Blood money by Charlie Gallagher.
Langthorne Police Series Book 3.
What would you do to save your dying son? Imagine the doctors told you there was a cure, but only if you had the money. Would you break the law to save your child's life?
A great read. Great plot. I really didn't like Helen. Can't wait for next book. 4*.

Somehow missed reviewing this. Another brilliant book in the series. Hard to say you can read this in isolation without reading the previous books. Charlie produces excellent police based books - given there are so many to chose from. Pace is really good and you never get bogged down in pages of descriptive text. Looking forward to further books from Charlie

Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to have read another brilliant Charlie Gallagher offering. This is already book 3 in the Langthorne series, and even though I did not read the books in order, I don't think I've missed much references to the previous books in the series.
In this book the main character is faced with an awful truth, my son is sick, and I can't afford his care anymore. He then gets desperate and gets involved in organized crime.
This was a thrilling book, and I can't wait to get stuck in the other books!
Recommended.

This one started off really well but I lost enthusiasm half way through, such a shame because I usually enjoy Charlie's books

Thank you to Netgalley for letting me red Blood Money By Charlie Gallagher.
This is the third in the Langthorne series and I personally would recommend that they are read in order to make sense of these series of books. It can be read as a standalone if you have understanding of the previous book......Which I feel is a must.
I was hooked at the beginning of the book with the story line of Tony Robson and he had to find £3.000 per month to carry on the life-saving experimental treatment for his son’s rare disease. Tony gets in touch with the criminal underworld in his town. They have a well-paying job for him . . which doesn't end well.
This book is full of twists and turns but I feel it was missing and lacking something. I seemed to loose some of its flow and excitement like it at the begin of the book.

Brilliant book that kept me on the edge of my seat, but cringing at times wanting to shout at the father not to do it. The things you do for your children to help them and save them. Great book to read.

This is the third in the Langthorne series and I personally would recommend that they are read in order although they could be read as standalone.

I would also advise that people ignore the synopsis as it is very misleading and really isn't what this book is about at all. I think those that have read the first two books will be much more forgiving as they're already invested in the characters.

Pushing this minor issue aside, I didn't enjoy this book as much as the previous two but I'm not sure why although I really liked the Sally subplot...

I look forward to book four.

Thanks to Joffe Books for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I appreciate being given the opportunity to read this novel before publication. This is the first book by Charlie Gallagher I have read and I will definitely be seeking out the first two books in the series. The novel is very strong on police procedures which makes it an interesting read. A strong cast of characters and a fast paced plot has left me wanting more. Crime writing at it's best.

Blood Money is a fast-paced, thrill ride of a book that leaves you guessing until the very end.

When Tony Robson gets tragic news about his son, he goes to extreme measures to save his child. As a parent, the book made me think about what lengths I would go to for my family. Tony is likeable and brave, good qualities in a protagonist.

There are other dramas wrapped up in this as well. Sally, a young drug addict, battles for her life and the life of her friend. She, too, is brave and likeable. In fact, I enjoyed her story more than that of Tony's. From the blurb, it isn't clear that she would be the central focus of the novel, but she is. If I had one complaint about the book, it's that the description doesn't match the actual plot as well as it might. Tony is more of a fringe character. Not that this lessened my enjoyment of the book, but it did confuse me at first since I thought he was meant to be the central figure.

I was also somewhat taken aback by the ending since some of the threads were left hanging. True, a lot of it was wrapped up really well, but I had a sense that there was more to follow. I believe, however, that this book is part of a series, so it's quite likely that the characters will continue on.

Blood Money is a very enjoyable thriller, and I would definitely read more of this author's books.

Thanks to Joffe Books and NetGalley for the ARC.

Readers of Bodily Harm and Panic Button will be pleased by the developments that occur in Charlie Gallagher’s newest novel Blood Money.  (This series is one you must read in order).  At its start, George Elms is in custody having confessed to the brutal murder of a number of officers, despite his innocence.  He is more in the periphery of Blood Money.  One thing that very much impressed me was how well Charlie Gallagher captures the effect of individual actions and their repercussions.  Tony Robson only wants to earn the money necessary to pay for his son’s medical expenses.  He agrees to be a courier.  Tony is expendable, but when the kindness of a police officer who sees a mirror of his own tragedy (his daughter is a junkie) means Tony gets off, the action has wide ranging repercussions for Langthorne, the police and the criminal element.

Blood Money is a thrilling novel.  It is nice to finally see George Elms have a bit of justice and to see some of the corruption ousted. There is a lot more violence in these novels than you commonly see in British police procedurals.  It also is very different in that you know who the criminals are from the very beginning.   That being said, I did wonder how a cocaine addict could plan/fulfill the murder of multiple officers, leave ample evidence (he brags about it) and go unidentified.  Wouldn’t the dna match with that of his brother who died in prison, at least enough to show familial relationship?  What I can say is if you are thinking about a novel after the last page is turned, the author has done his job well.  These novels are not for everyone, but they are a unique read written from the perspective of one who knows the ins and outs of policing.

