For a small island there are certainly an awful lot of ways a person can disappear...

Suspenseful, and with an often unreliable feeling narrator, there is plenty to keep you misdirected, guessing and repeatedly turning pages to see if you are right (or clueless) like me. With a paradise setting there's plenty to drag you into this great read.

I thought it was good how there was a twist at the beginning where you think Jemma and Dan are together as it keeps going back in the past when actually her husband is Dan's brother Jamie.

I kept looking for clues at their history to see why the husband could have disappeared and any problems they had as a couple as the husband could have chosen to disappear too. 

It did become quite repetitive with Jemmas perspective when he goes missing.

Jemma really wanted to be married to Jamie but then as soon as they were getting married at the altar she didn't want to marry him anymore. I didn't understand how she changed her mind about him so quickly and didn't love Jamie as soon as they were married. I was so confused at this point but this is explained later on that something happens the day before the wedding. However, I still think that the way Jemma acted with Jamie was a bit cold as if she didn't even like him as a person anymore.

There were a few suspects that you think could have had something to do with Jamie's disappearance so it didn't make the story too obvious of what happened.

I was right about my suspicions of the person responsible for Jamie's disappearance but I couldn't believe the ending of how it happened!!

It is hard to rate a book highly when one dislikes the main character. I found the arrival of the brother to be well written, as it was not clear who she had ended up with, but after that I lost interest a bit. The ending to me was a little, well a lot, too outrageous to please the reader, so I guess full marks for originality but low marks for turning a mystery into horror.

The twist was really good. I don't think the main character was very easy to engage with. Three stars because of the twist.

Sorry for late review - just catching up after a busy few months. Loved this book a lot - the author never fails to deliver a great story with great characters and really well written. No wonder it's recommended so much by so many different people. Will definitely read more by this author. Had me wondering right until the end.

I really enjoyed this book and finished it within a few hours. I thought the flashbacks flowed well with the current storyline however I feel that the ending was very long winded with lots of different scenarios happening at once. Overall, a well written thriller with a unique ending.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

The honeymoon by Tina Seskis is a good, fast paced thriller that I enjoyed reading.

Mysterious thrillers tend to be what I crave during the summer months. There’s something weirdly relaxing about them and I love playing detective. When I heard about The Honeymoon, I immediately requested it from NetGalley and was delighted when I got approved. I’ve never read a Tina Seskis book before but I’m pretty sure I will again!

Jemma is on honeymoon in the beautiful paradise that is the Maldives. The island has always been her dream honeymoon destination and she’s here with her brand new husband. So she should be in a state of wedded bliss, shouldn’t she? But he has vanished without a trace after a night of drunken stupidity. His scuba diving mask, snorkel and flippers have gone too. The search has begun but Jemma has no idea who she can trust -perhaps not even herself.

Who doesn’t love an unreliable narrator? The phrase may as well have been invented to describe Jemma. Almost from the very start, I took a bit of a dislike to her. She comes across as superficial, fickle and at times unfairly critical but you’re not supposed to like her. Seskis presents a narrator who is fascinatingly unlikeable. Even though you’re not connecting with her on a personal level or anything like that, she is intriguing and obviously suspicious which makes her irresistible to established psychological thriller fans.

The Honeymoon is not short on twists. In fact, the first one (no less than 20% in) physically startled me and I actually had to go back through the book to see if I’d missed something huge just to check that I’d got it right. Turned out that it was the first of many curveballs that Seskis’ clever writing had managed to throw past me.

While the search is taking place, Jemma’s narrative constantly switches from typical hysterically anxious bride to a woman who has accepted the inevitable and is already trying to move on. There were several points where she didn’t strike me as a woman whose husband had suddenly gone missing -almost as if she’d have preferred to come to the island alone. Of course, this often disinterested attitude is another piece of evidence against Jemma being the culprit but still, there’s an unshakeable feeling that perhaps she is innocent.

Between chapters set on the island, we get a third-person perspective of Jemma’s last eight years. We build up a picture of how Jemma came to be married to her husband and the complications of their relationship. There are a few romantic passages such as the one above but they are few and far between -and not always with the expected partner! The way she expresses love and affection is so stilted and often cold that it becomes obvious that she has problems with it. Again, Seskis vividly paints her narrator as a possible suspect in her husband’s disappearance.

