In this new series by Author Ruth Cardello the Westerly family is a little rough and beat up. The victims of a broken family, they have a ways to go to put the pieces back together, but with the help of a few sly matchmakers, as they say love can work miracles.

A great start to what looks like it will be another amazing adventure. The characters are wonderful and you will get to laugh, cry, and be frustrated with them right along with the rest of them because when you finish this book you feel like they are old friends.

This is the first book in a new series for Ruth Cardello. The family has two parts that are estranged from each other through a bitter divorce when the children were small. Some long buried secrets are discovered and the gap only widens. In the middle of all of this, Brett finds himself attracted to his brother Brett's fiancée Alisha. Alisha would do anything for Brett but finds herself attracted to Spencer as well.

Alishia truly brings out the best in Spencer and his character growth really shown throughout the book. Alisha also is able to grow and become more independent and learn more about herself as she is challenged from her normal comfort zone through the events in the book.

I look forward to reading more about the family and how the rest of the members deal with the eccentric matriarch and her meddling.

Years ago a bitter divorce split the family as the brothers were separated and Spencer lived with his mother and Brett lived with his family. Delinda is saddened by the separation as after all this time her grandchildren, Spencer and Brett, don’t show up for her 80th birthday so she has promised an early inheritance to the one who marries first and brings the entire family together.

Spencer has decided that the inheritance would assist his business ventures so he asks his sister’s best friend Alisha to agree to a six month marriage and she agrees. Brett presents a cold public persona but he cares about his family and wants to stop Spencer from making a decision that he will regret. When he meets Brett and his fiancée he feels an attraction to her that he has never felt before and decides that the engagement must be ended so that he may have her.

I loved the characters as Alisha is feisty and independent and Brett appears cold but underneath he is sensitive and caring and although they are opposites they fit. I look forward to see who Ruth Cardello matches Spencer up with in the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

The Westerly family have skeletons in their closet like most families, being powerful, rich, and of social standing doesn't change that. Brett, the oldest sibling has model himself on his father, followed his lead, taken over the family company, won at any cost. Brett parents divorce split the siblings, Brett and brother stayed with their father, two sisters and brother went with his mother. His grandmother has a notion to bring her dysfunctional family together with the power of love. This is the story of how wrong and how right it turns out. Enjoy the ride with this one, Ruth Cardello has a writing flow that pulls you in and before you know it you've finished the book - enjoy

Their back!! It worked before so why not try again? Premise was good but delivery and characters could have been better.

Everyone expect the main two characters (and Delinda) were horrible and selfish people. So much, that I really don't care for them to find their HEAs.

And the story is VERY wordy!!!! I'm a huge fan of dialogue and found it lacking here. Strip all the "in thought" moments, make Spencer a little more considerate, have Rachelle not be all about her, and give Stephanie a backbone. And throw in some island time, and you'd have a hit here.

Not sure what to say about this book except that, I was swept away by this story and taken on a wonderful ride of emotions. Brett Westerly is a billionaire without a life, work and success is all that concern him. Alisha Coventry is a strong, independent women who doesn't take any bull from anyone. These two definitely see life differently but are able to open one anothers eyes to all the possibilities that life can have. This story is entrancing, sexy and filled with heart! I LOVED it!

I admit I thought Ruth Cardello’s In the Heir was going to be a little trope-y and a bit cheesy, but I am very glad to let you know that it wasn’t either. It’s sexy, amusing and entertaining, and I loved it.

Brett Westerly is the CEO of the family's business empire and no-nononse workaholic. His family was split in half when his parents went through a bitter divorce and now he and his siblings, especially the ones that lived with their mother, do not really get along. Their haughty grandmother would like them to be sort of a family again and plots to get the back together by dangling their inheritances in front of them. In order to get them, they have to get married and invite everyone to the wedding.

Younger brother Spencer negotiates a marriage of convenience with family friend, Alisha, needing the money for a startup company. Brett suspects Spencer and Alisha are not really in love and questions their engagement. He’s floored and alarmed to discover he’s attracted to Alisha when he meets her, and he’s really baffled when he likes her as he gets to know her.

