This is excellent writing. A psychological thriller with many twists no turns, and a feeling of a hidden threat invading the pages. The main character Jemma doesn't seem to be a very likeable character, she treated Dan really badly, and she doesn't really treat Jamie any better. I guessed the outcome with about a quarter of the book still to read, but was amazed when I realised I was correct.

I cannot say I loved it, it is too tense for that and I prefer a happy ending; but I thoroughly appreciated the quality of the writing and the well-focussed story, and will look for this author again.

Firstly thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

I did like this book, I wasn't too keen on the characters but I suspect that is what the author intends, maybe to make it more realistic. Saying that I found it easy to read and a bit of a page turner. It is well written, there are lots of twists and the ending is pretty epic.

I enjoyed this book, it is the first time that I have read anything from this author.
Jemma and Jamie go to a remote island on honeymoon.Jamie disappears, and we gradually learn throughout the book further background as to how their relationship has developed, and why Jemma is unsure as to whether she should have got married.
Other characters appear in the book such as Jamie's brother Dan, his mother, and another honeymoon couple Kenny and Chrissy. Out of all the characters I found Jemma to be quite selfish, she seemed to be very self obsessed at times, so it was quite hard to feel any sympathy for her
There are a few twists in the book which kept me hooked and I read it within a very short time.
Thanks to Netgalley, Penguin/Michael Joseph for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

As with a lot of recent novels, this book employs the 'unreliable narrator', which I personally enjoy, but only when done right and I can happily confirm that this book is one of the ones which uses this technique successfully. As I was reading, I often felt one of the narrators (Jemma, our main protagonist) was being purposely misleading and, having read a book recently which flat-out deceives the reader, was worried that this book would take the same course. It doesn't and in fact, uses the unreliability of Jemma to develop her as an interesting yet flawed 3-dimensional character. I found her character intriguing, which is good as the reader spends a lot of time 'in her head', despite there being several other minor narrators and a little bit of head-hopping, all of which add depth to the story.

At no point did I guess the ending (which is a feat these days..!) and when all was finally revealed at the end I felt a chill run down my spine. I can pretty much guarantee that you will have no idea as to what will happen in the end, and when you do find out, it will smack you in the face (in a good way, of course). Would recommend to anyone interested in domestic thrillers or unreliable narrators.

The Honeymoon is a gripping mystery that had me intrigued from the synopsis alone - and happily the book itself did not disappoint!

Told from a few different perspectives (but mainly from Jemma's in both first and third person), the book takes us through what happens on the idyllic island in the Maldives that Jemma and her husband are honeymooning on, and the way her husband's disappearance pans out, and also the lead up to this happening, travelling back in time to when they first met and their subsequent relationship. We also see some of the story from Chrissy's point of view, who is also on holiday there with her husband.

Jemma herself is very difficult to like. She's spoilt, shallow and quite harsh in her treatment of boyfriends. She also seem incredibly flaky. I feel like as the reader you're supposed to dislike her a little, as it only adds to your uncertainty over whether she is to blame for the nightmare unfolding in the book. All along we are wondering who has something to hide, and whether we're getting the full story from Jemma and those around her?

The story is fast paced and utterly addictive. I loved Tina Seskis's writing and loved the various twists and turns that The Honeymoon presented. One of them (which is fairly early in the book but still a good twist, I think ) seems to have been given away in some reviews thay I've seen (after I read the book, luckily not before!) so I'm keeping all of those out of this review so as not to ruin any of it. Part of the enjoyment of this book is in being surprised, I think!

I absolutely loved the ending and was left feeling suitably satisfied, something I can't always say about novels in this genre!

Great writing and a fun, easy to read storyline that kept me guessing makes this a fantastic summer read - or 'any-time-of-the-year' read, really! It's fun, twisty, and surprisingly dark at times - I loved it!

This book started with the honeymoon of Jemma and Jamie. It then gave flashbacks starting 7 years previously. Jemma had previously had a relationship with Jamie's older brother Dan.. Jamie went missing a few days into their honeymoon in the Maldives. It also concentrates on the friendship Jemma makes with Chrissy on the island. There's a twist as to what happens to Jamie that I never ever expected.

I've enjoyed Tina Seskis' books before so I knew I was in for a good read with The Hineymoon and wow she didn't disappoint me. I loved the tension of each time period. I felt my emotions being drawn out like a rubber band and just when I'd thought i was understanding what had happened, ping! the time frame changes and I had to pull myself together to concentrate on the next part. Very well written and kept me guessing up until the end - which I didn't see coming. Can't wait for her next one.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with the opportunity to read this, but I am afraid it wasn't for me. I found it 100 pages too long and not nearly as gripping as I was led to believe from the blurb. Couldn't warm to the main character or any characters in the book really.

A great page turner as you desperately want to know what happened to the missing husband just a day or so into his honeymoon. Told partly in the first person by the wife, and partly in third person point of view. Although gripping, I did find it a tad drawn out in places, but the final solution came totally out of the blue. Definely an author to watch, I have now gone back to reading her earlier novels. Recommended for the beach.

Actual rating 3.5 Stars

I'm honestly in two minds about this story. On one hand it is well written with lots of twists throughout. On the other it has a lot of content I simply skipped over as I didn't feel it added enough to the story for me to invest time in reading.

