust issues and at the start she did annoy me a little bit, but by the end I was totally won over by her and now I can't wait for Harriet's story.
What's not to like about a story with a couple of dog walkers! I should be so lucky as to have such a (potentially) fun job, though I'm sure it's harder than it sounds.
A story that reminds me of a traditional English farce. You can almost picture a character flitting back into scene with a jacket half-hanging off proclaiming, 'Dash it all. Missed her again!'. Yes, the lead character pretends to be her twin sister, with predicable (yet no more enjoyable for that, I hasten to add) jokularity (I don't know if that's a real word, but it should be). It's not often I laugh out loud when reading, but I did here.
This is my first Sarah Morgan book and I've since found out that this is a series. Guess what I now need to do? Find out what the rest of the books are and then read them, as soon as I can. Of course, this means I will have to re-read this one, so they're in the correct order. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it!
Another winner from Sarah. A gentle, sweet and fun read perfect for light poolside reading. My full review on my blog http://www.isthisreallife.co.uk/2017/07/book-review-holiday-in-hamptons-by.html
This is a good summer read. Fliss's ex is in New York, where she lives, so she returns to her Gran's holiday home, in the Hampton's, to help her out. Seth, her ex, is her first and only love and things between them ended badly. Seth returns to his vet practice in the Hampton's and he and Fliss meet again. Seth has always loved Fliss, so can they make their relationship work this time? Read on!
We all know Sarah Morgan is my favourite author and has been for a good while now, so when i spied this on netgalley i requested it, but i was even more excited when it landed on my floor mat i was even more excited. We are heading back to the From Manhattan with Love series for this book, and as usual it was nice to learn more about the characters we had met in the other books. This time - We get to know Fliss.
Fliss loves living in New York it is where she has made her home, but when finds out her Ex-Husband is back in the city, she flees - she doesnt want to bump into him, so when a family phone call comes along, and gives Fliss the perfect excuse to head to the coast for the summer - it can give her the perfect chance to escape.
However what Fliss doesn't know, is that Seth also lives on the coast - its almost like fate was bringing them back together. Giving them the chance they should of had all them years ago. Visiting the hamptions makes for a wonderful summer break. As per usual the characters are warm loving and loyal. Holiday in the Hamptons is a story again of real life love, true friendship and family.
Sarah Morgan as usual has created a narrative that warms the soul, and makes you want to stop by for a visit with the characters, and i just - i love it. I love every book she writes because you just step into this world that is so true to real life that you almost struggle to separate imagination to truth. Its just wonderful and i feel like the narrative doesn't need to be explained, its just a story of how long true love has really lasted.
You need to visit the Hamptons this summer!
Felicity knight and her ex husband Seth Carlyle are the main characters in this book. The story itself is your usual rom com kind of read but with Sarah Morgan it's always much much better. I think this is to do with the description of where they are, in this book you spend a lot of time on or near the beach and the descriptions were so good I swear I could smell the salty air! The character descriptions are fab you actually get to know them and pray for that happy ending. I liked how both characters were surrounded by extremely loyal friends and family and they played a part in this read.
Felicity knight has thrown herself into her own business that she shares with her twin sister, Harriet. This is to occupy herself so she can't dwell on the past even though it was 10 years ago. Fliss goes back to the hamptons to look after her gran whose coming out of hospital. Whilst there immediately runs into Seth and spends the beginning trying to avoid him. This is a book that has trust issues as its main scenario. The book is fun as well, as soon as fliss meets Seth again by accident she says she's her twin sister instead and although the reasons behind her doing that are quite sad it is funny to read how hard she tries to keep the pretence up.
I would like to thank netgalley and HQ for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
Fliss and Seth Knight married young and in haste but, after a personal tragedy, separated and divorced. Fliss has a dog-walking business and Seth is a vet. They do not see each other again for 10 years but when Fliss discovers that Seth has moved to a practice in New York which she uses, she takes the opportunity to leave the city to care for her grandmother in the Hamptons.
The author’s writing style is easy to read but not memorable though the characters were well drawn. Some parts of the plot seemed a little contrived although the story bounced along smoothly. There was no tension in the narrative and a change of pace would have improved the novel.
In brief, this is easy to read a romantic novel which would be great to read beside the hotel pool when on holiday. Anyone to whom this genre appeals would no doubt give it 4 stars as it’s an excellent example of its type.

Breakaway Reviewers received a copy of the book to review.
What a great summer read. Settle down to read it on a sun lounger with a cocktail in your hand!
