Last Breath by Robert Bryndza is the fourth book in the DCI Erika Foster series. This is my favorite crime thriller series and I am just in awe of the author. Bryndza is brilliant and I am totally hooked to this series. His books seem to be getting better which each new release. Seriously, everyone should read this series!

The story revolves around a series of gruesome murders. Young, beautiful women are being found dead in dumpsters. The only connection between them is a guy that they met online. The killer is introduced in the first chapters. You may wonder how the story proceeds if the killer is known from the start. What Bryndza did so brilliantly is to give the two perspectives concurrently. The killer goes about the crime spree as the investigation proceeds before the two inevitably collide. I kept waiting for the villain to be caught and it was interesting to see how the detectives were able to solve the mystery as the dots connected.

As always, the characterization was on point. DCI Erika is back and I liked her much more than in the last book. She is still tough but we get to see her other side more in this book. The character development through the series is just amazing. It feels like I am getting to know Erika better. The more I know her, the more I like her. Moss, Isaac and Peter are also back. This group is just awesome. I like their friendship and love seeing them work together.

There is a lot that goes on in the story. Erika has a few issues to sort out at work and in her own life. At the same time, the body count goes up. The killer managed to keep the cops guessing with very few clues left behind. I kept waiting for the villain to mess up but it seemed like it wasn’t happening. This kept me up last night up to 2:00am. The killer had to mess up and I couldn’t sleep until I saw how it would all end. I also liked the online angle. Cyber crime seems to be gaining popularity as technology evolves and it was interesting to see the author explore the use of social media in this mystery.

Last Breath by Robert Bryndza is my favorite book in the series so far. I have a feeling that the next book will soon be my favorite one because as I said, the books just keep getting better. This book has everything from a memorable villain to an awesome investigation team and mysterious murders. It was an addictive read from the first to the last page. I can’t wait to see how the series progresses.

it was amazing
bookshelves: 250-up-to-date ll

I don't have enough stars to give out on this one. It deserves more than 5.

This is the fourth book in the Detective Erika Foster Series set in London. I recommend to read this series in order. The books get better and better and are very addictive. I was jumping up and down with excitement when I got this copy from NetGalley. I just love this series and savor every minute when I read a book from this series.

A young woman is found tortured in a dumpster. Erica Foster is one of the detectives first on the scene. She starts out working on her own since she is no longer working for the Murder Investigation Team. She is determined to be involved in the investigation at all cost and convinced that she can bring the murderer to justice. She does this by working out who the killer is and why he is targeting these women in this chilling series of murders.

I really love the character development in this series. Erica Foster is still determined as ever. She is tough and stubborn. Her greatest struggles involve her inability to conform to authority and her apprehension at the growing intimacy with Peterson. Due to the loss of her husband she has built a very high wall around her but this high wall is starting to crumble down.

I loved this one the best of the series. I felt it was a bit darker than the previous books and the killer really creeped me out. I loved the grittiness, the twists and turns. This one definitely is not for the faint of heart. Very gripping and hard to put down. I can't wait for the next book and hope that I don't have to wait to long.

I want to thank Robert Bryndza, Netgalley and the publisher for the copy of this book in exchange for a honest
review.

5⭐️ Review for Erika and a Social Media Nightmare!!

So Erika Foster returns in this new and amazing installation of in Robert Bryndza's electric series! This is another well-written and extremely well paced story, as I've personally come to expect from the writer but surprisingly I read this in record time- less than 24hrs! Dark Water was my personal high point but Last Breath steals the crown! It's a book that truly sucks you in and refuses to let your brain go free until you finish!!! My own baby (whose name is Erika- can you guess why?) enjoyed her bedtime feed whilst I shamelessly followed another Erika around!

This book has a fantastic group of characters, and finely balances the work and pleasure aspects of them- Erika in this book is revealed even further; perhaps even showing a warmer side than ever before. Despite this softer side being revealed, she is still the kick-ass Erika we have all come to know and love! Her ability to become SIO despite rubbing every superior up the wrong way with her rule breaking is miraculous but her selection of Moss, McGorry, Crane et al makes this story familiar! The crime however is your typical modern nightmare, social media becomes the perfect hunting ground for twisted piece of work, entrapping gorgeous females! He's not Prince Charming that's for certs, torture rather than tiffins is on his mind! Almost uniquely in Last Breath, the identity of this creep is known quite early on, you get to view things from his twisted perspective and the cat and mouse aspect makes for riveting reading!