The story starts out well, and I was instantly drawn in. The initial mystery of where Jemma's husband had gone was one I did enjoy. But then I found myself being thrown one way or another in my thoughts. I went from liking Jemma to hating her, then headed back towards liking but not quite. As the various twists were revealed I wanted to be drawn back into the story, but unfortunately I ended up becoming more confused as to what I felt about it as time went on.

The final twist, I must admit, was extremely well done. Reading back through the chapters I did see where the hints were dropped by the author. That brought my rating up slightly, but not enough where I would say this was a book I absolutely loved.

If you enjoy reading books where the backstory is most important, then this is one for you. I just wasn't as enamoured with it as a whole book as I wanted to be. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.

Jemma is on her honeymoon in a five star dream resort in The Maldives when her husband goes missing. Just where he's gone is a complete mystery and suddenly everyone on the island is a suspect, and Jemma doesn't know who she can trust.
Initially I wasn't keen on Jemma, I didn't agree with a decision she made at the start of the book, and found her to be selfish, but as the story unfolded, I did a complete u-turn, and felt quite sorry for her.
The description of the Maldives had me reaching for my computer to goggle holidays!,
As for the twist at the end, I thought I had thought of every possible ending, but obviously I hadn't!
If you liked Girl On The Train, or Behind Closed Doors then you'll love this book.

Excellent read! A page turner which kept me guessing to the end. Well written...what more can I say. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.

So many threads weave around the storyline, tangling, trying to make sense of the unsensible. Seskis shows an unusual depth of understanding of a mind in torment, whilst the ending is truly stunning.

A great book, I couldn't put it I down. Having visited the Maldives I could totally put myself in the picture - the descriptions were totally spot on and the surprising outcome was rather spooky. I thoroughly recommend it.

I think it's safe to say that this book wasn't at all what I expected.

On the honeymoon of a lifetime in the Maldives, Jemma's new husband goes missing. Is he dead or alive? Has he been kidnapped or had second thoughts & run away? Here begins our mystery in paradise.

Through flashback chapters we start to uncover the complications in Jamie & Jemma's relationship (I mean, if you're going to sleep with brothers...) and her preoccupation with getting a ring on it.

Jemma is a self-obsessed nightmare and I honestly couldn't stand her character. If I was stuck at a holiday resort with her I'd probably go missing too, if only to briefly get away from her for a bit. But is that what happened to Jamie? Has she driven him away?

This book made me feel unwell. (Hey Publishers, you can use that quote in the marketing campaign if you like? You're welcome)

Here is my Goodreads update, just after I'd finished the book...

....and my stomach churns again when I think about the conclusion to this story. I doubt you'll expect it, but I'm pretty sure you'll love it.

A great holiday #CwtchUp read with an ending you won't see coming (Is it REALLY a twist if you KNOW it's a twist?.....) Four cwtches.

The Honeymoon is out later this week, so you can pre-order your copy here.

Sometimes I want an easy read, nothing complicated, a plot that is simple, compelling, riveting, chilling and keeps you turning those pages.
This book is one of those.
Tina Seskis writing is so skilful, with plenty of surprises and one of the most unexpected endings I have ever read.

Thank you Netgalley, Penguin and Tina Seskis for allowing me to read and review this book.

Jemma has always dreamed of the perfect honeymoon with her husband, but things don't go according to plan... and then one day he disappears. There's nowhere to hide on the island (well, there must be, but let's go with it) and no one knows what happened to him. Theories abound and everyone on the island is a suspect. The most likely suspect appears to be Jemma herself.

Part of the story is written in the present tense and Jemma realises her husband is missing and the search for him progresses. The other part is a series of flashbacks which tell us how she met her husband and how they ended up being on honeymoon on this most luxurious of islands.

Jemma is almost an unreliable narrator (almost, in that she'd got a bit high and forgotten what happened on the night of her husband's disappearance). There are so many clues and red herrings that my theories as to what happened changed from chapter to chapter. There are a couple of twists on the way, but the final twist is pretty spectacular.

The writing is tight and feeling on claustrophobia that pervades the island is palpable. Jemma is an intriguing character. Jamie, Dan and their relationship is puzzling (partly because we mainly see them through Jemma's eyes and everything is coloured by her opinions of them). We do eventually get a view into their thoughts and mostly, it was a surprise to see what they thought.

The story was so gripping that I was trying to work out the puzzle in between reading sessions (real life is so annoying when it's getting in the way of a good book!). If you like tense psychological thrillers, you'll love this book. I did.

I received a free copy via Netgalley in return for an honest review.

Posted on Goodreads. Will post it to my blog too, in due course.

For as long as she can remember, Jemma has been planning the perfect honeymoon. A fortnight's retreat to a five-star resort in the Maldives, complete with luxury villas, personal butlers and absolute privacy. It should be paradise, but it's turned into a nightmare.

Because the man Jemma married a week ago has just disappeared from the island without a trace. And now her perfect new life is vanishing just as quickly before her eyes. After everything they've been through together, how can this be happening? Is there anyone on the island who Jemma can trust? And above all - where has her husband gone?

Sounds good right? But, oh dear, I so wanted to enjoy this more as it started off so well and there was a splendid little twist abut 20 chapters in which I thought was setting up the rest of the book. Unfortunately, I felt it lost its way in the latter half of the book and I don't think some of the additional characters added tension in the way the author may have intended it to. By the end, I wasn't that bothered about what had really happened as too many options had been laid out and I'd lost interest. Fine for a holiday read, though probably not if you are in the Maldives!