Felicity and her twin sister Harriet have a thriving dog walking business and everything is going great until their brother Daniel tells Felicity that her ex Seth is back in town! Its been 10 years so surely she can cope with that she just needs to get the first meeting out of the way - he is working at the vets that they use so she is bound to bump into him!
Then after a phone call from her grandmother who has had a fall she runs to the Hamptons to look after her - purely for her grandmother of course! Arriving though the first person she bumps into is Seth.....he was only helping out a friend in Manhattan he has his own practice her in the Hamptons......so how is she going to avoid him for the rest of the summer!
Another lovely book in the Manhattan series I love Sarah Morgan's style of writing and the characters she introduces.....her grandmothers cronies the Poker Princesses were brilliant and the way Felicity thinks she can pretend to be her identical twin sister but no-one who knows her is fooled for a minute......definitely a book for the summer!
This has been my favourite book in the From Manhattan with Love series so far. This was an utterly charming second chances romance. It was full of touching moments and had a lovely emotional edge to it, however, there were lots of light hearted humorous moments to raise a smile. This was simply a perfect summer read.
This is one of those books where I just have to say, read the book not my review! Mind you, I think that’s true for all the books I've read by this superb author. Her characters are so brilliantly portrayed that they feel like people you know well and can relate to and the scenarios are brought to life within the pages of the story.
In this case, Felicity (Fliss) Knight is living with her sister, running a successful dog walking business in New York. It is ten years since she last saw her ex-husband, Seth Carlyle, but now he’s working as a vet in the nearby clinic which Felicity uses. The attraction is still there and it scares her so much that she jumps at the chance to go stay with her grandmother in the Hamptons . . . . only to discover that Seth’s job in New York was only temporary and he’s actually based in the Hamptons. He’s determined to rekindle their romance and to help Fliss realise just how great they can be together. With the help of some adorable dogs, her Grandmother and her friends together with many memories this is a beautiful romance to escape into. I loved it and have no hesitation in highly recommending this and other books by this very talented author.
I was gifted a copy of this novel and chose to read and review it. This is my honest opinion after reading the book.
Sarah Morgan has done it again with this fantastic story of love, friendship, strength and ridiculously gorgeous pets in HOLIDAY IN THE HAMPTONS.
Felicity Knight loves New York and her dog-walking business which she runs with her sister but when her ex-husband Seth appears, Felicity wants to run away and hide. Heading to the Hamptons to look after her grandmother, Felicity knows she is better off away from Seth. After all, it was over ten years ago since they were together and he is too good for her now, just like he was when they were younger. Struggling with so many emotions from the past, all Felicity wants is her animals but sometimes love has a way of finding you when you need it the most.
Seth Carlyle lost Felicity once when they were too young to realise what they had really lost, and he is determined to never make that mistake again. But can Seth prove to Felicity that taking a chance at love is worth the risk?
HOLIDAY IN THE HAMPTONS by Sarah Morgan is the 5th book in the From Manhattan With Love Series but can easily be read as a standalone novel. I really love the characters and their pets in this story, and Felicity was very well-developed as we began to learn about her childhood which has influenced her life in so many ways. She is fiercely protective but in keeping everyone at a safe difference, she is only hurting herself and those that love her. With a beautiful setting and plenty of action to hold your attention, HOLIDAY IN THE HAMPTONS by Sarah Morgan is a wonderful feel-good read that is sure to brighten up your day.
Really loved this book. The author gives the reader a wonderful view into the characters and the storyline. You realise how truly the author has written this book which is amazing. Can't wait for more from this author. Totally recommend this book. Left review on Amazon.uk
Fliss and Seth spent their summers together with their families in the Hamptons and belonged to the same group of friends. The night of Fliss’ eighteenth birthday, their friendship turned into something more and, after a whirlwind romance, they got married in Vegas. The marriage didn’t last long and, both heartbroken, they went their separate ways. Ten years later, when Fliss, a dog walker, finds out that Seth is working in her local veterinary clinic, she goes to hide in the Hamptons only to bump into him there. As she spends more time with him, Fliss starts wondering what could have happened if things had gone differently between them.
I am obsessed with the From Manhattan with Love series by Sarah Morgan. It features strong and independent women, the stories are compelling and addictive, and the setting of New York, or, in this case, the Hamptons, is atmospheric and romantic. This is the fifth book in the series and it explores not only the relationship between husband and wife, but also between parents and their children, between twins and between sister and brother, between grandparents and grandchildren, and what you would do to protect the people you love most. I have to say that Fliss and Seth have become my favourite couple in the series and I loved to see how their relationship developed and they learnt to trust each other. I enjoyed reading about the Poker Princesses, a group of octogenarian women who play poker for money, read steamy romance novels and give unsolicited love advice. A captivating and refreshing read that will make you dream of sandy beaches and summer holidays.
