Didn't know what to expect with this one. A very fast-paced book with plenty of action. See in a hospital environment, there is more than enough going on without the added drama that Dr Alex Taylor is apparently bringing, I quite enjoyed the book, although in parts I found it a bit far fetched. But then again, it was a fun read from start to finish. It will keep people reading and guessing for sure!

This was such a creepy book! Definitely a page-turner (just not before bed) and very gripping.

What a brilliant book, drew me in from the very beginning and didn't let go until the end.I loved the characters who were both likable and believable, and the twists and turns that made you doubt whether you believed the main character of Alex Taylor and whether or not she had imagined what had happened or if it was real. I highly recommend that you read this book.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bonnier Zaffre for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book..

I simply loved this book. The main character, Alex, is amazing. She is such a successful young lady. Initially, not too much is revealed about her but as you continue reading, more is revealed about her character and achievements. She is fascinating but its sad to see how unsupportive her friends and colleagues are of her.

It was a suspenseful novel, it kept one guessing. Not only was one left guessing about the 'whodunnit' element but the fate of the main character was also in question.

I highly recommend this book. It is really exciting and nail-bitingly suspenseful. I am looking forward to reading more books from this author.

I enjoyed this debut thriller!
Imagine enduring a horrible ordeal and no one believes you. Dr. Alex Taylor's struggle had me finishing this book in a day. The author did a good job building the suspense toward the conclusion. I kept rooting for her. I get why her tale was unbelievable but no one, not even her friends, believed her. That was maddening and I don't know how Alex held it together. A lot of twisty good turns. But, the detectives behaved like they were rookies at times and one was definitely unprofessional in her motives.
I would recommend to others. Thank you Netgalley for this advance copy in exchange for a honest review.

I've never thought I'd be the kind to enjoy a "medical thriller." Funny enough, I hate going to the doctor, so why not read a book about a doctor seriously off their rocker? I was describing a "medical thriller" to a coworker and made her laugh because when she asked me what a medical thriller was, I said, "Well it's basically someone killing people in a doctor-y way." So as the winter came to and transitioning to spring, I read a book called, "Don't Wake Up" by Liz Lawler.

IMG Obtained from NetGalley

First, you meet this woman, Alex, who wakes up on - what she realizes - is an operating table. She has no idea what's going on except she obviously got hurt in some way. Waiting for the doctor to tell her what happened, she takes in her surroundings. The lights, the noises. Then when the doctor doesn't say a word - although she knows he's there - things go off track really fast. She realizes she got knocked over the head and she is in danger here. When she's later found, and recovered, she tells the story of what happened. The mind boggling thing here is that no one believes her story. Everyone thinks it's because she got knocked in the head by some branch (she was found out in the parking lot amidst some storm wreckage). Not her fiance, not her coworkers, not her family. People just think she hallucinated some crime. The key thing here is that the reason they believe this is that she wasn't physically harmed in any way.

Alex is a doctor who works in the hospital where she has been treated, making this all the harder for her to be doubted and questioned. Yet, while Alex is striving to be believed, more crimes happen. Two women die. And then things really start to fall apart for Alex because now the police are really suspicious.

There is so much going on in this thriller. To sound cliche, it will keep you in the edge of your seat. Alex is a strong, but vulnerable and likable character. I appreciated the fact that she didn't ever doubt herself, but continued fighting for what she knew happened to her. I felt so sorry for her - and outraged - while everyone was doubting her experience. I thought Patrick, her fiance, was kind of a flat character and I really despised him for thinking this was in her head. In fact that was so unbelievably annoying that everyone thought this about the main character.

There are some plot holes, one I thought was kind of big, but it didn't sidetrack me too much (I don't want to give it away as it pertains to a key factor of the plot). Also if medical thrillers like this make you feel squeamish, I don't think you have to worry. I'm not into the blood guts and gore, I only had to skim past a couple of scenes that were a bit too vivid for my taste. Most of this takes place in a hospital, and I know some people really don't like hospitals, so if that's you, you may want to pass.

Liz Lawler's Don't Wake Up, due to be released in October 2017, is a fast-paced psychological thriller. In Don't Wake Up, Alex Taylor is an accomplished and well-respected doctor in a Bath A&E department. One evening as she is leaving work she is knocked unconscious. When she wakes up she finds herself strapped to an operating table in one of the surgical theaters. She can not see the man standing over her but knows he is not a doctor. He makes horrific threats of violence before anesthetizing her. When she reawakens, she is surrounded by her coworkers and neither they nor the police believe her story. The police make only a nominal effort to investigate before concluding it didn't really happen. In the next few weeks, several other women are killed and Alex repeatedly attempts to draw the attention of the investigating officers to those cases to connect them back to her own without success. Meanwhile, her coworkers and boyfriend sympathetically insist that she must have been hallucinating, that it is just stress taking its toll. Eventually, Alex begins to doubt herself as her life spins more and more out of control, the victims continue to stack up around her and her attacker's gaslighting and threats intensify.

Don't Wake Up was a good read and I enjoyed the story. However, I did feel it became a bit too implausible at times that no one believed Alex. I also found myself wondering if a police department could refuse to investigate crimes to the extent that they did in this book. In some ways, it seemed a bit contrived just to fit the plot. I would recommend this book with the caveat that I'm not sure how realistic this aspect of the story is.

Good book. Suspenseful. The lead female character wakes up I. A situation that is crazy. No one believes her until she stumbles upon someone else that was in the same situation prior. The story takes off with weird things happening and the female lead tries to find out what is going on. Good read, plenty of twists. Thanks to NetGalley the author and the publisher for the advanced copy of this book in return for my honest review.

Diabolically clever and deliciously twisted, Lawler leads you down so many blind alleys that even after the murderer is revealed, it seems entirely possible that someone else might ‘really’ be guilty. I was flipping pages so fast I should have had blistered fingers. Don’t expect to have Don’t Wake Up all figured out before finally reaching The End.

A stunning debut novel.

This book was a definitely a psychological thriller. It kept me guessing to the very last page. It was an enjoyable read and I look forward to seeing where this series takes us!

On aurait tellement pu…

Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Where to start with this one? Well, the description really had me interested in this book and it didn't let me down.

I loved the storyline but I wasn't a fan of how some of it was written. Other than that it was a very suspenseful thriller.

It follows Alex Taylor after she's been found in the parking lot of the hospital she works in. She tries to convince everyone that she had been abducted and that the murders that are taking place around her are caused by the same person who took her.

This book will be published on May 18th, 2017 and I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a thriller.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Don't Wake Me Up by Liz Lawler is a gripping thriller that hooked me in right from the beginning. Dr Alex Taylor wakes up tied down to a hospital bed and is assaulted. Then she wakes up back in the hospital where she works and seemingly nothing happened to her. None of her friends, colleagues and partner believe anything happened to her. Alex begins spiraling when more creepy things start happening and she thinks that it is all connected to what happened to her. I can't say too much without giving away the story, but basically everyone in Alex's life begins to think she is having a mental break, even when the bodies start to fall.

Very intriguing, thrilling novel that keeps you guessing!

Solid suspense/ Thriller. The writing style takes some getting used to but other than that it was a fine book.

I hate giving bad reviews although this book started well it just couldn't keep me interested. It wasn't thrilling enough and I didn't really like the characters. This would be a good library read but I wouldn't recommend purchasing it.