Bryndza's style of pacing and dripping information to Erika and her colleagues makes the story flow elegantly, in fact I'd say it whips up the last quarter of the book into a reading frenzy! When the end comes; you're hit with conflict, the end is running at you full throttle and you want to see it through but you at the same time the end means saying goodbye to Erika and co again!

So in concluding this is an outstanding effort once again, Erika is revealed more and ok she gets away with a little more than is perhaps possible in reality but for me she's a absolute hero and I'd let her away with more. I cannot wait for more from the author, the Erika Foster series has become my crime fiction favourite!

A note to newbies: this series doesn't need to be followed in order, but if you'd like to chart character development then start with Girl in the Ice! Read all and don't look back!

This series just gets better and better. A seat of your pants storyline - keeps you turning the pages to find out more. Cannot wait for the next book and I've not felt that about a series in a long time. Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the chance to read this book.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my advance reader copy of this book. Wow, what can I say? Every time I read the latest Robert Bryndza book I think it’s the best so far and wonder how he will top it with the next book, but he always does. Yet another gripping crime thriller that keeps you hooked and guessing to the end. Keep them coming Robert!

This is the fourth Erika Foster novel, and each one gets better and better.
A young girl is found dead in a dumpster, having been brutally murdered and Erika Foster is desperate to be involved in the case. Stuck in a desk position in Bromley after being passed over for promotion she uses her wits to make it to MIT, she knows she can solve the case.

More murders are linked to the recent one, and more girls begin to go missing, but the killer is careful and is leaving no clues. She knows he will slip up but as the body count gets higher time is not on her side.

Relationship dynamics within the team alter, people reveal a different side and the course of Erika's career develops in a way she doesn't expect, but she remains hell bent on catching this murderer before anything else - alongside her team (which are wonderful in their own rights.)

Last Breath literally doesn't take a breath all the way through, it is fast paced and edgy, and keeps you turning the pages relentlessly, as with all Bryndza's books.

Although Last Breath is the 4th in the Erika Foster series, you can read it as a standalone, but you will be itching to read the rest after.

I think it’s fair to say that Robert Bryndza has done it again with this, the latest, in the Erika Foster series. Still stuck behind a desk in Bromley, Erika is missing her former role in the murder investigation team. Her application to go back, though, has been turned down – and she’s angry about it, no more so than when she’s summarily dismissed from a crime scene.

The scene – the body of a young woman has been found in a dumpster, badly beaten and tortured. She has been missing for only a few days and Erika’s gut is telling her that the killer is likely to strike again. The problem is no one wants to hear, not least the head of the murder investigation team (and her former adversary), even when she gets as close to begging as she can get and uncovers evidence his team haven’t.

Then, in twist I won’t share for spoilers, she gets given the opportunity to become senior investigating officer and the chase is on for a killer who is becoming more prolific and more violent. As a reader, you know who he is, what he plans to do next and you see him spiralling. It all adds to the tension as you also watch Erika and her team struggle to follow the clues, hoping for a lucky break and praying that they get to the latest missing girl in time.

And it is tense, from page one, and not letting up right until the very end. The killer is suitably evil and just to say smart enough to keep ahead of the police (for a while at least), making my skin crawl more than a little. And Erika is her usual brilliant self, trying hard not to be self-destructive for once but not doing too well at it.

The mix of tough and vulnerable in her is something I like in my characters. She isn’t a complete hard-ass, is liked and admired by her team, but her past has left her damaged and with a hard outer shell. She wants to break out but it’s hard. Still, we get to see a little of that in this story, making her and her team more real than ever.

As for the story itself, you couldn’t ask for more really. It’s a cracking read from start to finish. These are all things I’ve said about other books in the series but here it is again – it was well written, had great pace (I read it in a day which is rare for me), great characters – event the bad guy was well rounded (see creepy killer above), and kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Can I say any more? I don’t think so – I loved this and really recommend it.

Big Thank you to NetGallery for letting me read Last Breath by Robert Bryndza. . This is the 4th book of this series of Detective Erika Foster.

So, Grab your self a coffee, sit in a comfy chair and start to read the next instalment's of Detective Erika Foster. I have read and enjoyed Robert’s last 3 books but this book is the best so far.

