A good paced read which kept you wondering although I did feel it went on slightly too long. Close to the end, I had started suspecting what had happened in any case but enjoyed reading overall...
I've read a couple of Tina Seksis' books and so I was very pleased to be able to read an ARC of The Honeymoon. The premise is that Jemma heads off on the honeymoon of her dreams with her husband, only for her husband to go missing a short time into their honeymoon.
The way Seksis has written this book is unbelievably clever; switching between the present and the past, repeatedly, until the past and the present chapters become the same time. The way she has painted the characters in their descriptions made them (to me) immediately unlikeable, planting suspicion with every character. Who is responsible for this disappearance? The scene was set very well in the first few chapters, and having read so many glowing reviews for The Honeymoon I was desperate to see what the massive plot twist was - with Seksis you just know it's going to be something big!
Unfortunately I found that the middle chunk of this book realllly dragged, with not a great deal happening and just re-hashing the past of some of the characters, which didn't do a huge amount to supplement the storyline. When it finally came to the last few chapters of the book where the answers appeared, I was nothing short of disappointed. The ending was a total let-down, and I feel that all of the groundwork Seksis had laid for an explosive ending was completely wasted. The ending was bad. I am most disappointed as I had such high hopes, but fortunately Seksis' writing style means this was an enjoyable read nonetheless.
sorry decided not to read. seeings as i cannot post this without it being 50 charecters long i am typing this, amy amny apologies - please ignore this :)
So this was a fabulous book that gets you hooked Dom page one!
However I hated the main character and found her story totally unbelievable saying that though it didn't spoil the book she just got on my nerves!
So hemmed goes on holiday with her husband to the Maldives and he disappears, that's the story! The story goes from chapter to chapter in before the honeymoon, during and after the honeymoon, this was an easy transposition and broke the book up murky.
It's full of twists and turns and certainly had me guessing until the end!
You've no idea who to trust and who's lying, and as you go along you find you're not even sure if you can trust Jenna either. A great thriller full of secrets and lies and asks how well do you really know anyone!!
A very enjoyable read I'm off to buy some more of tinas book because if they are anything like this one I'm in for a treat....but the book it's a great read you won't be disappointed!!! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Marrying the man you love and being whisked away to a luxurious honeymoon in the Maldives, Jemma should be in heaven but ends up in hell. After falling for her boyfriend's brother and then getting him to propose Jemma should be on cloud nine, but why is she full of dread as she walks up the aisle. Even a honeymoon in paradise doesn't cheer Jemma up. What was the phone call on the eve of wedding all about, and how did it have such a dramatic effect on everyone's lives. A great read. I highly recommend this book.
The Honeymoon by Tina Seskis is a pyschological thriller about Jemma, a young woman on honeymoon in a five star resort in the Maldives with her new husband when he goes missing without trace. What should be the happiest time of her life turns into a nightmare. Though I found the main characters slightly unlikeable, this novel is an easy beach read.
It should have been the dream honeymoon but it turned into a nightmare.
Jemma and Jamie are on honeymoon in a five star island paradise when Jamie disappears without a trace.
As the story backtrack to prior events that lead up to the wedding all is not as it seems
A book that has you on the edge of your seat right to the last page and the conclusion is mind blowing you just don't see it coming.
I have never read Tina,s books before but will certainly look for them
Five stars all the way
An utterly delightful book. T sounds like an easy holiday read from the blurb, but don't be fooled - this had me reaching for my kindle as I was desperate to find out what happened. A real page turner and a gem of a book. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I felt the first half of this was rather slow but I couldn't put it down towards the end. Well worth sticking with it. Well described characters- I could picture them all.
The Honeymoon by Tina Seskis - what a book! I love and read quite a few psychological thrillers, and I often need a reminder of what the book was about when I look back at my collection, but this is one I shall not forget!
Jemma seems like an ordinary girl with an ordinary life at the start of the book, but as the story unfolds it reveals how Jemma is quite a complicated and contrary character. The plot is twisty, but the reasons behind it only reveal near the end of the book. As I read I thought I knew what was going on, but as soon as I had a theory, it was quickly quashed! My opinion of whether Jamie was still alive or not kept swaying back and forth right until the end. I could never have imagined the ending, and when it is revealed, it makes you think back to what you have read and...... (well that would spoil it!)
The Honeymoon is a psychological thriller with several twists and turns - early ones easily guessable and the final twist just bizarre!
The main character, Jemma, is hard to like as she narrates the tale of her honeymoon in the Maldives.
Overall, an easy beach read but not a book I'd go back to.
I received a free ARC copy from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
As I am currently on holiday, I thought it may be nice to pick a few 'lighter' reads for poolside - you know, maybe a bit of romance that I only tend to read a couple of years.
