I've been trying and trying to get into this one... I was intrigued by the blurb, liked the cover, thought it sounded right up my alley, but I've picked it up and put it back down after a few pages (or even paragraphs) more than five times now and think that I'm just going to have to say it's not for me. There are so many things going on - I am having a very hard time with one of the three storylines (the Khan), am surprisingly uninterested by the murders line, and have been quite enjoying the actual Brains/Fair bits. The Brains/Fair portion of the story is, so far, the most robust and longest, so I thought I could keep slogging through the other parts and they would eventually either start meeting in the middle or start grabbing at my imagination to try and work their way together on their own. No dice. I keep finding myself skimming whole swathes, which I hate to do and which is usually the death knell on a book for me... Unfortunately, after struggling with that through fifty or so pages, even the parts of the book I was enjoying are starting to feel like a slog. I don't know if it's uneven editing or what, but the pace just wasn't consistent enough to hold me - or the drama strong enough to make me want to hold on (which is odd, given the premise). This one is just not for me...
