Very good book, complicated but enjoyable and with an ending I hadn't expected.
I was totally involved with this book from the first page. A rather neurotic main character who I couldn't entirely make out right to the end, the dreadful Mother-in-law, sibling rivalry and so many co-incidences throughout. I did nor expect the ending at all.
I was lucky enough to be approved to read an early copy of this book. I dont normally read alot of thrillers but Im glad i did. It gripped from the first page and did not let go until the last. I always think i know where a book is headed but I was completely wrong. A fantastically atmospheric thriller that casts a shadow on an otherwise idyllic holiday destination. Will definitely recommend to friends and family
The story revolves around a Honeymoon in a six star resort in the Maldives, the events leading up to the honeymoon and the disappearance of the bridegroom. It is a gripping read, despite the fact I did not like the heroine at all., and kept me page turning to find out what had happened. The ending when it came was truly horrible and I hadn't seen it coming at all. An exciting read and thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to review it.
I read this on holiday & if I hadn't been enjoying myself on the beach I don't think I would even have finished it! That said if I hadn't got to the end I would have missed the silliest ending I have ever read!
Excellent book which tells the tale of a honeymoon couple in the Maldives and what follows after the husband disappears. The book keeps you in suspense and keeps you guessing! Excellent book and I would recommend!!!!
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book as an arc.
Jenna and her husband are on their honeymoon in the Maldives, paradise for some, but when Jenna's husband goes missing, their whole relationship is under scrutiny.
I really enjoyed the back story to this, set in London before the wedding, the first twist didn't come as a shock but then I'm not sure it was meant to. I did think Jenna was a pain in the neck though, she just couldn't commit to a seemingly ideal relationship because she was just waiting for things to go wrong. The honeymoon part was good too and the friendship they struck up with the Essex couple veered into Abigail's Party territory which was quite funny in parts. However, the story got very very dark and omg that ending! One of these you had to reread because you couldn't quite believe what you were reading! Definitely an ideal holiday read!
I remember calling Tina Seskis an evil genius in a tweet as soon as I'd read this book. I did not expect that ending and it was a gripping gruesome one but having stayed up till the early hours to finish this book, I was not disappointed! Far from it, it was a brilliantly claustrophobic and chilling read. That Jemma! ooh she was a one and I had my doubts about everyone I met on that island. The fact it was a kind of 'locked door' mysteries on a paradise island worked really well and it was definitely up there with the best of the thrillers I've read.
The story of the present day was mixed with the story of the past -that of how Jemma and her husband got together - there's some secrets in that background which when the book flips to the present day adds to the building tension. What would you do miles from anywhere if your husband goes missing? The secrets and lies just piled up building mountains of lies in the sand - oh and when that sandcastle was kicked at the end...that's where the Evil Genius name came to me. Taunt and fresh and very unique...all of the elements of premise, location and backstory worked extremely well and this is definately a thriller to watch out for!
I will post this review on the booktrail.com/booktrails/thehoneymoon nearer pub date and on GR, Amazon etc
The early twist was good, but the extended coverage of the honeymoon was too protracted and the ending was just too far fetched.
I couldn't put this down. It gripped me from the beginning and i really didn't know how it was going to end.
The main character was hard to read despite most of the story being told from her perspective which meant you never really knew what was going on. It led up to a totally surprising twist, one i would never have guessed. Highly recommend.
This was a light and easy read, gripping in some places but a little repetitive and slow in others. I found the writing style slightly pretensions and contrived, but overall enjoyed the book.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for the ARC.
This mystery is about a troubled honeymoon couple who visit a tropical paradise in the Maldives for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. They get drunk, have a row, and the husband goes missing. There is no body. Is he dead or did he change his mind about getting married and do a runner? Who could blame him if so! Things are complicated by Jemma's (the wife's) emotional instability and checquered past, making her look at everyone with suspicion.
I really enjoyed this book and found it to be engrossing, well-written, full of realistic characters and with a genuine mystery. I'm so glad I didn't scroll forwards to find out what happened because the denouement left me open-mouthed with surprise and shock.
The book is written in a mixture of first person (usually Jemma's) point of view in the present, and third person for the various characters in her past, going from 7 1/2 years ago until the wedding less than a week prior to the trip.. I can't say much more without giving too much of the plot away, but I hope no-one from the Maldives tourist board reads this book.
I did not get very far with this book it was littered with amateurish annoying descriptions and I could not continue to read it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
The cover and book description attracted me to the book and I can honestly say that if this had been written by someone else this could have been an explosive story with all its twists and turns.
Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the book as much as I had hoped I would - personally I think the author's writing style isn't very good and there wasn't enough excitement in how she was trying to get the story across so it became a bit flat for me. To be honest, I felt exactly the same way when I read one of the author's other books "One Step too far".
Don't get me wrong it is a great book and would make a fab holiday read but I just can't seem to get on with the the writing style of the author.
The Honeymoon
Jemma has been planning the perfect honeymoon forever but paradise has turned into a nightmare.
This is an amazing read, full of twists and turns that hooked me from the start. It totally gripped me and I couldn't put it down! I think this is one of my favourite books of 2017 so far!
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher, 5 shiny stars!
I stupidly thought this could be a romantic com or chick lit, the title gives no clue as to what really lies inside the covers of this book....I was in for a shock.
To marry the man of your dreams, fabulous wedding, idyllic honeymoon. ..what more could you want? But this isn't the idyll she'd longed for, it turned into a hellish nightmare and the beautiful setting became her prison.
I loved it, dark and at times a tad confusing, it all becomes very clear....and rather gruesome
A great read. Jemma's husband goes missing on their idyllic honeymoon. What is Jemma hiding? We flit from the current day to the past and back. From the beginning when we meet Jemma and Dan we know that things are not as they seem. And there are twists along the way. I was not expecting the the ending - excellent
I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
This was a gripping story from the very beginning with an excellent range of characters. With lots of twists and turns it was a book I could not put down as I was so eager to get to the end. It is cleverly written in a style which I really enjoyed.
4 stars
I absolutely loved Tina's previous book, One Step Too Far, and The Honeymoon did not disappoint at all. Really good writing with suspense and intrigue by the bucketload.
The honeymoon is dark, creepy and will take your breath away. I just couldn't put it down.
A very well deserved 5 star read!
Fabulous!!!
Great tale!!! Very engrossing! A must read for thriller fans.