Detective Erika Foster has been removed from the murder investigation team and is not happy in her new role in a different police station and is drowning in administrative paperwork.

A body of a young woman is found dumped in a dumpster and has been badly beaten, her clothes are soaked in blood from multiple lacerations on her body.
Detective Foster was in the right place at the right time when a former colleague brings her fish and chips round and his phone goes off.
Detective Foster wants to tag along.

Erika can be rude and sometimes not a team player but gets good results in the end.

Detective Foster works on her own initiative and worked out that this murder has similar things to an unsolved case from last year and takes it to Superintendent Sparks who is on the case. He has other ideas and he doesn’t want her anywhere near the case. Etc. There’s bad blood between them from the past but this does not stop Detective Foster.
Sadly Superintendent Sparks has a Heart attack and this opens the door for this latest case for her.

Another young girl goes missing and is found the same way in the early hours of the morning by a resident who doesn’t sleep much whilst putting his rubbish out.

This killer is brutal, and he keeps his victims captive so close to his parent’s home farm. He tortures them for several days until he finally administers the final blow.

This book made me think how easy it can be, to become someone else by using social media – Facebook etc. It also made me think how much we all share on these and other people you don’t know, can read your page etc. without you even knowing. “Are your settings on these highest privacy settings? I wonder?”

This book is a page-turner and Robert’s books get better and better. I have enjoyed them all but this one was far the best in the series. I read this in a couple of sittings and my Hubby had to make his own tea!

So get cosy. Open the book and ENJOY……..

This has been posted on Goodreads and Amazon UK. Plus, I have informed Robert of the review on Facebook x

I was late to the party with Robert Bryndza as is debut released in Feb 2016 and it took me until May of that year to get started. The benefit to that was that I didn't have to wait long between books thank goodness. It's an extremely addictive series and Erika is a character that I think many fans have fallen in love with. She has an unease as an individual especially since the loss of her husband Mark, a fellow copper. It seems the walls are up and she is determined to push herself when it comes to her career. This makes for a tenacious and fearless character with an edge of vulnerability. The start if the book sees Erika struggling as she is working outside of the Murder Team and is instead stationed behind a desk. That alone didn't sit right with me, however when she happens to be with her colleague Peterson she attends a new murder scene with him. Before you know it she has the bit between her teeth and practically drags herself back onto a case.

Alongside Erika she manages to grab her selected team which consists of Peterson, Moss, Crane and John (all of whom I love) and between them they set themselves up to find the person responsible for this latest murder. Young girls are being found in dumpsters however for once the reader knows exactly who has done it. The killer is revealed early on and it's almost like a game of cat and mouse as you see the killer and his actions, followed by a timeline with Erika hot on his heels. For me, the only difference between this book and the last (especially in terms of rating) is that this was a little slower to start. Seeing Erika stuck and not able to do anything felt like it had no place and as such I struggled with the first few chapters. Of course by the time I Erika has firmly placed herself front and centre that feeling left as quick as it had arrived.

The rest of the book absolutely flew by and one thing that stood out is that we get to see the real Erika more so in this book that in previous ones. It's endearing to see her try to overcome her issued and as a reader you cannot help but root for her no matter what. I always have an element of fear when reading books I love so much as I'm always scared somebody I love will get killed, and this latest book was no exception. A thrilling, absorbing and exciting read that will have Bryndza fans weeping for joy the world over. Another cracking read and I, along with everyone else, will be waiting with baited breath for book 5.

DCI Erika Foster is in a new job- and hates it. She has put in for a transfer back to MIT(murder investigation team) and been rejected. She is with one of her old colleagues when a call comes in about a body found in a dumpster so she goes to help out- and is reprimanded for it. When an old adversary takes a turn for the worse things change and so does the investigation. This is one of those books that grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go. Erika is a force to be reckoned with and an excellent lead character that you can’t help liking. This is part of a series but will stand alone, however why miss out on the others? As ever this is very well written so that you can see the scenes in your mind’s eye and be there with the characters. We know a little of their personal lives to enable the reader to know the character in depth. Short punchy chapters keep the pace flowing at a nice speed. Nothing to put you off your dinner, but an excellent engaging story to keep you turning. There are crime writers and there are excellent crime writers- Robert Bryndza is one of them. A stunning, highly enjoyable read.
I voluntarily chose to read this ARC and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased

