This book is not for the faint of hearts ! definitively a sick, twisted psychological thriller.
A page turner and a great story but do read it in one sitting because it will unsettle you and disturb you in many ways.

From the first pages, we meet Dr. Alex Taylor who wakes up strapped to an operating table, naked and has no recollection on how she got there.
There is a man in the operating room with her asking a simple question.
When she comes-to no one believes her story, it all feels like a terrifying dream until victims start to multiply around her.

The book is not a straight forward whodunnit and it maintains a very serious level of stress and surprises.
People are not who they present themselves to be. I enjoyed the thrill even though one could ask ‘how much need to happen to a woman before some one takes her seriously ?”. he detective could have been more thorough but all and all a good read.

Many thanks to Liz Lawer - Twenty7 for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

This did have a gripping first chapter. It got my attention, and it kept it. I wanted people to believe Alex. I couldn't believe how the police missed the obvious clue of the dress. I liked the "human" police officer as opposed to the dreadful female whose mind was so closed she should have been taken off the case. As more and more happened I was screaming at the book. I must say, until near the end I hadn't guessed the outcome. As was no doubt the intention, I suspected the wrong character for much of the book.Clever plot, and not far fetched as I've seen in some reviews. I was aware of reading with my hands at my mouth as the story progressed!

This was an interesting read. It was good, but not as scary as some reviews said. I'd definitely like to check out more by this author. She had a very good way with describing the surroundings of Alex.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Really creepy thriller!

Don’t Wake Up is the kind of book that keeps you up at night reading into the early hours and then plays on your mind as you try to work out what is going to happen next. Fast paced and gripping, I really enjoyed this book.

My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a digital review copy.

Don't Wake Up is one of those books that not only leaves you imagining (with horror) how you'd react in this situation, but makes you start to consider whether people would believe you, if you were in Alex's situation...? It's not a nice thought, but it makes for a great read!

I liked that, although there were parts of this novel which were quite typical of the genre, there were parts that I was not expecting along the way. Don't Wake Up kept me guessing, and though some characters felt a little over-exaggerated, I really liked how author Liz Lawler created characters which, for the most part, were convincing. Also, I warmed to main protagonist Alex despite the apparent unreliability of that very same character - without giving anything major away, at some points you're not always sure if Alex is telling the truth because everyone around her seems so sure she's making it up...

The pacing of this novel quite fast, though there's enough time to build on the characters and for the reader to develop their own opinions of Alex's friends and colleagues. There are some quite dark parts, and the last 30% or so really ramps up the tension.

Overall, an engrossing, tense read which kept me guessing - recommended!

I was gripped by this book right from the outset and couldn't wait to get back into it. The story was well told and believable and it was very original. You could not predict the ending, which is always a big of a let down with other similar books. Well recommended.

I had relatively high hopes for this one and whilst I did finish I thought it was so melodramatic and the main character basically so unlikable that I basically nearly didn't want her to be saved.

Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to have read this brilliant thriller. Our main character, a doctor Alex Taylor wakes up and realizes my biggest fear - waking up during a procedure. Or is it a procedure. Is she imagining it. This set the roller coaster thrill of the book and it does not let go until the last word.
Recommended!!!

Big thanks to Netgalley and Bonnier Zaffre for the advanced ebook copy in exchange for my honest review.

Reading the brief synopsis online instantly drew me to this book. DON'T WAKE UP by Liz Lawler is definitely a medical thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Once I started I had to keep going to find out what happened to Alex.

Dr. Alex Taylor wakes up and finds herself strapped to an operating table. She has no memory as to how she got there or why she would be in an operating room. There is a man standing over her - he isn't a doctor and he is asking her one impossible question. When she awakens next she is in the hospital with her colleagues. They found her knocked out in the parking lot - completely unharmed.
No one, not her colleagues, friends, or family, will believe her story. They are insistent that it's all in her head to the point where she begins to wonder if she's losing her mind.

Soon, a pregnant nurse goes missing. She is later found and when she arrives at the hospital, she is no longer pregnant, but her story stick with Alex. She knows that this woman has to be related to what happened to her - is it the same man that tormented her? More bodies are turning up, and all of them have a connection to Alex. Is this a coincidence or Alex the one killing?