As the book races towards the end, fellow honeymooners Chrissy and Kenny who Jemma is friendly with also seem to be suspects in the case. Their presence in the novel appears to be for the purpose of illustrating that even the most ‘perfect’ couple have their conflicts and also to throw yet more possibilities into the mix.

The Honeymoon constantly plays with the reader’s mind. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, something happens or someone says something that completely throws your theory out of the window. The final twist leaps out of the trees like a terrifying monster that you never imagined in your wildest darkest nightmares. I am still thinking about the ending and I think I will be for a very long time. It actually prompted me to do a little bit of Googling to try to see where Seskis had got her inspiration. It was so gruesome and unexpected that I felt it must have been based on truth, as surely no one could have imagined such a finish. I didn’t find an awful lot on the matter so whether it was based on truth remains to be seen. Thoroughly disturbing and incredibly addictive, The Honeymoon is a must-read this summer for those who love a mystery but who have a strong stomach.

I am not usually a big fan of psychological thrillers, but I enjoyed this. There is just the right balance between the characters' internal landscapes and plot, and it was easy to identify with what was going on and the emotions involved. A book where you always want to keep on reading to find out what is going to happen next.

I’ve been a fan of Tina Seskis since her very first book and have been suitably stunned by her jaw dropping twists.

When Jemma’s husband goes missing on their Maldives honeymoon, the reader appears to be as much in the dark as Jemma. It’s a small island, it’s hard for him to be missing for too long unless he has secretly left the island? Or accidentally drowned? – with many possible scenarios, there is plenty of scope for speculation.

Going back and forth in time from over 7 years before to the present day, we are drip-fed the history of their relationship and are given insights into their personalities.

Many of the characters are unlikeable, Jemma included. There were times when she seemed rather unhinged and she was the ultimate unreliable narrator. What I couldn’t decide, was she as untrustworthy as she often appeared. Of course to add to the confusion, she wasn’t the only person I was suspicious of.

Missing husband stories have been done plenty of times before but there is something rather different about this one. There are of course the inevitable twists and surprises but the clever plotting and curveballs certainly make for an intriguing and entertaining read - and as for the ending…..! Well. You need to read it for yourself!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! The internal monologue of the main character was interesting. I found the ups and downs and her mood swings a touch scary, but you can see why the story holds an edge because of this.

The story moves along at a good pace and you do wonder what happened and what’s coming next. Good twists and turns!

I found the ending a little bit of a let down. It was all a little too neat.

I got the impression from the synopsis that this was going to be a detective thriller. Unfortunately too much time was spent dealing with emotions of, to me, an annoyingly spoilt 30 something and her relationships with two brothers. One did end up dead and I hoped for the development of more of a detective feel. Wrong. More of her emotions, angst and guilt trips. I had no sympathy with her at all and rapidly decided that, if that is an exaggeration of 'modern woman' then I'm glad I'm in the next generation. Not my sort of book at all. It was well written though with few grammatical or spelling errors so I'm thankful at that level. Doubt I'll be looking at other books from this author. Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy; I'm just glad I didn't buy it!

I enjoyed this book and the setting in the Maldives. I didn't particularly like the main character though and the ending was a bit of a surprise and felt a bit rushed.

Jemma is on her honeymoon in paradise. The island is amazingly beautiful, the ocean is crystal clear teeming with underwater life, the resort staff fall over themselves to bring them anything and everything they desire, the food and drinks are delicious and endless in supply. But Jemma is not happy. She’s scared and guilty and her memory is questionable and none of it feels real... because her brand new husband, who she should be relaxing with right now, is missing. Gone without a trace. And suspicious eyes are now falling on her.

The Honeymoon had me gripped from the start. Initially told from Jemma’s perspective both now on the island and before the honeymoon, over the years of meeting her husband and how they got to where they are now. Then we slowly start to get the perspective of the people who met Jemma on her honeymoon, what they saw and thought about her and what happened on the island.

The Honeymoon revealed everything at just the right moment and made it impossible for me to put down! I even sat at work thinking about when I’d get chance to get back to reading it!

The book slowly introduces a whole host of possible scenarios and suspects and even at the end, we’re thrown a complete curveball as to the truth of what happened. The book is mostly set on the Maldivian island where Jemma is on honeymoon but when she returns to the UK, time moves on and we eventually find out just what happened through the perspective of her husband and the other people on the island at the time.

A scandalous little read from Tina Seskis that will have you gripped from the beginning!

It seems to be the case with most books that get released these days that they are so so predictable. This one has a bit more about it, but still, its nothing that i havent read before.