Review: Sarah Morgan has done it again. I adore her stories and this new series is no exception. I loved it.
Will Fliss have a perfect escape this summer? I defiantly found a perfect summer escape with this book. I fell in love all over again with Sarah Morgan's fantastic warm writing that completely draws you in to her world. Her series are full of knowledge of all the characters which is such a great skill as characters are referenced across her books.
This story follows Fliss and her ex-husband Seth as they re-connect with each other and both realise that the love they once shared had never gone away. There story is full of assumptions that had been made coursing the relationship to break down. They also went through some personal traumatic events (which I will not give away here) that also adds to their story. As the characters learn that communicating is also an important fact to a relationship rather than just the physical side their relationship develops in a new and stronger way. I enjoyed hearing how others actions have effected how Fliss has carried out her life shutting people out to protect herself.
Sarah Morgan has created a romantic, rich story that is a book I will read again and again along with her other books,
Sarah Morgan's books are a delight to read. The next one can not come soon enough.
This book is just perfect for laying at the side of a pool with or curled up in the chair because where ever you are you will glow inside, it is just one of those good feel factor books.
I have to say this is my first Sarah Morgan novel and although it is part of a series within another series I enjoyed it as a stand alone. Meet twins Harriet and Fliss that live and work in Manhattan, where they own and run a very successful dog walking business. They have always been very different, well not to look at as they are identical, but character wise. Harriet seems more the quieter, more timid and homely of the two where as Fliss is more of a tomboy in many ways and not so clever around the kitchen. Fliss was also married ten years earlier in The Hamptons, a beautiful coastal scenic place where the more affluent holiday or live. Fliss was only married 3 months before tragedy struck and she fled.
But God damn it there he was in the town where she lived and it only left her one option RUN!
So Fliss offs it to Grandma’s house in The Hamptons to get away only, yep darn that man he turns up and again. Well not just turns up, he is actually The Hamptons vet and owns a pretty lucrative business. Not to mention that he has filled out rather nicely since she last saw him and yep he spies her. I mean what could she do, yes she is all grown up so she should deal with it. Erm, don’t think so. So Fliss becomes Harriet and some of the things that happen really made me giggle, especially when Seth, the ex hubby, that knows who she is straight away and says nothing. No tricking grandma either she has her sussed too.
When this book didn’t make me laugh it made me smile and when I wasn’t smiling it made me cringe, in a good way. It is a story that is full of sparks and chemistry and somewhere along the line they will come together but it is a case of will the magnetic force between them pull them together or force them apart again. Whatever there is a lot of misunderstandings to be faced and dealt with because both of them are still stuck in a past they can’t move away from.
A lovely book full of everyday misunderstanding that you can so easily relate to.
*Advance copy of the book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
Having read and thoroughly enjoyed all of Sarah Morgan’s O’Neill Brothers, Puffin Island and From Manhattan with Love books I was really looking forward to reading this advance copy.
The story centres around Felicity ‘Fliss’ Knight and Seth Carlyle and their previous and current love story and also Felicity’s background which affects and limits her ability to commit to emotional relationships.
Whilst enjoying the story I did not feel it was as much a ‘page-turner’ as her other books and whilst enjoying reading about the development of the re-kindling of their love story I did not feel the empathy for Felicity that I felt for the heroines in Sarah Morgan’s other novels. However, I must add in support of the book that the passages that dealt with Fliss’s emotional scars resulting from her relationship with her father were well written and did make me feel sympathetic towards Fliss at some points in the book. It was very clear that this father-daughter relationship had left Fliss with very long term issues with commitment and whilst I felt sympathy I still felt a little impatient with her and her inability to separate this with from her current relationship with Seth.
The character of Seth I felt was much more believable and realistic and I was quite amazed with his patience with Fliss. I realise that this type of novel falls well within the ’chick-lit’ category and was not expecting a harrowing tale I did feel the whole thing was just a bit too two-dimensional and formulaic and to be honest I was not really invested in the ending at all. Indeed, the main parts I enjoyed were the parts that involved Felicity’s Grandmother and her friends and being updated on Seth’s friend Chase & his wife Matilda who were part of the From Manhattan with Love series.