That will teach me to judge a book by its title!
Tina Seskis styles it out like a magician in her art of misdirection.
There's a decent story of relationships and how they work and don't work, and how one moment can change their course into something quite different and unexpected.
But there's an even better, darker story that twists and turns and thrashes against the reader, until it finally calms and tells all.
I really enjoyed it - I love it when a book keeps me guessing.
The Honeymoon by Tina Seskis
Newlyweds Jemma and Jamie are on their honeymoon at a high class resort in The Maldives. The husband goes missing and Jemma is an obvious suspect.
The book unfurls with Jemma as the narrator both in the present and 7 years earlier when she first meets Jamie's brother Dan. This narrative continues leading us up to the present time. I enjoy this style of narrative as it has things slowing clinking into place as events and storylines make more sense as you learn the history behind them.
It had many twists and turns which are hard to go into without giving away far too many spoilers. However I certainly did not see the conclusion to Jamie's disappearance coming!!
I enjoyed the book, the characters, albeit you only really get to know Jemma in any depth and liked the style of writing.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
Definitely different........I did find this entertaining but also slightly depressing . There didn't seem to be any light and shade - only shade. Not one for keeping I dont think.
I havent read any other books by this author, would probably give them a go even though i didnt really enjoy this title. The characters i didnt care for so i think that put me off to start with. I did like the past and present chapters, a good way of building up the characters.
If Jemma needs anything at all then it is probably some sessions with a therapist and a thorough evaluation of her mental health, because she comes off as completely crazy. Talk about unreliable narrator.
Jemma wakes up on her honeymoon to find her brand new husband gone. Instead of telling anyone she decides to wait around a bit to see if he turns up, which of course makes her look terribly suspicious. Why would anyone think a happy newly-wed would want to rid herself of her new hubby?
Let me think, perhaps because she wasn’t as happy as she pretended to be, and her mother-in-law hates her. Oh and there is the small matter of her ex-boyfriend, who just happens to be her brother-in-law too.
It is a mishmash of genres, a bit of psychological thriller, chic-lit and an ending I would put into the horror drawer. The plot and direction seemed to lack a consequent and determined captain at the helm.
It felt confused at times and the main character certainly had no clue what she wanted. At times it felt like the reader had taken up permanent residence in her head, and believe you me it isn’t a pretty sight. She was a mess, too much of one, which was detrimental to the plot.
Don’t get me wrong, I would never have guessed the ending. It is definitely a complete surprise. I can’t decide whether it was planned or just a wicked and rather random twist. Seskis has an eye for the unusual and knows how to keep readers on their toes.
This was a fabulous read. A real page turner. I found it a little difficult when it went from the past to the present but I soon got accustomed to it and it certainly made the book more interesting. I loved how the perpetrator was unmasked at the very end. What a turn up. Hearing about honeymoons in the Maldives will never be the same again.
The story is told over different timeframes: during the honeymoon, just before and seven years previously. The reader is kept guessing exactly what happened to the husband and whether his new wife was to blame. There is a twist at the end which didn't entirely fit with the rest of the story but, overall, I thought the book was enjoyable.
Jenna & her husband are on an idyllic island for their honeymoon. Jenna realises her husband has gone missing & knows she needs to report it but how honest can she be about the hours directly before he disappeared?
A wonderful surprise of a book. A fast paced, thrilling story that provided perfect escapism. There are so many twists and turns in this book - I really could not guess the ending. I felt no point of the book was predictable.
Where do i even begin to start with this? It was super hyped and i knew it was a thriller that would lead the reader all over the place. Jemma has been planning the perfect honeymoon after her perfect wedding. It is a place filled with luxury and they should be having the time of their lives but alas that is not the case.
Jemma wakes up in a haze after a booze fuelled evening and her husband is gone - not just out exploring but gone gone, and she doesn't know where he is or what to do. After everything the couple have worked through - how can he leave her alone?
Jemma begins to panic and it is about time she reports his disappearance but what can she really remember about that night? Can she even trust anyone on the island?
The Honeymoon is a dark web of secrets and tells the narrative from before the wedding, during and the honeymoon so we learn about the characters across these periods of time. What follows is a gripping tale that left me feeling that i couldn't trust anyone, especially the narrative - it just didnt feel right, but nope, throw in a few more twists and turns and you wont even stand a chance of working out what an earth has happened!
I finished this book in a state of shock and relief, relief that i got an answer but shocked at what it was.
This was one of the most unpredictable thrillers i have read and i would recommend it through anf through. Whilst i feel this review doesnt do it justice but i dont want to give anything away because honestly - it would ruin it. JUST READ IT