Alisha is both repelled and attracted to Brett. She think he’s a jerk and treats Spencer poorly, but she cannot deny that she desires him. As she and Spencer get closer to getting married, feelings between the two start to really complicated things. There’s much more than money at stake.

I’ll just say it - I loved Brett. He might seem like a bit of a tool in the beginning, but it quickly becomes apparent that he is a very nice guy, incredibly sexy and just sweet. He falls hard for Alisha, and I loved watching him woo her. Alisha is a firecracker and isn’t intimidated by Brett although he is a wealthy and powerful man, and their banter and push-and-pull relationship was fun to watch play out. I also loved all of the Westerly siblings and even the grouchy grandmother, and can recommend In the Heir without reservation.

Great premise for a series. Ruth Cardello writes fully drawn characters and secondary characters. There is an actual story to go along with the romance. Looking forward to the next one.

Ruth Cardello did it again and came up with a book where the reader will have an absolute enjoyable ride!

Brett is perceived as ruthless and obnoxious by his family. What they don't know is that he has been easing the way for them behind the scenes.
When Brett meets Alisha, he is intrigued. He is attracted towards her but coveting his brothers fiancée is wrong. But when he learns of their fake engagement, he goes after he with a single minded purpose.
The Westerly's have been the only real family, Alisha has ever had and will do anything to make them happy, even stay away from Brett, the guy she shared undeniable chemistry with.
In the heir is first in the series and a great start. It has anger, forgiveness, pride, anger, friendship, betrayal, family bond, and above all love, all things to make it an engaging read. Can't wait to read more in the series.

This new series is about the Westerly family and the chaos that happens when several family secrets come to light and cause a lot of pain and heartache for them. The oldest Westerly, Brett, has always put business first no matter the cost to him or those around him much like his father did. However, this cost his father his family and Brett has come to realize he doesn't want this same life for himself. When he meets his brother, Spencer's, fiancee it turns everything he has ever thought and believed about himself upside down.

I have read all the books this author has written and each new one gets better than the one before. Her stories are always filled with family, loyalty, strength; and sometimes there is pain with messy situations but always hope for something bigger and better. There is always love that is stronger than anything you can imagine. I love her alpha males who want to take over and "fix" everything but always end up learning a bit about themselves and what they really need to do in order to make the people they love truly happy.

This is a great start to a new series.

What would you do to protect those you love? Brett assumes his role as the head of his families business. Stepping into the role his father left behind when he retired. After meeting his brother'a fiancée he begins to see life a little differently. He no longer commands what he rules with an iron fist but begins to think of how he interacts with his family. In the past, he would simply throw money at a problem wishing it away but now he confronts each problem and tries to determine how to help his fractured family. Alisha has always been a kind soul who would do anything to care for the family she considers her own. Caught in trying to do the right thing she quickly realizes what she promised is no longer in her heart. Brett and Alisha attempt to be friends but their attraction is undeniable when they're together.

A solid plot makes this a good romance. Unique and interesting. Thanks!

I'm really disappointed to say this was a DNF for me. I went into it looking forward to trying a new author, but struggled with the writing style from the start. It felt like I was missing something. Like I was meant to know who these characters were and their back story even though it was a series starter. I'll absolutely recommend it to other readers though. It just wasn't for me. Thank you

Sometimes I just like to try something or someone new. I understand that doesn’t mean the author is new – it’s usually that I just never found them in my book searches. Having just finished IN THE HEIR by Ruth Cardello I know that I’ve been missing out on a lot of fun. Reading should be entertaining and books should bring smiles to the readers face. IN THE HEIR did more than that. It had me laughing out loud.
Sage advice from within IN THE HEIR – if you want a rose garden, don’t plant weeds.
In IN THE HEIR we meet the Westerly clan probably one of the most dysfunctional fractured families I’ve ever had the joy of meeting. This family is just chock full of issues and angst. You can almost feel sorry for their misery except that you quickly come to realize they are their own worst enemy. Levels after levels of lies and innuendo and misunderstandings have become the reality to these characters. The only thing that seems to bring any redemption is their strong family bond. But candidly even that comes into question once you start to ferret out the truth of this rather eclectic family group.