Robert Byrznda has hit another grand slam with his newest installment in the Erika Foster series, the fourth in this series. ! The fast paced police procedural thriller has an interesting premise. The antagonist was revealed at the 33% mark in the novel, which was disconcerting: we know the "whodunit" so early on, so what will be exciting about the 66% rest of the book? I was so wrong! There are plenty of red herrings and twists which engaged this reader to the very end! Particularly noteworthy is the author's exceptional use of characterization. Although action spurs the plot forward, it is the interaction of the dynamic, round characters who enhance the enjoyment for this reader...and sets this series apart! It is a mark of great tradecraft to immerse readers into an interesting storyline as well as develop characters to the point where readers have a vested interest in them! ! Bravo on both accounts! Detective Erika Foster is a likable character, and it is fascinating to observe how she ferrets out the minuscule and mundane details, adds them up, and develops a hypothesis! Last Breath has an exciting climax and a very satisfying denouement. Although Last Breath can be read as a stand alone, this reader suggests reading the series in order to fully appreciate the intricacies and intimacies of the protagonist. I did take a star off the rating because of the lack of characterization of the antagonist; his motives psychopathology is not developed.

Copy furnished by Net Galley for the price of a review.

Someone is checking you out in a big way on the internet. He is about to finagle his way into your life, and all you did was share some photos on social media. He is friending your friends, scrolling through your photos and postings, perusing your details, learning all about you. Can you feel it? He is not who he says he is, and his profile pic does not reflect his mean piggy eyes, sharp tiny teeth, or weak chin. Pray that you are not his "type". A date with him is not going to end well for you.

I love the angle of being privy to the identity of the killer from the get-go. Erika Foster is back, still rankling her superiors, still speaking her mind regardless of the consequences. She simply isn't willing to bend to departmental politics and it inevitably works against her. Luckily, the wins she scores in the results column make up the difference for the trouble she stirs up. Her team still shines. A confrontation with her nemesis, Superintendent Sparks, starts things off with a bang. This series is primo!

Last Breath is the 4rth book in the Erika Foster series. And just like the other books in the series, this one does not disappoint. A woman's badly beaten body was found in a dumpster. Erika is one of the first responder on the scene even though she is no longer on the Murder Investigation Team. Since this is not her investigation, she decides to do her own inquiry and she finds similar comparison to a previous case. The police have a suspect in custody but do they have the right man that killed both women? Erika is fiery, strong-willed and guarded. Her determination is what makes her a likable character.

This book was an intense thriller. I highly recommend it if you enjoy crime fiction.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Robert Bryndza for the opportunity to read and review "Last Breath".

I left reading 'Last Breath' until the last-minute as after reading the prologue a few weeks back, I found myself being a humongous wuss. As I'm sure you're aware by now, thriller/killer novels haven't always been at the top of my radar so when I do actually read one, i'm hopping, skipping AND jumping over my comfort zone line. I really had no idea what to expect with the latest Erika Foster novel, hell, I haven't even read the previous ones! It was that apprehension which made me wait after all,  I needed to read the book anyway for my blog tour stop! After giving myself a kick up the youknowwhat -  I sat down to read the 'Last Breath' on the 10th April, the 10th April saw me finish the novel as well.

Yes, it took me a matter of hours to read.

OH.MY.GOD
OH.MY.GOD
OH.MY.GOD
THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as I re-read the prologue I was absolutely hooked. I even had to pause and think to myself, 'wait brain, you usually twat about right about now!?'. But I didn't twat about, in fact, I just kept reading and cursed under my breath when my bladder required emptying, or my little person required food for the 17575738596th time that day. I JUST WANTED TO READ GODDAMMIT!

I can't even summarise the storyline because I know I would end up typing something I shouldn't. Every single piece of information needs in this book needs to be experienced through your very own eyes. It's all well and good someone saying 'oh my god it was so intense!', if you haven't experienced it for yourself. Plus, there aren't enough adjectives to describe JUST how brilliant this storyline is. Being told that it is 'an intense read' does not do the book justice at all.

My heart felt as though it was going to pound out of my chest at around the halfway point, I was unable to think rationally, and my hand was getting so tired from being raised to my mouth, that it just rested against my cheek ready for the next 'mouth open' moment. The descriptions weren't gorey in a horrible, scary kind of way; they were gorey in a way that shocked me yet taught me something. That sounds daft but I really had no idea about certain circumstances until now.