This was a fantastic debut! It kept me guessing and turning the pages. Things got nuts towards the end of the novel. This had all the elements we've come to love and expect in the thriller genre - I've read a few slower burns lately, so this is just what I needed to jump back into the thrillers! This definitely gives you that unsettling and discomfort at the beginning of the novel. What happened to her? Who is this guy? Why does no one believe her? So many questions to start out and they slowly get answered as you go.

Overall, if you want a great psychological and medical thriller from a debut author, then you need to pick up DON'T WAKE UP by Liz Lawler. This was a fast read and you'll want to make sure you sit down with plenty of time, because you won't want to stop.

I give this one 4.5/5 stars!

This is a fast paced page turner that kept me guessing from the beginning. I’d never have worked out the solution. It’s based in a medical setting and there are so many possible candidates who could be responsible for the ongoing attacks that you’re racing ahead to find out what’s going to happen next. I struggled to put this one down. I’d definitely recommend it and would read another by this author.

Alex Taylor is a doctor, working in a busy Casualty department, so imagine her horror when she woke up tied to an operating table, with a "surgeon" threatening to perform horrific procedures on her. When she wakes up again, she goes to hospital, insisting she's been raped, but it appears that she is unharmed, with no signs of sexual assault, and no one believes her horrifying story.

Gradually, her colleagues step away from her, as does her family and her partner. Convinced she is going mad, Alex struggles to carry on with daily life, and then she encounters someone in the Casualty department who experienced a similar situation.

This was an amazing thriller, which was extremely compulsive, I just didn't want to put it down. It sent chills down my spine, and even when I thought I'd figured it out, I was wrong!!!!

I was given a free copy of this book in return for an honest and open review.

WOW! I have just finished this book and I loved it. The opening of the book was chilling, I tried to imagine what it would feel like. Horrifying comes to mind.
Alex Taylor believes she has been assualted while under an anaesthetic, her colleagues and boyfriend have mixed feelings about it. Alex sets out to prove that it did occur and that she has been framed for situations that happened after. Even the police are sceptical. When the perpetrator was revealed it left me shocked but it made sense when I thought back and more of the story was revealed.
I would highly recommend this book.

Fast paged and full of action this medical thriller pulls you in and never let's you go. Poor Dr. Taylor, no one will believe her after a tragic incident. But how much is she bringing on herself? Was she abducted? Is she going crazy? You have to read this to find out.

5 stars for the first about 80% of the book, then the 'reveal' was just a little too already been done for my liking. But for most of the book I just couldn't stop reading, Needing to know what was really happening and why! Very well written and the pacing was spot on! I still enjoyed the book as a whole, I just thought the end could have been a bit more intriguing.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.

I am afraid this book never really took off for me. The synopsis grabbed me but the execution of the story failed miserably. I thought it was a slow burn, but just as I thought I'd started to get into the plot, everything started becoming very far-fetched and silly.

This is a fast-paced thriller which gathers momentum as it progresses. It was a scary thought, wondering how Alex felt about the whole situation and not being believed. Great read.

I found the opening of this book to be one of the creepiest I've ever read! A shiver ran down my spine as I devoured the pages to find out what was really happening.

A brilliant start, indeed, and a well written book, but I did find it a wee bit predictable. I clocked the killer pretty early on and felt more certain with each causality. That's the one reason I haven't rated Don't Wake Up higher. I much prefer to be caught unaware and surprised by the end. No matter, this is a worthwhile read that will keep you glued and guessing.

2.5 Stars

Alex Taylor wakes up tied to an operation table, with a mysterious doctor threatening to do unthinkable atrocities to her. When she wakes up next, she is unharmed and surrounded by persons she knows, taking care of her. The only problem was they did not believe what just happened to her. And then her life starts to fall apart.

When i read the summary of the plot i thought it was interesting and could make a really good story. Unfortunately, i was disappointed by this book.
I did not really enjoy how the story unraveled not the characters. The writing was good, but i felt there were many unecessary scenes and information.
I guess the problem for me was that i did not like the majority of the main characters, i did not feel any connection or concern about them.
The twist halfway was interesting, hence the 2.5 stars, but not enough to get me back to the story.

I feel bad writing a negative review but that's the way it is.