The Westerly’s are truly products of their upbringing. We immediately meet Delinda Westerly – the matriarch of the family and realize she has a plan to get her grandchildren to follow her demands. Delinda isn’t a bad person – but as we learn she is definitely misguided. And that could be the one thing that truly connects this family. They are good people – but it’s going to take quite a bit of this story to finally get us to see that.

So Spencer decides he is going to yield to his grandmother’s latest edict. Why? Simple – money. She has it, he needs it for his budding business. Problem he needs a wife. No problem Spencer has a best friend Alisha who is very willing to play the role of fiancé and even marry Spencer albeit for a short time. Just until he gets the money he needs. Seems this family can’t get out of their own way when it comes to judgement calls.

Big brother Brett isn’t buying this quickie engagement and starts supplanting himself between Spencer and Alisha. He discovers quite a lot about this young woman who has been a dear friends of Spencer and their sister Rachelle. You might wonder why he hasn’t spent time with her before. Ah ha that’s the root of many of this strange families problems.

Anyhow – the more Brett discovers about Alisha the more he thinks she is too good to be true. But spending time with her is proving him wrong. Alisha is special. Brett is unhappy that she is settling for this farce of a marriage and relationship. Brett is also getting jealous of his brother. Here’s a dilemma of mythological proportions.

Brett has an ego as big as all outdoors. Alisha doesn’t have an assuming bone in her body. They are about as ill-suited as a couple as possible. And yet there is just something there. Alisha is a kindergarten teacher with paint under her nails, smile on her face for just about anyone and a huge heart. Brett is a corporate mogul with ice in his veins. Well at least that’s how everyone has always seen him. Everyone except Alisha.

IN THE HEIR is a wondrously fun jaunt and contains all the important elements of a delightful romantic comedy. Yes this is definitely a humorous tale. The characters are impossibly crazy yet likeable. The storyline is fun and engaging. IN THE HEIR will definitely leave you wanting more. So perhaps Ruth Cardello is planning a series on the Westerly clan. Only time will tell.

This was not what I expected. I really like Brett, Spencer and Alisha's characters. Knowing that someone was going to be hurt so two of them can find love must have been hard to write. My heart hurt for Spencer, and hopes that he us able to find love too. But on a happy note, Brett and Alisha are more alike than either knew. Both are helpful and caring without others knowing that a grand gesture was even made. Neither wanted to hurt anyone and was welling to let their happily ever after go if that's what it took. If anyone deserves to be happy, it's them.

There are three lessons that my Grandmother taught me. A person is never to old to stop learning. It's not enough to crave or receive love, you must give love in return And lead by example. She was a wise woman, who was not afraid to practice what she preached. Until the day she died, she led by example in all she did. Including owning up to her mistakes. I still miss her, but carry all she taught me within my heart. The Westerly clan could have used some of her wisdom.

With In the Heir, Ms. Cardello lays the groundwork for rebuilding a broken family.
The Westerlys are far from perfect. Anger and pride has set to destroying a prominent dynasty. Can forgiveness, restore the foundation before it topples completely? In The Heir is a story of romance, friendships and family, that is written and rooted in the most powerful emotion in the world. LOVE.

When a teaser shared a month ago pull you into wanting that book, you have very high hopes. Well Ruth did not disappoint me and she basically through me for a loop with some of the events that took place. Brett, Alisha, Spencer triangle was just wow and throw in doubt, betrayal, and misplaced feeling you have a masterpiece on your hands.

She always does this and suck me in until there is nowhere to go. I am a sitting duck until book 2 but know I am an addict for yet another Ruth creation.

This story was really enjoyable. Its connected to the Andrades as some of the older Andrades uncles match make and help Brett in this story as he tries to win Alisha.

This story is a new series about the Westerly family. There are a few surprises along the way and a love triangle between two brothers and Alisha. While its not really a romantic triangle but it is a triangle and Alisha has to decide between love and friendship and who her loyalty is to.

Triangles are not my favorite plot device, nor is forbidden love and this story features both those plot devices. However, it is well done in this story and I really enjoyed it.

I don't want to go too deep into the plot of the story because I don't want to give the plot away. I will say Alisha never cheats on her fiancee, Spencer. While I LOVED Alisha at times I did not like the Westerly's and that included Rachelle and Spencer. At times they both seemed very manipulative of Alisha.