I kept fidgeting on the sofa whilst I was reading, as I had a horrible feeling that Erika Foster and her team were going to be too late. But as soon as that thought crossed my mind, something else happened. At that moment in time I felt like I was watching the drama unfold with my very own eyes as though I was able to see the scenery for myself, being able to smell an accumulation of aftershave and perfume mixed with car fumes. It was so surreal. The more vivid the imagery became in my mind, the more on edge I became and a mixture of anger, disgust and apprehension took over.

Have I said that I was hooked by the storyline? Haha.

After reading 'Last Breath' I cannot believe that I have never read an Erika Foster novel before. She is such a kick ass, mouthy and on point detective; I loved her!! Pardon the pun but 'Last Breath' too MY breath away. Never mind the X-Factor, Robert Bryndza has the SHOCK factor and my goodness he is PHENOMENAL at creating such nail-biting, intense and flawless storylines.

'Last Breath' is most definitely a book NOT to be missed. This book is full of complexity, suspense and kick ass characters, and to top it off, it also has a storyline which starts off brilliant yet it gets even better with every turn of the page. I never knew that was possible.

A unbelievably gritty, spell binding, intense read which is FULL to the brim of 'hand in mouth' moments. Absolutely incredible. I feel like I've missed out by not reading Robert's previous novels in the series, but thanks to his AHHHHHHHMAZING novel, I will be binging on the rest of Erika Foster for Easter, no joke.

I think some of the books on my 'top books ever' list will be getting shunted down a peg or two! Move aside as Mr.Bryndza has now got a place on TWG's most favourite books EVER.

Huge thanks to Bookouture!

Last Breath (Detective Erika Foster #4) by Robert Bryndza
4.5 stars!!!!

“Her last evening. Her last breath.”

Oh, how I have missed DCI Erika Foster. Robert Bryndza delivers once again, a fast, action packed, gripping, suspense filled thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat throughout and at the epi centre as ever is our tough as nails DCI, Erika Foster.

In Last Breath, Erika is struggling in her new role and the boredom is well and truly setting in, Erika is definitely not destined to do a desk job. When Peterson gets a call while Erika is with him about a body being found in a dumpster, once again, Erika’s nose begins to twitch and her inherent coppers instinct kicks in and it isn’t long before she has herself situated as the senior investigating officer.

The characters that we have come to know and love are ever present and Erika takes no time in re-assembling the team that she trusts. Robert Bryndza tackles the ever-present worry of social media in this book as the serial killer in Last Breath uses these tools to find and trap his victims. I certainly am dreading the time that my kids want a social media presence as you never know who is actually watching. This message was well done and expertly delivered without overpowering the story.

In Last Breath, the reader is given the identity of the killer very early on and Robert Bryndza gives the reader a front row seat into the investigation itself where Erika and her team are in the dark and are slowly unearthing clues piece by piece. This shifted the dynamic in this book and was actually well executed and as the suspense builds page by page the reader is swept along for the ride.

“They’d never know exactly what happened…in those seventeen minutes. It was as if she vanished into thin air.”

The pace of this book was perfect and I couldn’t put it down. Every word, every page had me captivated and on the edge of my seat. The building suspense and the constant worry that this would be “the one that got away” was ever present and as our clever and intuitive serial killer seemingly gets away with murder time and time again you are just waiting for mistakes to be made. Erika is like a pit bull though and with the bit firmly between her teeth and with her tenacity and perseverance the serial killer doesn’t stand a chance.

With office politics and the constant battles of senior management Erika has her work cut for her but I loved the fact that Erika’s character development in particular was really a focal point in this book. Erika’s emotions and her softer side are there for all to see and this was an extremely welcome addition as we finally get to see that Erika is made of skin and bone like the rest of us. Erika has always been a closed book, but with the few pages that she shared in this book I am hoping that this is the beginning of a few new chapters and Erika finally opens herself up to the possibility of more on a personal level.

“…you might have been handed your superior rank by brown nosing, but you have to earn authority.”

Once again Robert Bryndza delivered and I cannot wait for the next instalment. This is firmly becoming one of my favourite thriller series.

“So you nagged him to death?”