4 / 5

I really enjoyed this, it kept me hooked from the beginning. I didn't realise that this was a series and part three at that. I will have to read the other two now and eagerly await book number four.
Imagine being told that the treatment that is keeping your son alive costs £3000 a month is being withdrawn and that you will have to watch him die. What would you do? Anything? Or nothing. Dad Tony Robson finds himself in just that situation and finds himself drawn into the criminal element in town. They offer him an opportunity to make some easy money, he doesn't realise that there's nothing such thing and he's about to find that out the hard way. He gets caught in the middle of police corruption,
All I will say is grab a cuppa some chocolate and buckle up for a fast paced police thriller

This is the first book which I have read by Amanda James.

It certainly won't be the last. I liked the way the author slowly developed the characters. This enabled this to develop into a very exciting psychological thriller.

I liked the two settings, central London and rural Cornwall, both of which added a sense of geographical realism to the story.

There are plenty of twists and turns along the way. Before the final reveal.

I give my thanks to Netgalley and HQ Digital for a copy of this book in exchange for this review.

Wow this book was just fabulous. It was tense and emotional and totally gripping. I really enjoyed it, actually had a hard time putting it down as I just had to know what happened. A great read!

4 and 1 / 2 stars

This is the third book in the series and it is also very good. It is both well written and plotted, just like Charlie Gallagher other ones. I really like this author, and very much look forward to reading the next in this series!

Tony Robson’s son Daniel is suffering from a rare form of muscular dystrophy. He has been involved in a pharmaceutical trial for a new drug. However, now the trial has run out. But Tony can keep his son on the medication for 3,000 pounds per month. Where is he going to get that kind of money?

After getting in touch with one of the local criminal elements, Tony agrees to commit a crime for the money to pay for his son’s treatment.

This brings the police into play.

Helen Webb and her dirty dealings come into play more in this book. I know for some reason I didn’t like her. I still miss DS George Elms though and long for him to come back into play more. Addiction as it is covered in this novel is done very well.

This is a fast paced, well thought out thriller. More, please?!

I want to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for forwarding to me a copy of this great book to read.

Charlie Gallagher....you aced it! You are now one of my favourite authors. Not many books can bring me to tears, but this one did! This is the third book in the series. Read them! I was a police officer and my daughter is a police officer.. These three books just hit home. Thanks to Net Galley for my copy. I loved it! You are now one of my favourite authors. I reviewed on Goodreads and Amazon.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for a review copy of Blood Money, the third book in Mr Gallagher's highly entertaining series of police procedurals, set in fictional Lennockshire in the south of England.

Firstly I would advise any reader wanting to read this series to start at book 1, Bodily Harm, as all the novels have a continuous plotline and can be regarded as episodes in a longer tale.

After the events of Panic Button DS George Elms is in prison so he doesn't make much of an appearance although his fate is always in the background, hanging over the narrative. The focus is on Helen Webb and her double dealing and on an addict called Sally Morgan who overhears a conversation she shouldn't have.

Despite the lack of George Blood Money is the best novel in the series so far. The plot is gripping and not as outrageous as the previous novels so it doesn't require as much suspension of disbelief. The pacing is excellent with no let up and it had me gripped from start to finish. I also liked that it is starting to unravel a bit for the bad guys - they got away with too much before but that's probably where the realism and Mr Gallagher's experience come in as the good guys don't always win.

The novel is very strong on police procedure with every incident having a structured approach and it is interesting to read. Of course this only works until officers go rogue or use their initiative!

There is a strong cast of characters in Blood Money but without George it is more an ensemble than one strong protagonist although I think Inspector Martin and his helplessness in the face of his daughter's addiction are well done.

Blood Money is a high octane, gripping read so I have no hesitation in recommending it.

A very complicated plotline that would make little sense unless the previous books in the series have been read.
A very dark story of police corruption on so many levels that it's difficult to keep track.
Will book 4 bring the saga to its conclusion?

One of those books that has you questioning what you would do if facing similar circumstances to those which Tony finds himself. Charlie Gallagher uses his insider knowledge of the police to good use & also knows how to keep the tension in a story at a high pitched level.

It is only a matter of a few weeks since I read the first book by Charlie Gallagher, followed immediately by the second.

I signed up to get notice of future books. I was thrilled to get the opportunity to read it before publication thanks to Netgalley.

Three books = fifteen stars.

Charlie Gallagher is a police detective which means police procedures are spot on. His cast of characters are believable. Some I like, some disgust me, others are there but evoke no strong emotions...just like the people who pass through my real life on a daily basis.

Although the books follow in sequence I would not call them a series. I think you could read any of them and enjoy them as individual books.

I hope CG has many more books in him because I want to read more. His talent has already put him in my 'go to' list of authors. That is no small feat.

This is for anyone who loves crime novels with an offering of blood, guts and brain matter.