The 4th book in the Erika Foster series. Erika’s great – a outwardly ballsy, Slovakian-born detective living in the UK, with a past that prevents her forming personal relationships. Moved to a ‘desk job’ she hates, she fights to return to the central Murder Investigation Team when the mutilated body of a young woman is found in a dumpster on the outskirts of London. She gets personally and emotionally involved in every case that moves her, leading to further destruction of her (inner) fragile self. (Not outer – that’s a prickly porcupine!) She’s determined to do right by the victims of violent crime and can’t curb her direct approach and sharp tongue when she comes up against bureaucracy in any form. She’s a brilliant character, totally dedicated to her job - and you’re rooting for her all the way!

Robert Bryndza’s characters, storytelling, tension, atmosphere, build-ups, clues and twists - all written in such a fluid, easy to read style have me hooked! He (and Peter James’s Roy Grace books) are the only 2 authors where I’ve got so excited, I have to read paragraphs again because my brain can’t keep up with my eyes because I NEED TO KNOW what happens next! Out of breath? Definitely!

Crime professionals ‘aren’t supposed’ to get involved with their cases (with good reason) but you know this is a line she crosses every time she feel justice needs to be done; this, particularly when it’s so vile a crime and perpetrated upon vulnerable, naïve, happy young women with their whole futures ahead. And yes, you also see the burnout, exhaustion and emotional instability this causes her. There’s also a cautionary tale in here about social media and the vulnerabilities it can cause when utilised without caution.

At the end of the book, the author talks of his blog, asking ‘what next for Erika? Should she settle down? ‘ (not saying how, that’d be a spoiler) and I so want her to be happy again. BUT I love this emotionally damaged, argumentative, stroppy cow. I applaud her bloody-minded determination. I’m not ready for her to get comfortable and boring, she’s far too interesting while she’s hurting – what an incredibly selfish thing for me to write…!

Just when I thought the Erika Foster series couldn't get any better, Robert releases his latest, Last Breath and I'm off on that rollercoaster ride again holding tight and screaming to go faster.

This one starts with the body of a young girl who has been reported missing, being found in a dumpster, horrifically beaten and has bled to death from her injuries, Erika manages to get herself back on the Murder Investigation Team to try and help solve this murder and the possibility that this isn't the first victim. She and the team are faced with many stumbling blocks along the way but they are determined to catch the killer and bring him to justice.

Robert Bryndza brings these stories together so effortlessly and seamlessly, they are pure genius! I cannot wait to see more from his characters and highly recommend anyone that hasn't yet read this series to get out there and buy them. If you like a fast paced, edge of your seat gritty thriller which forces you to hold your breath at every twist and turn, then this is the series for you. I would like to thank Robert and the publishers, Bookouture for the auto approval and will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon UK & US and Twitter on publication day. A massive 5 stars from me!

I received s free ecopy of this book in return for an honest review. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity.
Whenever i hear that Robert Bryndza is releasing a new Erika Foster book, I rub my hands together with glee because I know I'm in for a treat. This is the fourth book in the series and it does not disappoint. The book follows some of the usual crime tropes (the tired detective on the outs, the escalating serial killer) but it is well written and ratchets up the tension chapter on chapter to an almost unbearable level. I would certainly advise readers to clear the decks and prepare for a very late night or two before you start this book.
As this series of books unfolds, Erika's character and relationships are slowly developing, as are those of some of the lesser characters. Enticingly Robert Bryndza is active on twitter. He loves hearing from fans and is open to suggestions regarding the future of his characters. It is a neat perk for fans reading the books as they are published to feel that they could influence the storyline of their favourite detective.

Every time a new book from the Detective Erika Foster series is released, I think it can’t top the others… but every time I finish that book I think: "that was another excellent read!"

Last Breath, like the others, follows DI Erika Foster and her colleagues, and is wonderfully written and packed full of action and intrigue. In this novel, however, I feel like we get to see another, slightly less abrasive, side of Erika. Her relationship with Peterson continues, and she struggles with trying to let someone new into her life after losing her husband, showing new emotions and feelings. I really felt for her at times.

The story itself is fast-moving, full of adrenaline and fun to read, as this series always is! There are twists and turns along the way and surprises to keep the reader guessing, though we learn fairly early on who is likely to be behind the various murders plaguing the area. However, this doesn’t take away from the tension and excitement of the novel and the case that the team try to solve. There’s also the amusing comments from the detective team, which readers have grown to expect and enjoy.

This novel grabs you by the collar, draws you into Erika and the team’s fast-paced (and at times dangerous) world, and leaves you satisfied at the end but still wanting more. Bring on book 5!
